Ron was a junior at OCHS in 1991 when a drunken driver killed him and a classmate. His passions were baseball and football and his dream was to enter the Air Force Academy. Doug was a member of OCHS Class of 2003. He was an advocate for education and had a passion for nursing and Emergency Medical Services. He received his LPN and went on to receive his RN while working as a pharmacy technician and serving as a volunteer EMT at Upper Township Rescue Squad. Doug is greatly missed but his positive attitude and commitment to healthcare and education in the face of his illness are proudly remembered.

Brandon was Valedictorian of the Class of 2003, He was an exceptional student athlete who made as much of an impact through his accomplishments as he did with his contagious smile, his kindness, and his sensitivity to others. He took pride in education and athletics, as well as in bettering his school and community. While juggling advanced placement courses, sports teams and clubs, Brandon also volunteered as an EMT and was a member of the National Honor Society during his high school years. Brandon went on to graduate from Yale University and later developed a passion for providing healthcare to the underserved, continuing his efforts toward social betterment. The Brandon Levan Memorial Award was established to honor Brandon’s memory while also honoring a student who believes, as Brandon did, that to realize your greatest potential is to give yourself in service to others.

Ambassador Hughes/Marie Abarno The late Cecelia Hand Nelson and Morgan Hand II traced their ancestry back to the founding of our Republic and were among Cape May County’s early settlers. Cecelia Nelson was a librarian for many years for the Ocean City Public Library. She was one of the founders of the Ocean City Museum and served as its curator for some twenty-five years. Cecelia’s brother, Morgan Hand II, was one of Cape May County’s foremost engineers and prominent citizens. They both loved Ocean City and worked tirelessly to maintain its traditions and wonderful heritage. This scholarship program was designed to assist qualified Ocean City High School graduates further their education and in turn enhance the quality of their own lives and the lives of those around them. Timothy F. Fitzgerald and Catherine Fitzgerald Scholarship NO Presenter This is the 5th year this next scholarship is being given. Timothy F. Fitzgerald and Catherine Fitzgerald were teachers in NJ for a total of 55 years. Tim was born in Ocean City and attended Ocean City High School. Having lived in Ocean City most of their lives, upon retirement they made Ocean City their permanent home. The Timothy and Catherine Fitzgerald Scholarship fund has been established for Ocean City High School graduates who wish to become terachers. The student awarded this scholalship will pursue a course of study which will enable them to become a teacher. The Fitzgerald’s strongly believed a teacher is a special friend, to help us understand the world and comprehend the beauty and wonder of everything they see and to become a better person. Their dedication to the students of NJ instilled a vision of life long learning to help future individuals to achieve their goal of becoming a teacher.
