Marco Boer, Vice President, I.T. Strategies, Inc.
In 2010, PRIMIR published a study “Megatrends in Digital Printing Applications.” That study established a baseline for whether and when analog (traditional) printing might “tip” to digital printing and/or electronic format. Forecasts and tipping points were presented by print application. Key change areas investigated were those of technology, market, economic and regulatory environment. As digital printing technology continues to mature with more capable equipment, new innovations and lower capital and operating costs, it will continue to impact traditional print technologies and the traditional print value chain. This study data update will take a detailed view of North America (U.S. and Canada) of digital printing and its impacts using 2015 as a benchmark to provide forecasts through 2020 and provide some general worldwide insights. It will focus on creating a deep investigation of the value chain that drives analog and digital printing applications, in order to develop a well-educated understanding of the threats and opportunities of technology substitu-tion (both print and electronic non-print alternatives) facing NPES and PRIMIR members; and, can be
3
effectively utilized to create even greater value with your customers.
From that base of research, we will develop a list of opportunities available to PRIMIR and NPES members enabling them to create even greater value to their customers. While the focus of the end user research will be the North American market, the sizing data will provide a digital adaption comparison for North America and Worldwide.
Marco Boer is recognized as a trusted consultant to the printing industry, helping equipment manufactur-ers to develop the next generation of digital printing systems. He has a reputation for being able to put complex information and concepts into a context that is easily understood by his audience. With near-ly 30 years of experience in advising and guiding senior executives of Fortune 1000 and smaller inno-vative companies to successful business solutions in emerging digital printing, Mr. Boer has developed a deep understanding of inkjet printing technology and its applications. I.T. Strategies, Inc. has been delivering intelligent data, analysis, strategy, and implementation practices to vendors in the digital printing industry around the world since 1992.

PRIMIR Study Presentation: World-Wide Market for Print – Packaging9:30 - 11:00 AM • Royal 1-4 & Coconut
David Humphreys, Director of Custom Research for the Americas, The Economist Intelligence Unit
In 2013, NPES/PRIMIR published the “World-Wide Market for Print” (WWMP) study produced
by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), which established a new modeling framework, methodology and baseline for examining select countries com-prising the majority (90%) of the global
graphic communications market. With much of the world either recovering, in the
midst, or entering economic recession – the global approach was important to help understand where major developments in the print industry are occurring and allow key players in the markets to best adapt to significant changes. This study focuses exclusively on Packaging. The geographi-cal scope is 26 key countries identified for market sizing and forecasts, with six countries selected for “deep-dive analysis” – all singled-out for PRIMIR and NPES members as either the largest markets or fastest growing countries, to fulfill critical market intelligence needs. This study will show the bench-mark baseline 2011-2015 data and annual five-year
forecasts through 2020, with extrapolation for global market sizing, as appropriate, for the print market sectors and sub-sectors.
David Humphreys directs a team of business de-velopment executives and analysts for the world’s leading provider of intelligence on international markets – The Economist Intelligence Unit, which authored the highly acclaimed NPES “World-Wide Market for Print” study. His areas of specialization include strategic planning, investment opportu-nity analysis, regulatory impact and market entry approaches. David is at the forefront of building the EIU’s capabilities in the area of global talent and strategic resource leadership. Before joining the EIU, David led strategic initiatives for multinationals in industries such as Communications & IT, Health Care, Chemicals, Energy, Automotive and Electronics. He’s served as a senior advisor aiding governments to improve operations and a think tank supporting senior economists. David has directed strategic planning sessions with C level executives covering issues of investment decision- making, customer analysis, cross-disciplinary collaboration, driving the future of human capital and best business practices. David has an MBA from Georgetown University and BA in Economics from Ohio Wesleyan University.
