    2010 RECORDS - - Iowa is 7-4 overall and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Min-nesota is 2-9 in all games and 1-6 in the league. Iowa beat EasternIllinois (37-7), Iowa State (35-7), Ball State (45-0), Penn State (24-3), Michigan (38-28), Michigan State (37-6) and Indiana (18-13)and lost at Arizona (34-27), to Wisconsin (31-30), at Northwestern(21-17) and to Ohio State (20-17).

    Minnesota posted wins at Middle Tennessee State and at Illi-nois and losses to South Dakota, Southern Cal, Northern Illinois,Northwestern, Wisconsin, Purdue, Penn State, Ohio State andMichigan State.

    THE SERIES - - This is the 104th game in the series and Minnesotaleads 59-42-2. Iowa has won the last three and eight of the lastnine in the series. That includes last years 12-0 win in Iowa City.Iowa won the last meeng in Minneapolis (55-0) in 2008. Minne-sotas last win in the series (34-24) came in 2006 at Minneapolis.The Gophers lead the series in games played at Minneapolis bya 36-15-1 margin.

    COACHING RECORDS - - Kirk Ferentz is in his 15th year as a

    college head coach and his 12th year as Iowas head coach. Hiscareer record is 100-80 and he is 88-59 at Iowa. He is 35-17 innon-conference games at Iowa. JeffHorton was named interimhead coach on Oct. 17th. He began the year as Minnesotas co-offensive coordinator. The Gophers are 1-3 under Horton. Hortonis in his first year at Minnesota. He has experience in the NFL andhas been a head coach at UNLV (1994-98) and Nevada (1993). Hehas a career record of 21-51. Minnesota was 1-6 this year underprevious head coach Tim Brewster.

    IN THE RANKINGSIowa is 24th in the Associated Press rankings and the USA Today coaches poll

    and Michigan State is 11/10. Penn State, Michigan and Northwestern are receivingvotes. Non-conference opponent Arizona is ranked 20/20.

    IOWA IN THE BCS RANKINGSIowa is 24th in the BCS rankings. Iowa was ranked in each of the eight BCS

    rankings in 2009, including an all-time high of fourth on Oct. 26 and Nov. 2. Iowaended last season ranked 10th in the Dec. 6 final poll.

    Iowa was also ranked in the BCS top 25 seven weeks in 2004 and eight weeks inboth 2002 and 2003. Iowa was ranked once during the 2006 season. Prior to thiseason, Iowa appeared in the BCS top 25 on 32 occasions.

    The BCS rankings are a combination of the Harris Interactive poll, the USA Todaycoaches poll and computer rankings. Iowa is 23rd in the computer rankings,24thin the coaches poll and 24th in the Harris poll.

    FLOYD OF ROSEDALEAs a result of a bet between the governors of the two states in 1935, possession

    of Floyd of Rosedale is at stake Saturday. The bronze pig traveling trophy is currently in the hands of the Hawkeyes as a result of their 12-0 triumph in KinnickStadium last season. Minnesota holds a 39-34-2 advantage in the series with Floydof Rosedale on the line. Iowa has won eight of the last nine meetings.

    IOWA VS. RANKED OPPONENTSWith the 37-6 win over fifth-ranked Michigan State (10/30/10), Iowa has recorded

    a victory over a top-five ranked team in each of the last three seasons. Iowa defeatedfourth-ranked Penn State (21-10) on the road in 2009 and defeated the third-rankedNittany Lions (24-23) in Kinnick Stadium in 2008.

