Front CoverMastheadThe masthead ‘Notion’ is in bold lettering of a typical font for a magazine/newspaper. It is easily recognizable and customers will be able to remember it.

Main ImageThe main image of Miley Cyrus is all on her and this connotes she wants all the attention on her. The shot also shows off her body implying that she is wanting people to recognise her.

DifferencesThere is no header or flash on this magazine cover which is different to the other magazines i have previously looked at. This maybe because the editors want to draw attention to the main image and feature of the magazine.

Left thirdEven though the magazine is kept quite simple and there is information on both sides of the cover the left third does dominate the rest of the cover. Miley is holding her hat up in the left third. This adds interest and attracts attention.

FooterThe cover doesn't actually have a footer but there is lines of information and sub-articles located at the bottom where a footer would be placed.

AnchorThe anchor quote on this front cover is ‘Being Miley’. The quote shows that she is different and does things her own way. She wants to stand out form the crowd and shock people. This connotation of the anchor is also supported by the main image as she is dressed quite daringly and confidently.

Contents PageMasthead/ContentsThe masthead on the contents page is very simple. The whole magazine is very minimal and this is a connecting element that runs throughout the magazine.

Contents HeadingsAgain the heading in the contents page are all very minimal, in a narrow font and neatly arranged in a 3 column structure.

Small ImagesThe small images are used to add interest to the page. they are also used give a hint as to what the sub-articles will be like, what theme/style they are.

DifferencesThere is no editorial or subscription box like the ones that we saw on the NME magazine contents page.

Double Page Spread

AeoCapThe large letter symbolises the beginning of a new article/main article. The only thing that tells you anything about the article is the small circle in the top left hand corner which says ‘notion features’.

Main ImageThe main image of Miley Cyrus shows her on a plain background in a striking pose.

ClothingThe clothing that Miley is wearing is skintight and she is revealing flesh showing that she wants to show off her body and that she is self confident and aware.

DifferenceOn this contents page there is no main title. The is no quote/strap-line or caption to the image. This connotes that with Miley what you see is what you get. You don’t have to look very far to find what she’s about as an artist, its pretty simple.

BackgroundThe background is all black. this allows the audience to focus entirely on the music artist, Miley Cyrus.

Facial ExpressionsMiley’s facial expressions are quite provocative and she looks as if she is trying to attract attention.

Notion Magazine has a massive crossover target, applying to many different audiences. The magazine covers a wide variety of artists on it’s covers and therefore gathers an audience that appreciates many different genres of music. this helps the magazine company as it widens its viewers and therefore they have a good chance of getting ore customers.

Notion’s primary target audience is 18 to 30- year olds. People who like to read and like a wide variety of music. e.g. pop, rock and roll, alternative, folk, and indie music.

Recent issues of the magazine have included: Paul McCartney - Rock and Roll music genre, Haim - Indie music genre and the Arctic Monkeys who are of a Alternative music genre.

The magazine also wants the audience to have a mixed lifestyle with different cultures, an interesting and original take on fashion and like to party.

November 25th - A Scottish edition of Notion appears in newsagents. The magazine (especially the Scottish version) will have a more regional focus as a change.

Some issues of the magazine have also featured CDs to accompany the main magazine. The CDs included a combination of new music and music that had featured in their magazines. There was also the latest fashion news and gadgets.

Exclusive interviews and song mixes were also on the CDs along with film and game trailers. Buyers could then acsess tracks via the media player program.
