    6.0 Sports Rules

    6.1. Indoor SoccerNUMBER OF PLAYERS:

6-12 (max 6 males, uneven amount of players must have less males)THE GAME

    A. HOUSE RULES: In general, our rules are governed by FIFA. Please see ourhouse rules below for exceptions.

    i. Matches consist of two 20 minute halvesii. Penalty Spots Defined: The first penalty spot is located at the 3-point

line of the basketball court, directly in front of the net, and will bemarked on the surface.

iii. Penalty Area Defined: The area defined by the basketballinternational key lines, up until the red service line of the volleyballcourt. This is the area where the goaltender can control the ball withhis/her hands. Any hand balls or fouls in this area by the defending teamwill result in a penalty kick being granted to the opposing team from thefirst penalty spot. All other players must remain behind the 3-point lineuntil the penalty kick is taken.

iv. Boundaries Defined: The boundaries of the futsal field are defined bythe boundaries of the regulation size basketball court. Any ball that rollscompletely into the grey area on the outside of the boundaries isconsidered out of bounds. Balls that are on the boundary lines are stillconsidered in play.

    v. Teams are allowed to substitute on the fly when both players arewithin arms length of each other. Goaltenders wishing to sub must waituntil there is a dead ball and notify the referee. Players who come onbefore the player substituting off is close to them will be given a yellowcard, and forced to make the substitution again.

vi. Any ball that is played out of bounds will result in an indirect kickfrom the sideline for the opposing team. To keep the speed of the game

up, these kicks must be taken within six seconds from the time that theball goes out of bounds. The only exception to this rule is if the ball goesaround the curtain and into the other gym. The six seconds will beginbeing counted by the official when the ball is brought back into theappropriate gym of play.

vii. There are no goal kicks in futsal. If a ball is played out of boundspast the goal line by the attacking team, this will result in a goal throw-in. The goalkeeper must throw the ball from within the penalty area and

it must be played or bounce before the halfway line. A violation of thisrule shall result in an indirect kick being awarded to the opposing team

from the closest point on the mid-court line to where the ball crossed.viii. All defending players of a free kick shall not be within a 5 yard

radius from the ball until it is in play.

ix. The goaltender may handle the ball with his/her hands as long as oneof his/her feet are inside or on the line of the penalty area. If agoaltender handles the ball outside the penalty area, an indirect kick willbe awarded for the opposing team.

    x. Goaltenders may not punt the ball. Drop-kicks are legal.xi. Goaltenders may dive in their own penalty area to grab the ball away

from an opponent as long as they dive hands first and their feet areinside the penalty area at all times during the dive.

xii. Any sort of slide tackle is extremely dangerous in an indoor setting. Therefore they are not allowed, and players not adhering to this ruleshall be given a red card and ejected immediately.

xiii. Futsal uses a system of accumulated fouls. Every foul that results ina direct free kick will be added to the teams accumulated fouls. Teamsare allowed 5 accumulated fouls in a game. On the 6th and subsequentaccumulated fouls, the opposing team will get a direct free kick from thesecond penalty spot. Before the free kick is taken, all members of bothteams must be behind the player taking the free kick, and the goaliemust remain on their goal line. Those players must remain behind thekicker until the ball has been touched. Teams will be responsible forkeeping track of accumulated fouls during the game.

xiv. Fouls that are not called due to the official calling advantage on theplay, will not add to accumulated fouls. The exception is if the officialgives the player a yellow card after the play for the infraction.

xv. The following system of time-penalty minutes will be implemented:a) A cautioned player (yellow card) will serve a two (2) minute

penalty and their team shall play short until the penalty timeexpires or the opposing team scores, at which point they mayreturn to the floor.

    b) If there are two players serving minor penalties and a goal isscored, the player with the least amount of time remaining intheir penalty can re-enter the floor.

    c) Red card offences result in a five (5) minute major penalty anda game ejection. A teammate of the offending player who was onthe floor at the time of the offense must serve the penalty for theejected player. Only one player may serve the penalty, switchingplayers serving is not allowed. The major penalty must be servedin its entirety, regardless of the opposing team scoring a goal.

    d) If a third player on the same team receives a penalty, theymust leave the floor, but their penalty does not start until one of

    11

  • 8/3/2019 Nursing Games Package

    12/29

the other two players penalty time expires. The players shallthen leave the penalty box in order of their penalty time expiring,

but only when the team is allowed to have a player re-enter thefloor due to the second or third players penalties expiring or at astoppage of play. If this occurs, a substitute will come on for thethird player, as a minimum of 3 players is required on the courtto play.

    e) Goaltenders must serve their own penalties. A substitutegoaltender is permitted to enter but with no warm up. Teamsshall still play one (1) player short.

xvi. Goalies may not be substituted directly before a penalty kick or freekick, excluding goal kicks and kick-off.