    Iowa has defeated three ranked teams this season, including Penn State (#20)Michigan (#24) and Michigan State (#5). Three of Iowas losses have been at the

    hands of ranked teams (#18 Arizona, #10 Wisconsin, #7 Ohio State) and North-western moved into the rankings after defeating Iowa. The three wins over rankedteams are the most for Iowa since posting a 3-1 record vs. ranked opponents in 2004

    Iowa has played six ranked teams this season, matching the most the Hawkeyeshave faced in a single season under coach Kirk Ferentz. Iowa also played sixranked teams in 1999 and 2003. Three of the six ranked opponents were rankedin the top 10. Iowa lost to No. 10 Wisconsin (31-30), defeated No. 5 MichiganState (37-6) and lost to No. 7 Ohio State (20-17), all in Kinnick Stadium. Lasseason, Iowa defeated No. 4 Penn State and No. 9 Georgia Tech, while losing aNo. 8 Ohio State in overtime.

    FERENTZ ON BOBBY DODD WATCH LISTIowa Coach Kirk Ferentz is one of seven coaches on the official Watch List for

    the 2010 Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award.Ferentz is in his 12th year with the Hawkeyes and has guided the 2010 squad toa 7-4 record and is 24th in this weeks rankings. He has a career record of 100-80

    Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year three times (2002, 04, 09)and was National Coach of the Year in 2002.

    The Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Award was first given in 1976 when it wentto Georgias Vince Dooley. Iowas head coach has never won the award.

    THREE HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT HONORS

    Three members of the Iowa football program were named to the ESPN AcademicAll-District Sevenfirst team. Those players are senior OL Julian Vandervelde, seniorLB Jeff Tarpinian and junior LB Tyler Nielsen. Each of the three Hawkeye playersnow have their name on the national ballot for ESPN Academic All-America honors

    Weekly Football Press ConferenceIowa Head Coach Kirk Ferentz holds his weekly press

    conferences every Tuesday throughout the season.

    The press conferences are held in the auditorium of

    the Hayden Fry Football Complex. Coach Ferentz ad-

    dresses the media at 12:30 p.m. and requested players

    will be available following the press conference. In case

    of poor weather, player interviews will be conducted

    inside the bubble.

    Media need to submit their Tuesday player interview

    requests to Phil Haddy, via e-mail, by 10:30 a.m. CT

    each Sunday. True freshmen are not available for

    interviews.

    Media can access video highlights of Ferentzs weekly

    press conference, plus player clips and highlights via

    satellite. The time is from 3:30 to 3:45 p.m. (CT). The

    satellite feed is available on AMC 3, Transponder 3,C-Band Analog.

    All press conferences can be viewed on the official

    world wide web site of the Iowa Athletic Department at

    hawkeyesports.com (subscription service). Each press

    conference is archived.

    Weekly TeleconferenceThe Big Ten coaches teleconferences are held

    HAWKEYES ON SEMIFINAL LISTSSenior TE Allen Reisner, senior P Ryan Donahue and junior DB Tyler Sash are

    also on reduced lists for national honors at their respective positions.Reisner was one of eight semifinal candidates for the 2010 John Mackey Award

    (He is not one of the three finalists). The award goes annually to the nations bescollegiate tight end. Reisner has started every game this year. He has 37 receptionsfor 385 yards (10.4 average) and two touchdowns, including six receptions for66 yards at Northwestern. Former Iowa tight end Dallas Clark won the MackeyAward in 2002.

    Sash is one of 10 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, which goes annually tothe top collegiate defensive back. He currently ranks fifth in career interception(13). Sash is the Iowa record holder and ranks fourth all-time in Big Ten historywith 392 interception yards. He currently ranks third in tackles with 66 stops in11 games.

    Donahue is a Ray Guy Award semifinalist for the second time in his career, join-ing nine other punters on the list. Donahue holds a 44.3 yard average on 47 puntswhile opponents have averaged just 4.2 yards on 18 returns. He has booted fiveof the 14 longest punts in school history, while averaging over 40 yards per punin each of his four seasons. He had a 73-yard punt at Northwestern, which ties a10th longest in school history.

    FERENTZ NAMED COACH OF THE YEARIowa Coach Kirk Ferentz was named the Dave McClain Big Ten Conference

    Coach of the Year for the third time in 2009. Ferentz was a finalist for the LibertyMutual national Coach of the Year award and was one of 15 semi-finalists for theGeorge Munger Award, presented by the Maxwell Football Club to the CollegeCoach of the Year. The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) namedFerentz its 2009 Region Three Coach of the Year.

