Session on Digestive Disease and Aging-Digestive Disease Week 1985

During Digestive Disease Week 1985 in New York, the Council on Aging will be arranging an evening session on "Aging and Digestive Disease." There will be a "keynote speaker" and approximately 6-8 abstracts will be chosen for presentation during the session, selected from abstracts submitted to Digestive Disease Week before their usual acceptance date. Submittors who believe their abstracts might be suitable for presentation at this session should write the word "Aging" at the top right-hand corner of their regular submitted abstracts. Such abstracts will be sent to committees that consider all submitted abstracts for

usual presentation. In addition, one copy will be submitted to a subcommittee of the Council on Aging, which will select abstracts for presentation during the special evening session. Thus, an abstract may be selected for the aging section even if it has also been selected for a regular session. During this program, there will be an opportunity to meet U.S. and foreign digestive disease researchers working in the field. Abstract forms are available from Charles B. Slack, Inc., 6900 Grove Road, Thorofare, New Jersey 08086.

ASGE Postgraduate Course, 1985, Timely Topics and Challenges in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy

The 1985 Postgraduate Course of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy will be held at the New York Hilton Hotel, New York City on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17,1985. A comprehensive overview of recent advances and clinical strategies related to common problems in gastroenterology and endoscopy will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on new knowledge that has a major impact on patient care.

The program will include five series of brief didactic presentations combined with panel discussions dealing with new scientific developments and controversial issues pertaining to peptic disease, endoscopic and radiographic assessment of small bowel disease, malignant precursors, surveillance and laser treatment, and therapeutic alternatives in UGI bleeding and extrahepatic obstruction. An innovative feature will be two "Beat the Professors" ses-

sions with lively dialogue among a panel of experts centered around interesting and challenging or controversial unknown cases. Also planned are an endoscopic photoquiz using a unique format and two smaller group breakout sessions to explore topics of special interest dealing with techniques and applications of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and clinical strategies including the role of endoscopy while allowing greater interaction between course faculty and participants.

Each course registrant will receive a comprehensive syllabus and a set of slides related to subjects covered in the course and suitable for teaching purposes. Course registration is limited to 2000.

Awarded funds may be used to supplement fellowship stipends, salary of technical staff, or for equipment, supplies, or travel that will further the recipient's research training. Each applicant must have a sponsor who directs a

gastroenterology and/or hepatology unit in the United States or Canada.