    B. EQUIPMENT & UNIFORMS

    i. Proper shin guards are mandatory (i.e. players with cardboard or sockstucked into other socks will not be permitted to play under anycircumstances). Non-marking shoes are also required. Mouth guards arestrongly recommended.

ii. Any player found wearing illegal equipment will be asked to leave thegame and not permitted to continue until the illegal equipment isremoved.

iii. It is important that all players bring both a white and dark shirt withthem to all games. Generally the Home Team will be expected to wearwhite and the Away Team will be expected to wear dark. Any team thathas a set of matching jerseys will be given priority to wear themregardless of if they are the Home Team or Away Team. If both teams

present have jerseys of a similar colour then it is the home team that willbe given preference and the away team will be expected to change. Nogray or red shirts. Goaltenders must wear a different colour then eitherteam.

    C. OVERTIME PROCEDURESii. In all games, if two teams are tied at the end of regulation time, each

team will designate five (5) players to take part in a shoot-out. A cointoss will decide which order the teams will shoot in. Teams willalternate shots. If the score is still tied after 5 shooters, the shoot-out willmove to a sudden-victory format.

    6.2. Flag FootballNUMBER OF PLAYERS:

7-14 players (max half the team are males, if uneven number of players musthave less males)

    THE GAMEA. THE GAME

    i. A game usually consists of two twenty-minute halves, running time, with a five minute half-time break.

ii. A game may be shortened because of delays or abandoned at thediscretion of the referee or league manager (who shall act as referee inchief in the case of an incident).

iii. Substitutions are allowed only when the ball is dead.

iv. Huddles - twenty seconds maximum, the huddle begins when thereferee blows the whistle and ends when the ball is snapped. The ballmust be put in play before the referee blows the whistle.

    v. Teams are permitted one time out per half. The time out will be oneminute from the time called, and will be stopped time.

    B. SERIES OF DOWNSThe field is divided into 4 zones. A team has three downs to advance the

ball to the next zone for a first down. If the offensive team receives apenalty which causes the LOS (Line of Scrimmage) to be movedbackwards across a zone line, the team must cross the zone line it wouldnormally have (if it had not received the penalty) to attain its next firstdown.

    C. SCORINGi. Touchdown - is worth 6 points, results when a team moves the ball

into the end zone of the opposing team by completing a pass or carryingthe ball.

ii. Convert (1 or 2 points) - is attempted only and always after scoring atouchdown. Is scored in the same manner that a touchdown is scored. For a two-point convert the ball is scrimmaged 10 yards from the endzone.

iii. Single (1 point) - results when a punt travels through the end zone. Apunt receiver catches the ball in the end zone and the ball becomes deadbefore the receiver leaves the end zone.

iv. A single does not result when - a kick-off goes in the end zone andthen out of bounds without being touched. An interception occurs in theend zone and the ball carrier is flagged, runs out of bounds, fumbles, orconcedes the play. After the single point the team that was scored uponscrimmages from the 10-yard line.

    v. Safety touch (2 points) results when - a punt is blocked in the kickingteams end zone; and hits the ground in the end zone. The ball is passedor carried into a teams own end zone by that team and the ball becomes

    13

  • 8/3/2019 Nursing Games Package

    14/29

dead for any reason. This includes a fumble into a teams own end zoneif at some time during the play; the team had possession outside the end

zone. After a safety touch the team scored upon kicks off from their 15-yard line.

vi. Defaults - the score will be recorded as 14 - 0.Coed Rules: If a woman scores a touchdown, it is worth 9 points.

Converts scored by women are worth one extra point (i.e. 2 points from5 yards or 3 points from 10 yards). Touchdowns scored by men areworth 6 points (converts 1 and 2).

    D. OFFENSEi. All players are eligible receivers, and may move down field upon the

snap of the ball.ii. There is absolutely no blocking by the offensive team at any time.

iii. There is unrestricted motion in the backfield.iv. The QB (Quarterback) must verbally signal the snap of the ball.v. The ball must be snapped from the center but does not have to be

snapped though the legs. If snapped sideways, the center must be behindthe line of scrimmage and the ball must be snapped from the ground.

vi. The player receiving the snap must be at least 5 yards behind the lineof scrimmage when the ball is snapped. (mandatory 5-yard shotgun).

vii. Upon the snap of the ball the QB may run or pass.**Coed Rules: The Quarterback must wait for the 5 steamboats

to elapse before rushing. For every three downs each team mustrush with a female at least once, or pass to a female at least once.An excessively errant pass in "the direction" of a female playeras judged by game officials will result in loss of down, and notfulfill this requirement. At no time will teams be allowed toprogress the ball forward on three consecutive downs withoutinclusion of a female athlete. Punt type kicks do not counttoward this count. Failure to comply with these regulations willresult in loss of possession.

viii. All offensive players must avoid the designated rusher.E. FORWARD PASSES

    i. A forward pass is a live ball thrown towards the opponents endline, and must originate from behind the line of scrimmage.

ii. A backward pass or lateral is a live ball thrown or parallel to the

passers endline, and may occur at any time during the play.iii. Only one forward pass may be attempted during a down.iv. If a player down field delivers the ball in a forward direction either

intentionally or accidentally and an opposing player gains possession ofthe ball before it touches the ground, the opposing player maintainspossession and the play continues.

