Note from Brad Hine: The main caveat I would like to add is that we are not suggesting that we should stop selecting animals for resistance to specific diseases which are of particular economic importance to industry but rather just to say that there is a potential risk that selecting for resistance to one disease could inadvertently increase susceptibility to another. By selecting for specific diseases in conjunction with selecting for general immune responsiveness we aim to reduce that risk. Hope that sounds okay.
