This past month has been a very difficult month for our

family and our church family with the passing of Elvis

Stakey. He has left a very big hole in our hearts and

lives. Elvis always had a smile and was willing to help

anyone do anything. He will be greatly missed at home

and in our church. I want to thank everyone for their

prayers and their presence during this time.

I especially want to thank Carolyn Outland for stepping

up to help in the kitchen during AWANA. We could use

some more help in the kitchen. It will be hard for

Carolyn to do it by herself. If you would be willing to

help, please let me know. We do have a great time at

AWANA and our children are truly a blessing.

I would also like to thank Rita Tabor, Jenny Travis,

Anna Hodge, and Kathy Poague for their leadership in

Sparks while Crystal is at home with Kenadie. Also

special thanks to Jenny Travis for helping with JUMP

while Crystal is off too.

We are finishing our Maker Fun Factory in JUMP. The

children have had fun making robots, gobots,

perplexinators, and learning about being built for a

purpose. The next three months we will be working on

service projects. If anyone is interested in helping, talk to

me. We would love to have you. Children in Christ

We are continuing our four-week lesson on “Counter Culture.”

This has been a very good lesson for us considering all that is

going on with recent events lately. The culture we live in

today wants us to think only of ourselves. We must remember

that we are to be witnesses to a fallen world, spread the gospel

and become “The feet of Christ”; for without feet the body

can’t move… We are reminded that we are to make disciples

of all Nations (Matthew 28:18-20) and we can’t do that if we

don’t break away from the way today’s culture thinks. Not

only do I ask the youth but I also ask you, are you listening to

the culture and worrying only about yourself or are you

making disciples?? If we get too caught up in ourselves, we

may lose sight of what we are called to do. So let’s be the “feet

of Christ” and make the body move to where it wants to go,

we all know what happens if we don’t move. We just stay in

one spot and nothing gets done. So I challenge you all, LETS

MOVE!!

IN CHRIST,

Lance & Trena Gregory

From the church office…my apologies for the delays in

getting the Challenge out. The busy season has arrived and I appreciate your patience. Jan Moore

From Your Pastor: Jim Ewing

You’ve no doubt noticed the

new graphic that we’ve

adopted for First Baptist

Church. We created a new

graphic is to help us present a

new, fresh face to our church

family and especially to our

community. Based on some of my conversations a few folks

are not quite certain what they’re seeing. The graphic is made

of up four colored boxes of different sizes ... but they’re not

just random blocks. These blocks represent the many

different folks that make up our community. Then notice that

these very different blocks come together around a perfect

outline of the cross. The cross in the graphic isn’t always easy

to see at first, but if we’re honest, we tend to see the

differences in people before we see what unites us as God’s

most precious creation. Once you see the cross, you’ll to see

it every time. It’s my hope that’ll be what people in our

community see when they see our graphic and when they meet

and engage with our members.

Wednesday Activities Time Change – At our October

Membership Meeting we voted to change our Wednesday

activities times from 6:15 pm to 6:00 pm. This includes

Prayer Meeting, Youth Meeting, and J.U.M.P.

Sunday School Classroom Updates – You’ve probably

noticed that we’re installing smart TV monitors and DVD

players in the classrooms. Our intent is to provide teachers

with the opportunity to use video-based and internet-based

resources to enhance and expand their teaching ministry.

Activities Building Update – Even though you may not have

heard much about the progress we’re making in the Activities

Building, we’re still hard at work. The kitchen area is almost

complete. We’ve put together four table and chair sets, the

stove and refrigerator are in place and working. And, it’s our

hope that by the time you read this letter, the countertops will

be installed. Also, we’re about to get to work on removing a

wall to open up the meeting area. If you’d like to help, please

contact Ray Tucker or see me. When you have time stop by

and take a look. And thank you for your generous giving.

Upcoming Activities – This is a busy time of year for all of

us. Here’s what’s on the calendar:

Lion’s Club Spaghetti Dinner – Thurs, Nov 2 – This annual

event is hosted by Calvert City Untied Methodist Church from

4:30 to 7:00 pm. You can get tickets from David & Vicki

Madison, Earl & Nancy Whitler, or Cheryl Ewing. Tickets are

$5,proceeds go to the Calvert/Sharpe Family Resource Center.

Lion’s Club Blood Drive – Thurs, Nov 9, from noon to 6:00

pm at the Calvert City Civic Center. This is a great

opportunity to help make a difference in somebody’s life.

Community Thanksgiving Service – We’re hosting this

year’s Community Thanksgiving service on Sun evening, Nov

19, 6:00 pm. We’re asking you to prepare finger foods and

desserts to share with our guests. A special offering will be

taken to benefit the Calvert/Sharpe Family Resource Center.

Church Family Thanksgiving Meal – Our annual meal will

be held on Tues, Nov 21 at 6:00 pm in Fellowship Hall. We’ll

provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixin’s ...

at no cost. All our members and their extended family

members are welcome, we just ask that you let us know how

many are coming so we can prepare enough food.

Calvert City Christmas Parade – Sat, Dec 2 at 6:00 pm.

We’re planning to have a float this year. More info to come.

Hanging of the Green – Our annual Christmas service is on

Sun, Dec 3, at 6:00 pm.

Thank you for 9 years of blessing as your pastor! May the

Lord grant us many more years together.

Music Ministry: Danny Granstaff

Hey folks, many of you have positively commented and given

a “Thumbs Up” on the church’s Facebook page regarding the

posts’ of “Psalms, Hymns and Spiritual Songs”. This is where

the list of songs for the upcoming Sunday service has been

posted, giving all a “heads up” of familiar and perhaps not-so-

familiar songs.

If you’ve noticed this past week, we now have the ability to

click a link within the post, which will take you to a YouTube

playlist of those songs listed, giving you another tool to learn,

listen and in the process worship. Let me say that this is still in

the beginning stages and we hope it’s been easily assessable

for all to follow.

Also, it is sometimes a challenge, with all the different music

styles and arrangements out there in YouTube Land, to find

the most appropriate listening video. They will all be different

for sure. However, we will continue to try our best to at least

give you the most appropriate song/video which portrays the

melody closest to what we will be singing for any given

Sunday morning.

With this technology, we hope to be able to, as a congregation,

learn new songs in a more streamlined process. I personally

want to thank you all for the words of positive affirmation and

encouragement in regard to the music. It is an honor and

privilege to be in the position of music director here at First

Baptist Calvert.

Keep On Singing.