    F. DEFENSE

    14

  • 8/3/2019 Nursing Games Package

    15/29

    i. The defense may designate one player as a rusher. This player mustindicate (by raising their hand) that he is the rusher and choose which

side of centre to rush from BEFORE the offence lines up at the line ofscrimmage.

ii. The designated rusher (DR) is the defensive player indicated by thedefensive captain to the referee and the opposing team.

iii. The rusher must be at least 5 yards from the line of scrimmage untilthe snap.

iv. The rusher has the right to an unobstructed direct path to thequarterback, except when he is more than 5 yards wide of centre.

    v. The rusher must cross the line of scrimmage on the same side ofcentre that he chose before the play.

vi. Any other defensive player may line up no closer than one yard from

the line of scrimmage. Any defensive player may cross the line ofscrimmage, provided that the designated rusher is first across the line.

vii. After the snap of the ball the DR may cross the LOS. (immediatelyfor Mens, after 5 steamboats for Coed). Once he/she has crossed theLOS, all defensive players may also cross the LOS.

viii. A defensive player cannot hold the offensive player with one handand pull the flag with the other.

ix. A defensive player may not use his/her hands on the ball carrier toslow them, push them off balance or cut them off.

    x. Defensive players may not bump a receiver at any time.G. USE OF FLAGS

    i. No garment may hang over, under or near the belt and flags in such away to make it difficult to pull the flag. Any loose portion of the flagbelt must be tucked in.

ii. When a flag is removed from the ball carrier, the ball is dead at thatpoint.

iii. If the ball carriers flag drops which is not the result of a tacklingattempt, the game becomes one hand touch.

iv. If a flag drops as a result of a tackling attempt further down the field, the ball is dead where the flag drops.

    v. The ball carrier may not protect his/her flag by holding it, or swingingher/her arm at the point.

vi. It is the players responsibility to make sure both flags are worn

properly prior to each play.vii. Flags cannot be wrapped around the belt; they must hang from the

    velcro.H. KICKING

    i. Kick-offs are from the 15 yard line; the restraining line is at centerfield. There must be at least 3 players from the receiving team on therestraining line.

    15

  • 8/3/2019 Nursing Games Package

    16/29

ii. If the point of kick-off is moved as a result of a penalty, therestraining line is moved accordingly.

iii. There is no on-side kick-offs (kicks less than 10 yards recovered bythe kicking team).

iv. The kicking team must maintain a 5 yard restraining zone on bothpunts and kick-offs.

    v. If a kick-off travels less than 10 yards before touching the ground itbecomes dead where it first touches the ground.

vi. If a kick-off goes out of bounds on the sides before touching theground the receiving team scrimmages from half. If the kick-off goesout of bounds one the sides after touching the ground the receiving teamscrimmages from where the ball exited the playing field.

vii. If a kick-off is fielded in the end zone and becomes dead for any

reason, within the end zone (this includes the ball carrier running out ofbounds); the kicking team is awarded a single point. The receiving teamscrimmages the ball from the 10 yard line.

viii. The punting team must declare that they are punting before the playbegins.

ix. The designated rusher rule still applies.x. The punter may be touched and downed in the backfield prior to

beginning his/her motion to punt.xi. However, once the punter has begun the motion, the rusher cannot

make any attempt to block the punt.xii. Blocking punts is absolutely prohibited. The rusher has to go for the

flag not the block. Therefore the rushers hands cannot go above their

shoulders on ANY rush.xiii. If a punt goes in the end zone and becomes dead for any reason, a

single point is awarded to the kicking team.xiv. On kick-offs and punts, all receiving players ahead of the ball

carrier must remain motionless once the ball is caught, until the ballcarrier has passed them.

    I. FUMBLES & DEADBALLSi. If the ball hits the ground at any time, it is dead with the following

    exceptions:

during the exchange from the center to the QB or kicker.ii. The ball becomes dead (i.e. the play is stopped) when:

    the ball carrier places at least one foot on or outside the sidelineor endline;

    the play is dead at the point where both of the ball carriers feetleave the ground;

    the ball carrier touches the ground with at least one knee;

  • 8/3/2019 Nursing Games Package

    17/29
