Dr. Joan S. Miracle was born in Jelico, Tennessee. She received an Associate of Science from Warren Wilson Junior College, a Bachelor of Science from Cumberland College with a major in English and a minor in Social Studies, Library Science certification from Miami University, ban Master of Arts from Xavier University in Education, and an Ed.D, from Miami University in Educational Administration Curriculum. Her teaching career began at Boone County High School where she taught English. She also taught English and

served as librarian at Kings Mills High School. The majority of her career was spent at Princeton High School where she taught English, chaired the English Department, and served as assistant principal for eight years. While there, she was named Ohio Assistant Principal of the Year and was honored by her college alma mater as a Warren Wilson College Distinguished Alumni.

As Dr. Miracle began her retirement, she was convinced to spend a few years helping out a young Christian school, Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy. The few years turned into nine as Dr. Miracle became the first CHCA High School principal. Her standard of academic excellence in a Christ-centered environment along with her profound care and attention to every student in the building became her hallmark. Students always knew that Dr. Miracle could be found in the Commons that now bears her name. When speaking about her life in education, she states: “I was in education for forty-three years and loved every minute of my time with the students!”

Since retiring in 2004, she and her husband Bruce have been spending winters in Key West, Florida, fishing, boating, participating in yoga, bible studies, church board and helping with homeless and underprivileged children. When in Cincinnati, she enjoys helping others wherever needed, spending time with family and friends, volunteering at The Healing Center and serving at The Vineyard Church.

For Dr. William E. Steiden, leading Princeton High School as principal from 1975 to 1986 was one of the crowning achievements of a 40-year career in education. During his principalship, Princeton achieved superlatives in many categories – as state football champions in 1983 and 1987; as one of Ohio’s largest and best-equipped secondary schools, with nearly 3000 students enrolled; in academic breadth and excellence, with programs that included four years of instruction in Russian, a vast array of arts and music offerings, as well as math courses that

provided students with individualized instruction; and, as a leader in computer science, long before home computers had become commonplace. In 1984, the U.S. Department of Education named Princeton High School one of the nation’s best schools. That same year, Dr. Steiden undertook and oversaw the implementation of the International Baccalaureate program. Through his efforts, Princeton became one of the first schools in the country to participate in the IB program.

Dr. Steiden, who grew up in a working-class home and was the first in his family to attend college, was especially proud of Princeton’s reputation for providing top educational opportunities for students from all walks of life, boasting to Cincinnati Magazine that its enrollment was a “cross section” of what was “typically American.”

Before coming to Princeton, the University of Kentucky graduate has achieved distinction in Cincinnati-area schools, directing the band and orchestra at Walnut Hills High School, where he was one of the founders of the Cincinnati Youth Symphony, and he also served as assistant principal at Sawyer Junior High School. After earning his doctorate, he was principal of Finneytown High School, where he is a member of the district’s Hall of Fame. After departing Princeton, he resumed a career that had begun in Kentucky, serving until his retirement as principal of Erlanger’s Lloyd Memorial High School. He also served in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of colonel.

He and his late wife Alma raised three children, two of whom are Princeton graduates. The Steidens were longtime residents of Sharonville and active participants in civic affairs.

The Kiwanis Club of Sharonville was chartered on May 24, 1945 and has been doing volunteer and community service ever since. They have sponsored the Princeton High School Key Club for over 50 years and provided college scholarships to Key Club members. We are a regional sponsor of the Power of the Pen for middle school students and send high school students to leadership training. The Kiwanis Club has supported the Princeton Scholarship Fund, the Viking 50 Club and now the Princeton Education Foundation. The club also supports the Sharonville Christmas Fund and the Princeton Closet. Most recently The Kiwanis Club was a sponsor for the 5K run walk supporting the Viking School Based Health Center. To support these endeavors they have two major fund raisers, the Kiwanis Art and Craft Festival in the fall and a Pancake Breakfast in the spring. In 2018, because the club supports projects beyond Sharonville the club name was changed to the Princeton Sharonville Kiwanis Club. The club meets on the third Monday of each month at 6:00 PM at the Blue Goose Restaurant in Sharonville.

Gary Thompson’s Princeton career began when he entered Springdale Elementary for sixth grade in 1961. When his class entered the Junior High the following year, Ken Hammel became their counselor, and he remained in that position until their graduation in 1968. To give them a feeling of fellowship, he dubbed them the “Shipmates of 68!” Gary was also on the varsity swim team for four years

After graduation from Miami University in 1972, he was hired by the Princeton City School District to teach Physical Education, as well as to serve as a Community School Coordinator. While working at both of these jobs, he received a Master’s Degree in 1974 from Miami University Oxford. Additionally, he served as the Junior High boys and girls swim teams each from 1972-1985. Furthermore, he was the Varsity Boys Soccer Coach for 19 years, during which time they won six GMC championships, came in second place for six years, won District and Sectional Titles, while finishing third in the Ohio State Championship. He retired from coaching in 1991.

Gary retired from teaching at Springdale in 2000, which means that he started as a student at Springdale Elementary and finished as a teacher at Springdale.

Gary’s three children all graduated from Princeton, and he is hoping this will be true for his eight grandchildren.

Gary was on the planning committee for the fiftieth reunion, and he continues to be a support for the Shipmates of 68. He was recently selected as the Grand Marshal for the 2018 Homecoming Parade , and he is currently lending hand to Kelly Lobb Reisen and Mike Lindner to get the Mosaic Murals settled into their new home.
