So often have we forgotten to thank you for your goodness and acts of mercy. Teach us to look up to you each day, appreciative of rain and sunshine as you, in your wisdom, through any kind of weather do feed us all. Celebrating Our Catholic Faith THE ARCHANGELS - FEAST DAY - September 29

DID YOU KNOW: Sts. Raphael, Michael and Gabriel are the only Archangels mentioned by name in the Bible.

The name Michael signifies "Who is like to God?" and was the war cry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against satan and his followers. Holy Scripture describes St. Michael as "one of the chief princes," and leader of the forces of heaven in their triumph over the powers of hell. He has been especially honored and invoked

as patron and protector by the Church from the

time of the Apostles.

Raphael is one of seven Archan-gels who stand before the throne of the Lord. He was sent by God to help Tobit, Tobiah and Sarah. At the time, Tobit was blind and Tobiah's betrothed, Sarah, had seven bridegrooms perish on the night of their weddings. Raphael

accompanied Tobiah into Media disguised as a man named Azariah. Raphael helped him through his difficulties and taught him how to safely enter marriage with Sarah. Raphael's

name means "God heals."

The name Gabriel means "man of God," or "God has shown himself mighty." The angel announced to Daniel the prophecy of the seventy weeks. He was the angel who appeared

to Zachariah to announce the birth of St. John the Baptizer. Finally, he announced to Mary that she would bear a Son Who would be conceived of the Holy Spirit, Son of the Most

High, and Saviour of the world.

THE BEATITUDES

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called

children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you (falsely) because

of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were

before you.

SELF EXAMINATION

♦ Which beatitude do you feel most comfortable with? Which one do you feel is part of who you are? Which one do you think you reflect most in your life?

♦ Which beatitude makes you feel most uncomfortable? Which one is most puzzling? Which one do you feel called to develop more in your life? Why?

♦ How do you feel about the beatitudes that are already active in your life? How do you feel about those that are not yet as fully part of you as you would like them to be ?
