Literacy - Story Time and Phonics Our groovy story of the week, ‘Giraffes Can’t Dance’ by Giles Andreae

- Let's read / listen to 'Giraffes Can’t Dance’ at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZjsLK5vwNU

- What did you think of the story? Let's talk about it. Who are the characters? What happens in the story?

- Let's read it again slowly and talk about the words in the book.

- Chat with your adult about what the following words / phrases mean - lots of them are action words. Try acting out the meaning of these words / phrases...

munching shoots buckled at the knees skip and prance

froze up leapt up twizzled round

- What other action words can you find in the story?

Mind Up and Yoga Time - Brain Break deep breathing exercises to help calm down and relax: https://mindup.org.uk/mindup-activities/

- Cosmic Yoga - Lulu the Baby Lioness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvJH8Kbzj54

- Feelings talk: Feeling frustrated or angry, like Lulu the Baby Lioness, can be hard. Sometimes when we aren't feeling our best, it can help to breathe deeply and slowly count to 10. It can sometimes help to talk and share our feelings.

Think about what helps you feel better when you are feeling frustrated, sad or angry?

- Would you like to have a long neck? If you did, what would you do? Perhaps you could use it to see things that are high up.

Draw your own giraffe using your hand

- If that is easy, next try using three colours to make a more complex ' A B C' colour pattern.

Expressive Arts & Design

Making a card for Father's Day to give to our Dad or someone else special

- This Sunday will be Father's Day. This is a special day, a bit like a birthday. We use this day to say thank you to our dad or another special person in our life, like a grandad or uncle, or who helps us.

- Today let's make a special card and decorate it to say thank you!

- Who would you like to make your card for? Think about what that person likes and what their favourite colour is to help inspire your design.

My Dad loves buses and his favourite colour is blue so I am going to draw him a big blue bus that says thank you on it!

- Can you write their name and your name inside the card?

Singing - Show and Share: Take turns to sing a favourite song.

What shape will come next?

What colour will it be?