    Ferentz was also the league Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2004. He was theAssociated Press and Walter Camp National Coach of the Year in 2002.

    Ferentz has led 10 straight Iowa teams to bowl eligibility and the Hawkeyes havefinished in the Big Tens first division eight of the past nine seasons.

    COACHING RECOGNITION

    Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz has been named Big Ten Coach of the Year three times(2002, 2004 & 2009) and he was named National Coach of the Year in 2002Ferentz joins Michigans Bo Schembechler (four) and Iowas Hayden Fry (three)and Penn States Joe Paterno (three) as the only coaches to be honored in morethan two seasons.

    MINNESOTA COACH JEFF HORTONCo-offensive coordinator Jeff Horton was named Minnesotas interim head coach

    effective Oct. 17, for the remainder of the 2010 season. Minnesota is 1-3 underHortons direction.

    Horton is in his first season at Minnesota and is the only member of the Gophercoaching staff with head coaching experience. Horton joined the Minnesota stafafter spending four seasons coaching in the National Football League. He coached

    with the Detroit Lions (2009) and St. Louis Rams (2006-08).Prior to his stint in the NFL, Horton spent 22 years in collegiate football, includingsix years as a head coach. He was the head coach at Nevada (1993) and NevadaLas Vegas (1994-98). He was the quarterbacks coach at Wisconsin from 1999-2005. He was the wide receiver coach at Nevada in 1992. He served as assistanhead coach at UNLV from 1990-91 and was an assistant at Nevada from 1985-89His first collegiate coaching job was as a graduate assistant at Minnesota in 1984

    Horton took over after Tim Brewster was relieved of his duties as Minnesotashead coach. Brewster took over at Minnesota in January, 2007. He posted a 15-30record with the Gophers, including a 6-21 Big Ten record.

    Freshman Mike Meyer was named Big Ten ConferenceSpecial Teams Player of the Week after connecting on 4-5field goal attempts in Iowas 18-13 win at Indiana. Heconnected from 23, 27, 27 and 42 yards in the win. The42-yard kick is the longest of his career. He shared the

    national honor of Kickoff Performer of the Week whenall four of his kicks were touchbacks at NorthwesternHe earned honorable mention recognition for his play inIowas 35-7 win over Iowa State, averaging 68.3 yards onsix kicks, with three touchbacks.

    Senior punter Ryan Donahue was named national Punterof the Week by the College Football Performance Awardsafter averaging 60.5 yards on two punts vs. WisconsinHe earned honorable mention recognition after averaging42.9 yards on seven punts at Northwestern.

    Junior DB Shaun Prater was named Big Ten DefensivePlayer of the Week following Iowas 37-6 win over fifthranked Michigan State. Prater collected a career-high 10

    tackles and had an interception and 42 yard return vs. theSpartans. Iowa held MSU to 31 net rushing yards and onetouchdown. The Big Ten honor is the first for Prater.

    Senior QB Ricky Stanzi was named Big Ten OffensivePlayer of the Week following Iowas 38-28 win at Michi-gan. Stanzi completed 17-24 passes for 248 yards andthree touchdowns, with no interceptions.

    Senior DE Adrian Clayborn was named Big Ten DefensivePlayer of the Week following Iowas 24-3 win over PennState Oct. 2. Clayborn collected 10 tackles in the winincluding a quarterback sack for minus 15 yards and threetackles for loss. Iowa held Penn State to 54 net rushingyards and just three points. The Big Ten honor is the thirdfor Clayborn.     Senior RB Paki OMeara was named Big Ten ConferenceSpecial Teams Player of the Week for his play in Iowas37-7 win over Eastern Illinois. OMeara blocked anEastern Illinois punt in the first period and returned theblock for a 42-yard touchdown. His score gave Iowa a21-0 advantage.     Kirk Ferentz (pronounced FAIR-rintz,rhymes with parents) is in his 12thseason as head football coach at theUniversity of Iowa. His latest contract

