CHARACTERISTICS Observatory 10 – LION

• One deep mooring with physical sensors since 2007

• 11 CTD sensors, 9 T probes and 5 Aquadopp

• Part of the MOOSE network since 2010

• One surface buoy with CTD sensors (upper 200m) with weather parameters

• Way point of glider (cross-validation)

• No TNA and no SA

DATA/SERVICES Observatory 10 – LION

• Real-time transmission (upper variables): 20 levels of T and S data (2-250m depth) -> SEDOO database

• Delayed mode transmission (intermediate to bottom): 20 levels of T and S data (3 min frequency) from 150 to 2400m -> CORIOLIS

• High quality control process to validate data before dissemination through IFREMER-CORIOLIS data Center

Lion mooring 2011

(LOCEAN/CEFREM, phD.

L.Houpert)

Symphonie simulations (LA Toulouse, phD P.Damien)

Validation of the open sea convection models from daily to interannual

Validation of climatic regional models (eg. MLD)

Used for operational oceanography (MERCATOR, MyOcean)

FUTURE PLANS Observatory 10 – LION

Additional bio-sensors: DO sensors added in summer 2013 (LIW, WMDW)

Real-time transmission using the surface buoy and induction system

• 2 acoustic modems: one at 5m downlooking and one at 1000m uplooking (Evologics)

• Cost around 200keuros
