Why Do We Need One Safe Place?

• A Sampling of Data:

• A typical American child will view 200,000 acts of violence (including 16,000 murders) in the

media by the age of 18.

• 60% of American children are exposed to violence, crime, or abuse in their homes, schools,

and communities.

• In Fort Worth, more than 30,000 children/youth witness violence in the home annually.

• Nationally, 1 in 3 women experience intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual

violence, and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetime.

• Only approximately 25% of all physical assaults perpetrated against females by intimate

partners are reported to the police.