    extension runs through the 2020 season.Ferentz was named the 2009 Dave Mc-

    Clain Big Ten Conference Coach of theYear. He was one of 15 semi-finalistsfor the 2009 George Munger Award,presented by the Maxwell Football Clubto the College Coach of the Year. Hewas the 2009 AFCA Region Three Coach of the Year and wasone of 10 finalists for the Liberty Mutual national Coach ofthe Year. He is one of seven candidates for the 2010 BobbyDodd Coach of the Year Award.

    Ferentz was honored as the 2002 Associated Press and WalterCamp National Coach of the Year and was the AFCA Regional

    Coach of the Year that season, as well. He was named BigTen Conference Coach of the Year in 2002, 2004 and 2009.Ferentz guided Iowa to Big Ten titles in 2002 and 2004.

    Iowa has made two BCS bowl appearances, including a 24-14 win in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl. Iowa has played in sixJanuary bowl games and has four January bowl victories (2004Outback Bowl, 2005 Capital One Bowl, 2009 Outback Bowland 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl). Iowa has posted an 84-39(.683) overall mark and a 50-28 (.642) Big Ten record the lastnine plus seasons. Ferentz has guided the Hawkeyes to eightfirst divisionfinishes, including a second-place finish in 2009.The Hawkeyes are bowl eligible for the 10th straight season.

    Ferentz, at Iowa, holds an overall record of 88-59 (.599) and

    a 53-42 (.565) mark in Big Ten games. In his 15th season as acollege head coach, he holds a career mark of 100-80 (.556).Fifty-five of Iowas 147 games under Ferentz have been

    decided by seven points or less (25-30) and 45 were playedagainst opponents who were ranked in the top 25 at the time(19-26).

    Ferentz joined the Iowa staff after serving as assistant headcoach and offensive line coach of the NFLs Baltimore Ravens.He was part of the Baltimore (Cleveland Browns prior to themove) staff for six years.

    Ferentz was named head coach of the Maine Bears in 1990and held that position for three years. Ferentz was a memberof Hayden Frys Iowa staff for nine years as offensive linecoach (1981-89). He coordinated Iowas running game duringhis first coaching stint at Iowa. Iowa appeared in eight bowlgames during the time Ferentz was an Iowa assistant.

    Ferentz was born in Royal Oak, MI, and attended high schoolin Pittsburgh, PA. Kirk earned his bachelors degree in EnglishEducation from the University of Connecticut in 1978, wherehe was a football captain. Kirk received the DistinguishedAlumnus Award from the Neag School of Education at theUniversity of Connecticut in May, 2009. He was inducted intothe Upper St. Clair High School Hall of Fame in September,2002 and the Western Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hallof Fame in May, 2003.

    Sophomore RB Adam Robinson earned honorable mention recognition from theCollege Football Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over IowaState. Robinson rushed for a career-best 156 yards on 14 carries and scoredon a 39-yard run. Robinson also had a 75-yard run to set up another Hawkeye

    touchdown and surpassed 1,000 career rushing yards. Senior TE Allen Reisner earned honorable mention recognition from the College

    Football Performance Award for his play in Iowas 35-7 win over Iowa Stateand the 21-17 loss at Northwestern. Reisner had three receptions for 66 yardsand a touchdown vs. Iowa State. His two-yard scoring reception gave Iowa a21-0 advantage in the second period and his 55-yard catch, the longest of hiscareer, led to Iowas final score. He added 66 receiving yards on six receptionsat Northwestern.

    Sophomore DB Micah Hyde earned honorable mention recognition from theCollege Football Performance Awards for his defensive backfield play in Iowas37-6 win over fifth-ranked Michigan State. Hyde hadfive tackles and a 66-yardreturn for a touchdown.

