PROJECT GOALS
The aim of the project is to improve the detection of neoplastic diseases of the digestive system and undertaking immediate treatment
The project is a response to the diagnosis of the situation and the needs of the inhabitants of the area
The project involves the implementation of screening for cancers of the digestive system in the districts of Zawiercie and Myszków
Gastrointestinal prevention programs are aimed at people aged 40 years and above 40 years of age, and so to all people at risk.
SCOPE OF THE PROJECT INCLUDES
screening, including the purchase of highly specialized equipment for testing
health education and training of medical personnel
purchase of laparoscopic equipment, ultrasound scanner, endoscopic video set, surgical tables to endoscopy and a special test site
MEDICAL TRAININGS WILL INCLUDE
new methods for the detection and diagnosis of cancer of the digestive system. In this case, the trainings for doctors will include operating of duodenoscope and testing the bile and pancreatic ducts
abdominal ultrasonography for doctors
instruments and assisting endoscopic procedures performed on biliary and pancreatic ducts for nurses

THE ONCOLOGY SCREENING PROGRAM OF CANCER OF THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM INCLUDE EXAMINATIONS AIMED
AT DETECTION OF THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF CANCER
C15. Malignant neoplasm of the esophagus;C16. Malignant neoplasm of stomach;C17. Malignant neoplasm of small intestine;C18. Malignant neoplasm of the colon;C19. Malignant neoplasm of bending distal segment - rectal;C20. Malignant neoplasm of rectum;C21. Malignant neoplasm of rectum and anal canal;C22. Malignant neoplasm of liver and intrahepatic bile ducts;C23. Malignant neoplasm of the gallbladder;C24. Malignant neoplasm of other and not specific parts of the bile ducts;C25. Malignant neoplasm of the pancreas;C45. Mesothelioma;C46. Kaposi’s sarcoma.
REASONS FOR THE PROJECT gastrointestinal tract is one of the main locations of malignant cancers;
cancers of the digestive system are extremely dangerous - 5-year survival when the disease is detected at an advanced stage is kept below 5%;
detection of neoplastic diseases of the digestive system in the early stages of the disease is very low;
a significant increase in the incidence of cancer of the digestive system - particularly the large intestine in recent years forecasts of the National Cancer Registry show that the incidence of this type of cancer in the coming years will continue to increase;
gastrointestinal cancer mainly affects people over 40 years of age, in the face of a rapidly aging population can claim that the problem of cancer in this location will continue to grow;

HEALTH EDUCATIONOngoing project also provides health education and health promotion connected with preventive examinations and a healthy lifestyle. Meetings with potential participants in the project and the project participants and their families will be held in all municipalities of Zawiercie and Myszków districts. The meetings will consist of two parts - a meeting with the oncologist and nutritionist, aimed at enhancing knowledge of the early signs of cancer, risk factors and proceeding in case of the suspicion of the disease and the role of physical activity and a proper diet in reducing the risk of cancer. Project will last from the signing the agreement till April 2016.

PREVENTION
DISEASE PREVENTION BY ITS EARLY DETECTION AND TREATMENT
PRIMARYPRIMARY
SECONDARYPRIMARY TERTIARY
Primary prevention of malignant tumors is based on the identification of risk
factors, eliminating or reducing exposure to them, which should result in a
decrease in the incidence of cancer
THE RISK FACTORS FOR CANCERS THAT MAY BE REDUCED:
smoking
excessive alcohol consumption
bad eating habits / excessive consumption of alcohol, animal fats, salt, red processed meat
low physical activity
overweight and obesity
environmental and occupational carcinogens
biological carcinogens
RISK FACTORS
Obesity and overweight combined with low physical activity has a significant
impact on the onset of cancer
Analysis of the body mass indexes presented in the report “Current Status of the Anti-Cancer activities
in Poland” developed by the Polish Society of Oncology published in May 2014
PRIMARY PREVENTION
Principles of rational nutrition. The ability to implement a rational nutrition pyramid
Patient estimating the possibility of overweight / obesity
Dietary factors that increase and reduce the risk of cancer
The role of physical activity in preventing the formation of malignant tumors
SECONDARY PREVENTION
The importance of nutrition during cancer - general dietary recommendations
Diet after surgery
The diet in the period of chemotherapy and radiotherapy
Principles of diet after recovering cancer patients
Changing eating habits,increasing physical activity,
participation in screening, taking action to reduce exposure to risk factors increase the
effectiveness of cancer prevention anddetection at an early stage
„We need to think about the big things, do small, not afraid of failure and
quickly take action”
