Marriage Minute

Are you still eating turkey? The first turkey sandwich the day after

Thanksgiving is great, but if you were forced to eat nothing but leftovers

until Christmas, the menu would get old fast.

There are times in marriage, such as immediately following the birth of

a child, or while the family is dealing with a loss, that we need to give

our spouse our “leftover” time, energy and attention. While this is un-

derstandable, if it becomes a habit, our spouses will begin to feel unim-

portant. To keep this from becoming a bad habit, try: • Sharing your

feelings regularly. • Intentionally showing physical affection. • Praying

together. • Expressing gratitude to and for your spouse.

These small gestures do not take a lot of time and effort, but can go a

long way to help you stay connected when life gets crazy! For more,

PROJECT CHRYSALIS UPCOMING MEETING - MINISTRY

FOR PARENTS WHO HAVE LOST A CHILD Project Chrysalis is a new Catholic ministry designed to help parents

who have lost a child find hope through Sacred Scripture and commu-

nity. While this ministry is not a bereavement group, our mission is to

offer support and hope through scripture in a time of transformation.

The next meeting will be held on Monday, December 3, 2018 from

7:00-8:15 p.m. in the St. Luke’s Room at Church of the Ascension,

9500 W. 127th St. in Overland Park. For more information, contact

Ken or Patty Billinger at 913-634-4210 or email kbillin-

[email protected]. You can also find more information on our website

at www.hopeinscripture.com or on our Facebook page -

@projectchrysaliskc. The group is open to parents who have lost a

child or grandparents who have lost a grandchild. Immediate family

members are also invited to attend.

Advent Wreath An Advent wreath consists of four candles (three

purple, signifying penance, and one rose, signifying

joy), surrounded by evergreen branches. One purple

candle is lit the first week, two the second week, two

purple and one rose the third week, and finally all

four are lit in the last week of Advent. The light of the candles signifies

the light of Christ, Who will come into the world at Christmas.

Care Center in Ottawa, and Non-Perishable Food items for the Food

Pantry in Osawatomie through the Advent Season.

CHRIST IS KING

On the final Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the feast

of Christ the King. It’s easy to understand today’s scriptures as events

that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true

somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King

here and now. Jesus’ words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his

kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel

and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here

and right now.

By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith

that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples,

and all of creation. No matter what nation we belong to or what lan-

guage we speak, he “has made us into a kingdom” (Revelation 1:6)—

one people united in love and peace for all eternity.