    Junior TE Brad Herman earned honorable mention recognition from the CollegeFootball Performance Award for his play in Iowas 37-6 win over fifth-rankedMichigan State. Herman had three receptions for 80 yards, matching his careerhigh in catches and reaching a career-best in receiving yards.

    Iowa had eight players named Big Ten Players of the Week in 2009 (four ondefense, one offense and three special team winners).

    IOWA TOUGH ON DEFENSEIowa ranks sixth nationally in rushing defense (93.3) and scoring defense (15.5)

    14th in total defense (311.2) and 20th in pass efficiency defense (113.06). The Iowadefense was the last unit in the nation to allow a rushing touchdown this season,that coming in Iowas sixth game.

    The Hawkeyes are second in the nation in turnover margin (+1.27) and tied forseventh with 17 pass interceptions.

    POSITIVE TURNOVER RATIOIowa is first in the Big Ten and second nationally with a plus 1.27 turnover ratio

    Iowa has been guilty of just seven turnovers in 11 games, including just threeturnovers in seven Big Ten games. The seven turnovers tie as the fewest in thnation (Oregon State).

    Iowas opponents have had 113 possessions, and just four have started in Iowaterritory. Arizona had two possessions start in Iowa territory and Iowa State andNorthwestern started one possession on Iowas end of the field.

    INJURY SETBACKSIowa sophomore running back Jewel Hampton and junior linebacker Bruce Davi

    suffered season-ending knee injuries during Iowas 34-27 loss at Arizona. Bothhave had surgery to repair the damage. Hampton rushed 91 times for 463 yardand seven touchdowns as a freshman in 2008 before missing 2009 due to injuryHe rushed 20 times for 84 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State and had afour-yard touchdown reception at Arizona prior to his season-ending injury.

    In addition, LB Jeff Tarpinian missed Iowas opening game and games vs

    Michigan and Wisconsin before returning to limited action vs. Michigan Stateand Indiana. He did not start vs. Penn State and was limited to just a few playon defense. Tarpinian led Iowa in tackles through five games and returned to thestarting line-up at Northwestern before missing the Ohio State game. Senior FBBrett Morse did not play at Michigan, ending his starting streak at 18 consecutivstarts, but returned vs. Wisconsin.

    RB Adam Robinson, Iowas leading rusher, and OL Adam Gettis, did not play aIndiana. Gettis also missed the Northwestern and Ohio State games.

    Redshirt freshman OL Nolan MacMillan missed three games before returningto action at Northwestern, but he did not play against Ohio State. He started thfirst six games. Senior LB Jeremiha Hunter started the first seven games beforemissing the Michigan State contest. Hunter returned to start the last three contestand has 35 career starts.

    OLB Tyler Nielsen, who started the first eight games and ranked third in tackleswas injured vs. Michigan State and is out for the remainder of the season.

    Iowa defensive coordinator Norm Parker underwent a medical procedure in latSeptember and missed seven games. While he has not returned to the practice fieldParker attended Iowas home win over Michigan State but did not travel to IndianaHe did work from the press box for Iowas two most recent games.

    Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk SeriesThe Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series is in its seventh season in2010-11. The series is tied 3-3 in the in-state competi-tion against Iowa State that began in 2004-05. IowaState captured the Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series a year agoby a 16-11 margin.

    Iowa State holds a 6-5 advantage to date. Iowa de-feated ISU in football and womens soccer and lostin volleyball and mens and womens cross country.

    Last season, Iowa captured victories in football,womens soccer, wrestling, womens gymnastics andwomens tennis. The Cyclones recorded wins in vol-leyball, mens and womens cross country, mens andwomens basketball, womens swimming and diving,womens gymnastics and softball.

    Iowa captured the inaugural Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series(13-8) in 2004-05 and won again in 2006-07 (13-8)and 2008-09 (21-4). Iowa State won the competitionin 2005-06 (13-8) and 2007-08 (18-9) and 2009-10(16-11).

