One of the Biblical teachings for which Luther is known is on the subject of vocation. Vocation can be defined as one’s calling( s) in life. It’s just not a job, but what we do in service to God and each other. In vocation, Luther says, “God Himself will milk the cows through him whose vocation that is.” For Luther, God is “hidden” or “masked” in us as we serve others. Thus the Christian doctor or nurse who cares for a patient is in a very real way God Himself dressing a wound or comforting a patient. A Christian par- ent caring for a child is God Himself changing a diaper or feeding the baby. A Christian may have many vocations all at once: Father, mother, husband, wife, teacher, choir director, bank teller, police officer…the list goes on and on. On the weekend of November 9 and 10, our Best Is Yet To Come emphasis will be on “Growth, walking through the doors”. An area of that growth is certainly growing in our understanding of Christian vocation. That weekend, we are also observing Veteran’s Day, encouraging our veterans (and service to our country is a vocation!) to gather in the narthex before each service and process up front during the opening hymn to be recognized. To celebrate our vocation (s) that weekend, we encourage you to wear something to worship that reflects one or more of your vocations. First, how about a cross to emphasize your calling as a disciple of Christ? Then, how about a uniform, work clothes, name badge from work, etc.? (This could be from a past or present occupation). We’ll suspend the “no hats in worship for men” custom that weekend…(vets – your military or Legion cap?). Parents, a small picture of family clipped on? Married?…a picture of your spouse? Singles…a picture of your family or special friend? Something to do with a hobby? Community service? Service at church? Use your imagination! I look forward to the fascinating emphasis on vocation November 9 and 10! Blessings! Pastor S. ST. PAUL’S LUTHERAN CHURCH 7821 W. One of the Biblical teachings for which Luther is known is on the subject of vocation.

Vocation can be defined as one’s calling( s) in life. It’s just not a job, but what we do in

service to God and each other. In vocation, Luther says, “God Himself will milk the

cows through him whose vocation that is.” For Luther, God is “hidden” or “masked” in

us as we serve others. Thus the Christian doctor or nurse who cares for a patient is in a

very real way God Himself dressing a wound or comforting a patient. A Christian par-

ent caring for a child is God Himself changing a diaper or feeding the baby. A

Christian may have many vocations all at once: Father, mother, husband, wife, teacher,

choir director, bank teller, police officer…the list goes on and on.

On the weekend of November 9 and 10, our Best Is Yet To Come emphasis will be on

“Growth, walking through the doors”. An area of that growth is certainly growing in

our understanding of Christian vocation. That weekend, we are also observing

Veteran’s Day, encouraging our veterans (and service to our country is a vocation!) to

gather in the narthex before each service and process up front during the opening hymn

to be recognized.

To celebrate our vocation (s) that weekend, we encourage you to wear something to

worship that reflects one or more of your vocations. First, how about a cross to

emphasize your calling as a disciple of Christ? Then, how about a uniform, work

clothes, name badge from work, etc.?

Singles…a picture of your family or special friend? Something to do with a hobby?

Community service? Service at church? Use your imagination! I look forward to

Groundwork Guatemala News

St. Paul’s will again send a mission team to Guatemala November 1-7, 2014. Once again, we will be visiting villages to share scripture and prayer with the Guatemalans in their homes, enjoy praise worship and teach a faith lesson to upwards of 1,000 adults and children, share devotions with inspired local Guatemalan missionaries, and get a

taste of a vastly different culture.

Much of the cost of the trip to Guatemala—our room and board, transportation costs within Guate-mala, support for the mission staff, etc.– has been paid for by the generous ongoing donations of St. Paul’s congregation. You are truly our “home base.” We can’t do it without you, we can’t thank you

enough, and we humbly ask for your continued support.

It is already time to recruit the 2014 Guatemala Groundwork Team, and we are anxious to welcome new members. Groundwork Guatemala is a life-changing, faith-strengthening experience! Although

you go to Guatemala hoping to serve, you will return home blessed beyond anything you might have given.

We will begin meeting in January 2014. Team members must commit to meetings once or twice a month, and also help with several fundraising events. It is our hope to keep each members personal

costs to about $500.00

Consider joining the 2014 Guatemala Team, and prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in mak-ing your decision. For earthly questions, contact Lenore VanSanten at 262-784-0613 or any of the

current ten members. Dios te bendiga!

Friendship Weekend

November 30-December 1

We Need You!

You are going to invite someone to our church, here at St. Paul’s. Who me? You’ve got to be kidding! That’s a scary thought. Yes, there are fears about reaching out to others. Here are some of the fears:

Fear of rejection Fear of the unknown Fear of confrontation Fear of embarrassment Fear of being tongue-tied Fear of offending someone Fear of saying the wrong thing

“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear.” (1 John 4:18)

Isn’t that what it is all about: the love of Jesus Christ. We have it; others really need it. And we are sim-ply inviting others to share in the greatest gift that’s ever been give to the world. So, how do we do this?

First, realize it’s not all about you. It’s about the work of the Holy Spirit. All of the fears come from our own insecurities and the work of the evil one who doesn’t want us to share our faith. Yet, the Holy Spirit is in us, and by His power we can overcome our fears.

Secondly, it involves prayer. God really hears and He will answer. So you need to ponder who in your life you can invite and start praying. Pray for yourself; pray for them to be ready to accept. Pray for the boldness to invite them to come and share in the great love of Christ.

Start pondering people you know…….

In your neighborhood, at work, at school, family members, groups/clubs, church

members who have strayed.

Family Restroom Ready For Use We are happy to announce that the new family, handicapped accessible restroom is now ready

for use. The restroom is located at the east end of the Fellowship Hall, in the north corridor,

next to the existing women’s restroom. The restroom meets ADA requirements for wheelchair

access and interior space. The restroom may be used by people of either sex, so one can

accompany a family member in a wheelchair if necessary. It can also be used as a family

restroom for parents who need to assist small children.

The funds for the restroom came from money donated as part of the Come

Follow Me fundraiser from several years ago and from memorials and special

gifts designated for this purpose. Thanks to all those who participated in the

Come Follow Me program and to all those who donated special funds to make

this needed addition to our facilities possible.

Collection boxes are located in the Church narthex, Grant

St. School reception area or by the main school offices.

In this season of thanksgiving, a sincere ‘thank you’ is in order to everyone who supports our congregation throughout the year with their attendance, service and regular financial contributions.

For those of you who are interested, the church offers electronic giving options for making donations on a scheduled, automated basis. It’s convenient for you and provides much-needed financial consistency for the church. Call Bev in the church office for more details.

Each One Is

Precious:

On the table in the narthex you will find cards for you to sign for our brothers & sisters in Christ who need encouragement,

who are celebrating, mourning etc. Please be sure to stop & add your name to the cards. Birthday Baskets for our homebound members are also there for you to fill & deliver. Thanks for keeping these special members in your thoughts & prayers.

Thanksgiving

It is not just a turkey day

thanks and praise to our

heavenly Father, for all the

blessing he has bestowed

upon our nation Let it not

be a once-a year
