My dear Parishioners,
In the aftermath of the elections this past week, Americans
generally have been shocked, stunned, stupefied at the re-
sults. For the most part, both major political parties and
many others have been taken by surprise, some happily,
others sadly. Hopeful ballots cast across the nation, particu-
larly from its rural areas and the rust belt, have attained their
goal but in the process have unsettled millions of others.
The election process revealed that our nation is more deep-
ly divided than many ever imagined, and it will remain so
for a long time to come unless we resolutely determine to
commit ourselves to the arduous and often unrewarding task
of healing our brokenness. The reconciliation we hope for
will not come about quickly or easily. But time is on the
side of those who are truly willing to take up the task. Deep
divisions exist everywhere; wounds are painful and infec-
tious. Band-Aids will not do. But starts can be made by
simply listening to people’s laments. Pope Francis likens
the church to a field hospital where the wounded are
brought in and cared for. He also encourages dialogue —
listening as well as speaking. Now, I believe, is a time for
us to listen to one another and to others, just as we, here at
St. Paul of the Cross did when, as a parish, we took up the
challenge of racism and the police. I will discuss this fur-
ther with the Pastoral Council this coming Tuesday evening.
Hopefully, a plan will evolve and you will know about it
next weekend. —Fr. Jerome, C.P.

Stewardship Sunday - November 13, 2016 "As each one has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God's varied grace" (1 Pt 4:10). What identifies a steward? Safeguarding material and human resources and using them responsibly are one answer; so is generous giving of time, talent, and treasure. But being a Christian steward means more. As Christian stewards, we receive God's gifts gratefully, cultivate them responsibly, share them lovingly in justice with others, and return them with increase to the Lord. To Be a Christian Steward - excerpt from the U.S. Bishops' Pastoral Letter on Stewardship.
Domingo de la
Corresponsabilidad/