    The 12-event series awards two points (except foot-ball, which is worth three) to the winning school ineach head-to-head match-up between the two insti-tutions. Additionally, two points are awarded to aninstitution if the graduation rate of its student-athletesis greater than the national average as reported eachfall by the NCAA.

    A commemorative Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series Cup,

    which stands 31 inches tall and weighs 19 pounds, isdisplayed on the winning teams campus for an entireyear after a victory. Replica cups are also presentedas traveling trophies for individual victorious teamsin the head-to-head competition.

    nesota from 1972-76. Minnesota assistant Tim Cross was the defensive line coach at Syracuse when

    Iowa defeated the Orange in two overtimes in 2006. Minnesota assistant Kevin Cosgrove has also coached at Wisconsin and Illinois Minnesota assistant Ronnie Lee has also coached at Michigan and Wisconsin. Minnesota assistant Tim Davis coached offensive linemen at Southern Cal in

    THE SERIESSaturday will be the 104th meeting between Iowa and Minnesota. Minnesota

    holds a 59-42-2 advantage in the series that began with a 42-4 Gopher victory in1891. The Gophers won the first 12 games in the series before Iowa earned a 6-0win in 1918.

    Iowa has won the last three meetings and eight of the last nine. The Hawkeyes

    defeated Minnesota 55-0 in 2008 at Minneapolis in the last Minnesota game playedin the HHH Metrodome. Iowa won eight of 14 meetings played in the dome. TheHawkeyes won 12-0 last season in Kinnick Stadium and are visiting Minnesotasnew TCF Bank Stadium for the first time.

    Minnesota holds a 36-15-1 advantage in games played at Minneapolis, with themajority of those games played in Memorial Stadium, the previous on-campushome to Gopher football.     IOWA WON DEFENSIVE BATTLEIowa used a superior defensive effort to close the 2009 regular season with a12-0 win over Minnesota in Kinnick Stadium. Iowa retained Floyd of Rosedalefor the third straight season. Iowa posted shutouts in back-to-back games againsMinnesota for the first time since 1955 and 1956.

    The Hawkeyes started the game on offense anddrove 68 yards on their first possession, whichended with a 30-yard Daniel Murray field goal.Minnesota moved the ball on its third drive ofthe game, reaching the Iowa 12. After a one-yard loss on first down the Gophers fumbled thesnap on second down and Iowas Bruce Davisrecovered. Minnesota reached the Iowa 42 onits next drive, but LB Troy Johnson forced andrecovered a fumble to stop the threat.

    Senior OLB A.J. Edds intercepted his fourthpass of the season later in the period to set upIowas only touchdown drive. Taking over at the Minnesota 39, Iowa drove to theone, where Brandon Wegher scored his seventh rushing touchdown of the seasonThe PAT was blocked and Iowa led 9-0 at halftime.

    Minnesota had its best chance to score in the fourth period when a pass interference penalty gave the Gophers a first down at the Iowa two. Two rushing playsgained nothing before an incomplete pass on third down. On fourth down QBAdam Weber was sacked for a five-yard loss as the Hawkeyes preserved their onlyshutout of the season.

    LB Pat Angerer led the Iowa defense, recording 16 tackles. Johnson, startingin place of the injured Jeremiha Hunter, added 11 tackles. He had a QB sack togo with his fumble recovery and added a pass break-up. Johnson was named coDefensive Player of the Week in the Big Ten. DT Christian Ballard added ninetackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 QB sacks. Edds and Tyler Sash eachadded eight stops.

    RB Adam Robinson led Iowas ground game with 12 carries for 72 yards, but hewas injured in the second period and did not return. Vandenberg completed 11-24passes for 117 yards, with one interception. WR Derrell Johnson-Koulianos ledall receivers with seven catches for 63 yards.

    Murray made his only two field goal attempts and Ryan Donahue averaged 37.7yards on nine punts.

