THURSDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2017
Dear Families,
How quickly that bit of Long Service Leave went but it is nice
to be back into the routines of work.
My wife and I had a lovely time visiting one of our sons and
his wife who live in Fort Lauderdale. It has been a very busy week with some
wonderful community actions. Last weekend we had some excellent support
with:
Church Renovations- On Saturday morning about 10 dads gave an hour of
their time to relocate all of the pews. It was wonderful to note that there on
his hands and knees helping with the process was Fr Michael.
Vegie Garden- Following the pew moves we had about 20 parents devote the
greater part of their Saturday to the wonderful construction of our Vegie
Garden Planter boxes. This project was coordinated by Brendan Lambe, Zane
Humphrey, Andrew Calman and Danny Benoiton. Keep an eye on this area as
the additional works take place.
In the 2 projects above I would like to list all of those who helped but
currently I don’t have that to hand but I would like to thank everyone who
helped and I am chasing down a list of helpers. These two projects are what
community in action is all about.
Church Renovations
Yesterday we attended Mass for All Saints Day, it was a very special occasion
because it was our first Mass in our newly renovated church. The painting,
lighting and floor coverings have given the church a new life that we look
forward to sharing. Thank you to Fr Michael for initiating the refurbishments.
Quotes from some of our students in Year 2 about the Church renovations
“Best Church in the whole world”
“It’s so comfortable”
“The cross lights up”
“Jesus looks awesome”
Hooptime Champs
Congratulations to our Year 3/4 All Star Hooptime team who, last Tuesday,
won through to the State Finals to be held later in November. This was a
great effort by our boys in the knockout competition, our team was Callum
Sells, Tommy Lambe, Ky Williams, Max Sullivan, Thomas Spirogiannis, Hunter
Lynch and Joshua White. Coached by Brendan Lambe and Liz Heath. Well
done guys and good luck in the State Finals.

Saying Farewell
Tomorrow we say good bye to one of our Learning Support Officers, Natasha Cappellari, who started with us
in February this year. Natasha has worked with a number of students and classes across the school and as
she looks to pursue other challenges we wish her all the best and thank her for her time at SJV.
St John Vianney’s Fete
Our fete is now only 2 weeks away and the level of activity is growing every day. The fete committee have
been working tirelessly and with the support of our community we look forward to a wonderful event.
Currently the wristbands for the rides are available at the Early Bird price of $30 and after the Melbourne
Cup they go up to $35. All enquiries for the bands contact Clare Lambe.
Don’t forget your donations to the classroom hampers and the Wine Bottle donations. Friday November 10th
Casual Clothes Day for the children and in return we ask them to bring bags of lollies that can be used in the
lolly hunt.
Chrome Book Information Night
Last night children and parents attended an interactive evening to learn about how the Google computers
are used in the classroom. We had a great group of interested families from years 3 to 6 attend. Parents
were taught by their child how to create, share and save documents to the cloud. We also explored a coding
program called code.org. where students needed to move some Star War characters and tell a story in a
visual representation. The night was such a success that we will look at having more of these ICT nights next
year. I would like to thank Mrs. Dorhmann for her preparation of the night and to the ICT team for working
together to continue to improve learning in design and digital learning. I would like to also thank the parents
initiating this event and for all those families who attended.
Holiday Monday and Cup Day
Don’t forget that there is no school next Monday and Tuesday due to the Melbourne Cup. My tip for what
It’s worth- Who shot the Barman. Enjoy the extra long weekend.
SJV Production
“Good news travels fast” Early this term we were contacted by Catholic Education Melbourne who wanted
to publish an article about our “Circus Production” because they had heard such great reports about it. As a
result there is a feature article on the CEM website, follow this link www.cem.edu.au (under News & Events)
To see what the rest of the world can now look in on.
Remembrance Day Poppy Appeal
Over the next two weeks our Social Justice leadership Group will be selling commemorative poppies, badges,
bag tags, pens and wrist bands. They range in price from $1- $5. If you wish for your child to purchase please
send the money with them to school.

Dear Friends I write to thank everyone who helped in having our church ready for worship again at the end of the refurbishment. I was mightily relieved last Saturday morning to be met by a group of fit and eager men to carry back the heavy pews from the garage. Each of the students wrote a delightful message, stating their appreciation of the new décor. I read some of them out to the architect, who was grateful to hear what the children had said. I hope that the more welcoming atmosphere will be enjoyed for many years to come. Fr Michael

November is the month when we remember in a special way, those who have died. You are invited to complete a memorial sheet as a family, and return it to school over the coming fortnight. Memorial sheets will be compiled into a book which will be on display; we will also remember those special people in our class prayers and assemblies during November.

GOLF I was lucky enough to represent our school in the recent golf primary school competitions. I competed in two of them. The first one was a bit competitive. The dads were caddying. I scored 73 in the first comp. In the second comp I came second out of the four in my group. We played 9 holes and I scored 57 and I nearly got hit by a golf ball. Golf is really fun and I really like representing our school. Kane Bogdan
