Brothers,

Recently, I was fortunate to listen to an interpretaon of an Apostolic Exhorta-on to Catholic Men tled Into the Breach, by the Most Reverend Thomas J. Olmsted, Bishop of Phoenix. I have stated oen that the reason I joined the Knights of Columbus was to become a beer Catholic man and this was an evocaon of means to reach my goal, albeit straight forward but certainly not

easy.

There were seven basic pracces offered that are on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to not only become beer Catholic men, but also to engage in the bale that is raging around us. Bishop Olmstead indicates that this bale is “wounding our children and families”, and “distorng the dignity of both women and men”. “This bale is oen hidden, but the bale is real. It is primarily spiritual, but it is progressively killing the remaining Chrisan ethos in our society and culture, and even in our own homes.” Here is the list of pracces:

Daily

1. Pray every day. Pray the three prayers essenal to the Catho-lic faith: the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be. Pray also at every meal, make the Sign of the Cross, say the “Bless us, O Lord” prayer, and end with the Sign of the Cross.

2. Examine your conscience before going to sleep. Take a few moments to review the day, including both your blessings and sins. Give God thanks for blessings, ask forgiveness for sins and say an Act of Contrion.

Weekly

3. Go to Mass. Fathers who lead their family to Mass are helping in a very real way to ensure their eternal salvaon.

4. Read the Bible. If a man’s children see him read the Scrip-tures, they are more likely to remain in the Faith. 5. Give thanks to God, rest, and be refreshed.

6. Keep the Sabbath. Give thanks to God, rest, and be refreshed.

Monthly.

7. Go to Confession. Open your soul to the gi of our Lord’s mercy.

8. Build fraternity with other Catholic men. Catholic friendship among men has a dramac impact on their faith lives. The Knights of Columbus is a Fraternity of Catholic gentlemen. Seven basic pracces, straight forward but not easy. “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land…” Ezekiel 22:30. You can find the full 23 page text online by searching: “Into the Breech Olmsted”.

Happy BirthdayTo all the Knights celebrating

a birthday in this month of November.

Knight of the Month for October 2016:

The KOM for August is awarded to our faithful Brother, William “Bill” Hicks. Bill is recent Knight, since July, but has shown to be eager to help out within this council. Bill parcipated in our recent Tootsie Roll drive, brought in a new member, and is well along hi way to the Shining Star award. He is not frequent to our Business Meengs and finds ways to support his parish, St. Joseph’s. He has shown interest for more acvies within our council.

Congratulaons, Brother Brian, we are blessed to have you in our council and appreciate your efforts as a Knight of Columbus.

Family of the Month for October 2016:

The FOM for August is awarded to Eoghan Heussaff Family. Eoghan’s Family is always acve at St. Joseph Church with their numerous ministries and support many of our Council acvies, such as our Tootsie Roll Drive. Eoghan enlisted his son, Hervey, to help the Council support St. Joseph’s annual Fall Carnival with site preparaon and construcon of the tents and booths. Eoghan and Haydie are ideal Catholic parents, both providing life role models for their son Hervey and their daughter Sinead.

Congratulaons to the Eoghan Heussaff Family, we are blessed to have you all in one of our Council’s supported Parishes and appre-ciate your efforts strengthening the Church and the Knight of Columbus