    OHIO STATE WINS AT IOWAOhio State scored the final 10 points of the game as the seventh-ranked Buckeyes

    rallied for a 20-17 win in Kinnick Stadium. The Hawkeyes took an early lead, driv-ing 87 yards on their second possession of the game. QB Ricky Stanzi completeda 19-yard scoring strike to WR Marvin McNutt, Jr. to give Iowa a 7-0 advantage

    Ohio State scored its only points of the firsthalf early in the second quarter, as Devin Barclaybooted an 18-yard field goal. The Buckeyes hadsecond and goal from the three and third and goalfrom the one, but could not get the touchdownand Iowa held a 7-3 halftime advantage. Iowa

    drove to the Buckeye 22 late in the second quar-ter, but a Mike Meyer field goal attempt from 40yards was wide left. OSUs final possession ofthe first half ended with an interception, as DBMicah Hyde made the theft in the Iowa end zone.

    Ohio State began the second half with a 77-yard touchdown drive, taking the lead on a five-yard pass from QB Terrelle Pryorto Reid Fragel. Iowa answered with a scoring drive of its own, tying the game a10 on a 31-yard Meyer field goal and thats the way the third quarter ended.

    Iowas defense led the way for Iowas final points, as Shaun Prater came up withan interception off a tipped pass and returned the ball to the OSU 27. FreshmanRB Marcus Coker broke loose for a 26-yard gain on first down and then scoredfrom the one on the next play to give Iowa a 17-10 advantage.

    Ohio State came back, cutting the deficit to 17-13 on a 48-yard field goal by Bar-clay with 7:38 remaining. Iowa failed to gain a first down on its next possessionand OSU got the ball back at its own 24 with 6:05 to play. From there the Buckeyesdrove to the winning score, as Dan Herron scored on a one-yard run with 1:47 toplay. The big play in the drive was a 14-yard scramble by Pryor with OSU facinga fourth and 10 at midfield.

    Iowa was unable to pick up a first down and the Buckeyes had the win. Iowa felto 3-3 on the season against ranked teams.

    Coker led Iowas ground game with 70 yards on just nine carries. His fourthquarter score marked his first career touchdown. Stanzi completed 20-31 passefor 195 yards, with McNutt, Jr. grabbing seven receptions for 92 yards.

    HAWKEYES RANK HIGH IN GRADUATION RATES

    The Iowa Hawkeyes were among the nations leaders in academic

    success for college football teams that competed in bowl games fol-

    lowing the 2008 season.

    Iowa ranked 16th in graduation rate for its football student-athletes,according to data collected by the NCAA among the 68 college foot-

    ball teams that participated in the 34 college football bowl games.

    Iowas graduation rate of 75% ranked third among teams that ap-

    peared in the 2008 final top 25 rankings.

    Iowas most current GSR of 79%, released in late October,

    ranks third among teams currently ranked in the BCS top 25

    and is 12 percentage points higher than the national average.

    A year ago, Iowas GSR of 74% ranked second among the 10

    teans that competed in 2010 BCS bowl games.

    The graduation rate for Iowas 2009 nationally ranked football

    program was 67 percent for the second consecutive year. The

    national average was 55 percent.

    THREE HAWKEYES EARN ACADEMIC HONORSIn 2008, three Iowa players were named to the ESPN The Magazine/

    CoSIDA District Seven first all-academic team.

    Under Kirk Ferentz in the last 11 years, 15 Hawkeye players have

    combined to earn academic all-America honors on 28 occasions.

    Four players, DL Aaron Kampman, OL Andy Lightfoot, LB Mike

    Klinkenborg and DB Adam Shada, were three-time honorees. Cur-

    rent senior Julian Vandervelde earned regional honors in each of the

    past two seasons.

    Iowa, in 2006, was the only Division I program in the nation tohave three players earn first team academic all-America recognition.In addition, Iowa players have been honored 130 times over the past10 seasons with academic all-Big Ten recognition.
