THE SCHOOL

Angel Tree: Representing the Christian Spirit of Giving to Those in Need The Angel Trees are up in both the church and school atri-ums and are decorated with tags waiting to be adopted by you, the generous parishioners of St. Mary’s. Please return your unwrapped gifts, as soon as possible, but no later than November 25th. If you’re not much of a shopper, we have several volun-teers who are and will do it for you! Simply return your tag and check payable to St. Mary’s Visitation in one of the white envelope “ornaments” to the parish office, and we’ll send out the treasure hunters! Additional opportunities for service include: Shoppers: Using monetary donations from parishioners, we need people willing to shop for gift tag items as needed November 27th-30th. Wrappers: The majority of gifts received will need to be wrapped with donated gift bags and wrapping paper on Saturday, December 1st from 11:30-4pm in the school cafeteria. Confirmation candidates and students with service hour require-ments are welcome! Delivery: We need volunteers to deliver the gifts to the four agencies on Monday, December 3rd from 9:30-11:00am. Please contact Diane Bodalski, [email protected] or 262-510-1944 to reserve your spot for any of the above opportunities, or if you have questions about your tag.

Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 22 ~ 9am Mass

Thanksgiving Day is our great annual national day of acknowledging the bountiful goodness that God has bestowed upon our country. Across the nation, the nor-mal activities of Thursday cease and families come together to be with one another and to share in a meal that reflects the bounty we enjoy. Our parish family will celebrate this feast as we do best: with Mass at 9am. The collection that morning will go to assist our parish in its outreach to families and those in need. The mission of our St. Mary's Visita-tion Human Concerns Ministry is relatively simple: To meet the needs of our pa-rishioners who are sick, elderly, homebound, grieving or experiencing extreme financial hardship, in addition to those who are dealing with stressful situations or difficulty in their lives. Items and services we have been able to donate and coordinate to those in need include: housing searches, gas cards, footwear, clothing, auto repairs, appliances, medical house calls and roof repairs, just to name a few. In light of that, we need your support through the sharing of your time, talent and/or financial contributions. Our Thanksgiving Day collection will go into our Hu-man Concerns fund as we work to satisfy the dire needs of our fellow parishion-ers. Thank you for your kindness and generosity! Many thanks to our staff and volunteers who, in the name of the whole parish, assist those in need. Your generosity helps to continue their works of service and support. Please note that on Wednesday, November 21, the Parish Office will close at noon, and will remain closed through the Thanksgiving holiday, including on Fri-day, November 23.

NOVEMBER 11, 2018 3 ST. MARY’S VISITATION

REGISTRATION & SACRAMENTS

Parish Registration St. Mary’s Visitation is always happy to welcome new members! If you are interested in joining the parish, please call the Parish Office, 262-782-4575 or email Nora Mihm, [email protected] to make an appointment.

Baptism Preparation Children ages 6 and under: Those seeking to have children baptized should be registered, active members of St. Mary’s Visitation Parish. Parents who request baptism for a child are expected to complete a preparation class. It is offered bi-monthly. The scheduled classes for 2019 in-clude: Saturday, January 12th from 10:30-11:30am in church Saturday, March 2nd from 10:30-11:30am in church It is generally easier if the preparation is done before the birth of the child. If you have attended a session within the last five years, it is not necessary to retake the class. To schedule a baptism, please view the baptism dates on the parish website, www.stmaryeg.org/baptism. Please contact Jenny Dascoli at 262-782-4485 or [email protected] for more information or to register for the baptism class. Children ages 6-12: Please contact Josh Dieterich, 262-782-4575 or [email protected]. Adults ages 12 and up: Adults who wish to join the Catho-lic Church and were not baptized can participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Please contact Josh Dieterich, Director of Catholic Formation, 262-782-4575 or [email protected].

The Sacrament of Matrimony The Catholic Church takes preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony very seriously. Generally at least 6 months should be allowed for this preparation. Engaged couples themselves should call the parish office to schedule an ap-pointment to discuss their plans. Marriage can take place any day of the week, although Saturday is generally pre-ferred by couples. Sunday weddings are possible, but a wedding Mass is not allowed for such occasions.

The Sacrament of the Sick The Sacrament of the Sick is available every Monday after the 6:30am Mass. Please stop by the sacristy prior to Mass to let the priest know. Members of the parish facing sur-gery or other medical procedures or tests are invited to re-ceive this Sacrament prior to their appointment. If you know of someone who is in the hospital or who would like a visit from a Parish staff member, please call the Parish Office.

Adoration Chapel “Being a Christian isn’t just following the commandments, but means being in Christ, thinking like Him, acting like Him, loving like Him; it means letting Him take posses-sions of our lives and change them, trans-form them, free them from the darkness of evil and sin.” (Pope Francis) “Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no feet but yours; yours are the eyes through which He looks with compassion on the world, yours are the feet with which he goes about doing good, and yours are the hands with which He blesses the world.” (St. Tere-sa of Avila) Spend time with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in the St. Mary’s Perpetual Adoration Chapel — meditate on how you can best serve Him and fulfill His plan for you. Pray for the Adoration program — for those presently taking part and for an increase in the number of participants. Can YOU take one of the hour listed below or sign up to be a substitute for them? St. Frances Xavier Cabrini, whose feast we celebrate on Nov. 13th, was the first American citizen to be canonized. ADULT FORMATION HAPPENINGS

RCIA is still open! We have begun the RCIA process for 2018-19, but we would still love to welcome anyone who is interested in becoming Catholic, already Catholic but still with Sacraments not yet received, or even fully-initiated Catholics who just want to learn the Faith in a systematic and adult way. Our next class will be Tuesday November 13th from 6:30-8:15pm in the Attic Youth Room. Please contact Josh Dieterich for more information. Visitation Institute Book Study Starts November 8 The bi-annual VI book study will begin on November 8th. As always, we study a classic work of the Faith in the fall, and this year we are studying Thomas Kempis' The Im-itation of Christ. This book is the most popular Christian work of all time besides the Holy Bible and has influenced countless saints throughout the centuries including Ignatius of Loyola, Francis DeSales, and Therese of Lisieux. The book study meets from 9-10:45am in the Attic Youth Room. Childcare is also available with advanced notice, and we will also offer an evening session (6:30-8:15pm) if there is enough interest. The cost is $20 which includes the book. 2019 Lenten Mission—Save the Date! St. Mary's Visitation will have a Lenten Parish Mission on March 11-12th, 2019. We will be joined by world-renowned Scripture scholar, professor, author, and former Protestant minister Dr. John Bergsma, Dr. Bergsma has been a frequent guest on both EWTN and Relevant radio and is a regular collaborator with some of the most well-known Catholic scholars today including Dr. Scott Hahn, Dr. Brant Pitre, and many others. November is the Month of All Saints and All Souls Come visit the parish library and consider checking out one of our many books on the saints, one of our great works on praying for the Poor Souls in Purgatory, or one of our won-derful books on confronting grief if you have recently lost a loved one.
