Our Parish Vision Notre Dame of Mount Carmel is a Roman Catholic

community of faith called to be missionary disciples of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of bringing about the

Kingdom.

Our Parish Mission Formed by the Word, fed at the Table, and inspired by the Holy Spirit, we INVITE, WELCOME and GUIDE each

other into relationship with Christ, to GO OUT and MAKE missionary disciples.

B EARERS OF THE WORD

The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a summary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Family, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suffering will occur in fulfilling the mission of Christ, and that we are all called to be bearers of this Word whose birth we celebrate.

We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obedience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself.

Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today.

Prayer for Parish Renewal

God of love, source of mercy and compassion,

weave your dream for Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel into the fabric of our lives.

Give us a renewed commitment to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, our Savior,

to our families, our neighbors, and those on the margins of life.

Help us to be you, Jesus, in welcoming and caring for all.

Holy Spirit, surround us with your love, fill us with your grace,

and strengthen us for service in Jesus’ name.

Make us your missionary disciples!

We ask this through the intercession of Mary, our Mother and Patroness.

Amen.

COMING SOON!

With the Christ Child’s manger still warm, it seems incredible that we are already beginning our preparations for Lent, which begins early in 2018 (February 14!). As we have done for many years – and now to add spiritual fuel to our parish journey of missionary discipleship– we hope to offer a rich and diverse menu of faith enrichment (Follow Me) groups that will make the six weeks of Lent more meaningful for our parish family. Stay tuned! Our Follow Me roster will be published shortly after the New Year.

ROSES FOR LIFE DRIVE 2018

On the weekend of January 13 & 14, the Elizabeth Ann Seton Council Knights of Columbus will hold the annual Roses for Life drive at all the masses here at ND. This drive supports the programs at Birth Haven of Newton and Several Sources

Shelters, two organizations that provide transitional housing and all the appropriate support services including medical for young pregnant women. These young distressed pregnant mothers are made to feel wanted and loved and are supported in a loving caring environment. The little Rose appliqué we hand out symbolizes our support for Life in all of its stages and our carrying out of Jesus’ admonition to “take care of the little ones.” As you leave church on those days please help support the Knights of Columbus in this very worthy cause (please make any checks payable to K of C #6904). God Bless you for all of your prayers and generosity.

For The Journey...

ANTIOCH 73

Pope Francis urges young adults... “flood the places where you live with the joy and enthusiasm typical of your youthful age, to irrigate the world and history with the joy that comes from the Gospel, from

having met a person: Jesus, who has enthralled you and has drawn you to be with Him.”

How blessed we are to have wonderful young disciples in our midst, bringing so much joy, hope and Good News to our community and beyond!

Antioch 73 took place the weekend of December 15-17, hosting approximately 50 teens from various high schools! We are so grateful for God, Fr. Paddy and Fr. Jhon, our staff, adult and youth volunteers, our teens and their families and members of our parish who generously offered their time, talent, monetary donations, love and prayers, in support of our youth retreat. These gifts helped make the weekend the powerful faith journey it was, bringing some very special teens closer to Christ. Please visit our website at www.ndcarmel.com (click on the Events/News tab), or visit our Facebook page to browse through pictures shared from this wonderful youth experience!

Children’s Liturgy of the Word at our 9 AM Sunday Masses

Effective January, 2018, we will bring into our 9AM Mass Children’s Liturgy of the Word, an age-appropriate sharing of God’s Word for young children. No pre-registration is necessary.

All children are welcome and encouraged to attend!

HERE IS HOW THAT WILL TAKE PLACE: On the first Sunday of the month and during the homily, the children will be invited to the altar where the priest will share a special homily specifically for them. On the remaining Sundays of the month, just before the Liturgy of the Word begins for the assembly, the children will be invited to go with the weekly faith leaders from the church into Rm. 201 (next to the Chapel) where they will be led through prayers, songs and readings that are simplified for them. The children will return to the congregation during/after the Creed.

FAITH LEADERS ARE NEEDED! We have excellent resources that will help faith leaders guide our little ones during their special Children’s Liturgy time! But we can only make this happen through adults and teens answering the call to share their time and faith with the children. The more leaders we have, the more balanced the rotation schedule will be. Please consider participating as a Faith Leader. For more information, please contact Melissa Demianycz at [email protected] / 973-538-1358, ext. 100.
