Prayer for Vocations
Loving and Generous God, it is You who call us by name and ask us to follow You. Help us to grow in the Love and Service
of our Church as we experience it today.
Give us the energy and courage of Your Spirit to shape its future.
Grant us faith-filled leaders who will embrace Christ's Mission of love and justice.
Bless St. James Church by raising up dedicated and generous leaders from our families and friends who will serve Your people
as Sisters, Priests, Brothers, Deacons and Lay Ministers.
Inspire us to know You better and open our hearts to hear Your call.
We ask this through our Lord. Amen.

THE YEAR OF FAITH THE CREED
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God...
How many times we are made aware of this amazing fact in the Gospels and in the
writings of the Apostles! Perhaps the most famous, and easily the most recognizable for all
is the verse found in the Gospel of John: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son..." (John 3:16). This verse is now so famous that it is all around us! Just try
watching professional sports on television and odds are that you will see at least one sign
with "John 3:16" somewhere in the audience.
At the Annunciation when the Angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she was to become the mother of our
Lord by the power of the Holy Spirit she was also told that he was to be named Jesus. Yet again at the baptism of
Jesus by John the Baptist the voice of God was heard announcing that "This is my beloved son..." and again at the
Transfiguration the voice of God repeats the fact that Jesus is His son.
Over and over in the Gospels we hear Jesus refer to God as "Father" and even at the crucifixion He calls
"Abba... Father." Throughout the writings of the Apostles, especially those of St. Paul the reference to the only Son
of God is a recurring theme. These are more than stories in the Bible, they are true facts. These are given to us from
both those who were actually present as well as those who received them as the result of the witness given to them.
It is for us a matter of FAITH, that is, we believe though we have not physically seen. Like the Apostle
Thomas we may sometimes have a doubt, but when we experience the presence of our Lord in our lives we
doubt no more. To be able to say along with Thomas "My Lord and my God" is a statement of our faith in the Lord
Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God!
Should I be tested for PAD?
Do you have diabetes, suffer leg cramps, history of
smoking? Peripheral Artery Disease or PAD is a com-
mon condition affecting approximately 8-12 million
Americans. PAD narrows the arteries in the legs with
buildup of cholesterol and plaque which decreases
blood flow to the legs and feet. Guadalupe Regional
Medical Center is offering free ABI screenings.
Appointments are required, so please call 401-7745.
There are also information sheets in the parish office.

Religious Education and Adult Formation
Year of Faith Small Group Discussions Here’s an opportunity for adults to join a small group discussion in Advent. We’ll be using a booklet called “Catholics Continuing the Journey.” Sessions are scheduled for Thursday evenings in Advent: Dec. 6, 13 and 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. No cost. Please call Sr. Cal to sign up for the group. Holy Buckets St. James Religious Education and Youth Ministry will be participating in a Holy Buckets fundraising campaign in Advent. We are working with the Mission Awareness Office of the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Children in pre-K through 5
th grades, as well as EDGE students in
6th through 8
th grades and LifeTeen students in high
school will be collecting “bucks” (dollars) and change for the Missionary Childhood Association. We hope this project keeps us mindful of our responsibility to help children in need all over the world. Christmas Wrapping Project EDGE students (6
th, 7
th, and 8
th grades) will be given the
opportunity to buy a gift for a resident of Guadalupe Valley Nursing Center. Gifts do not need to be expensive. We want to give students a chance to BE CHURCH. This is one way to meet needs in our local community. Please discuss with your family whether or not your EDGE student can participate. We will have information about the residents’ interests, clothing sizes and gender at our class on Nov. 28. Students need to wrap the gift and bring it to our EDGE session on Dec. 5. 1st Reconciliation (Confession) First Reconciliation for Religious Education and St. James School children is Saturday, Dec. 1. If your child is celebrating Reconciliation (Confession) and Eucharist (Communion) for the first time, the religious education office needs his or her Baptism certificate now. Even if your child was baptized at St. James Church, please provide a copy of the certificate to the DRE.
