The Perfect Game by Steve Felege

Note: Last week’s article was a plea to the USBC to answer some serious questions about their refusal to honor Glenn Allison appropriately. That article was sent to the Bowling News and to the USBC. Chad Murphy, Executive Director of the USBC, emailed a response the following day. He referred me to the USBC statement of Nov. 22, 2014* and proclaimed they have no further comment on this issue. The following is that statement in its entirety:

Usbc concludes re-evaluation of Glenn allison 900 series

terry bigham (mailto:[email protected])USBC Communications Published: november 22, 2014

arLinGtOn, texas - The United States Bowling Congress (USBC) recently con-cluded a re-evaluation of Glenn Allison’s 900 series award application from 1982. Allison received national attention for rolling a perfect series at La Habra Bowl in La Habra, California, on July 1, 1982.

USBC’s predecessor organization, The American Bowling Congress (ABC), after inspec-tion of the lanes, did not approve the 900 series because of non-complying lane condition rules at the time. Allison’s score would have been the first perfect series in history had it been approved. The ABC’s decision was litigated before the United States District Court, Central District of California which upheld the ABC’s determination in all respects.

“The bowling community is very passionate about this issue and we heard calls from a diverse group of voices asking USBC to re-consider Glenn Allison’s award,” USBC President Andrew Cain said. The USBC Board of Directors has reviewed all historical documents on two separate occasions. While USBC has the highest respect and admiration for Mr. Allison, we can’t turn back the hand of time and change the rules in 1982.

ABC rules for approving sanctioned award scores in 1982 were significantly different than current USBC rules. At the time, about eight percent of award scores were denied.

“Any official change to Glenn Allison’s 900 would also impact thousands of scores in that era,” Cain said. “As a national Governing Body with a legal responsibility to enforce rules uniformly, we simply can’t re-write history for one score and apply a different stan-dard more than 30 years later.”

USBC’s Board of Directors has agreed the issue is now settled given that all the evi-dence has been considered.

“Glenn Allison is a living legend and a Hall of Famer who will always be known not only for his bowling talents, but the incredible class he displays as an ambassador for our sport,” Cain said. “While this decision may not be the outcome some people hoped for, I ask that we can all come together and respect the conclusion. It is time to close this chapter and move forward.”

There you have it, a sterile, unfulfilling USBC statement, chock full of nothing substan-tive, but indicating they just don’t want to be bothered with this issue any longer. This evasive response only serves to keep the controversy alive.

To many bowlers, Mr. Allison’s 900 series was, and always will be, the greatest achieve-ment in bowling history; the lack of official recognition, the greatest injustice. He did “the impossible” under the most difficult circumstances; the lanes were constructed entirely of wood, the ball was plastic , the league was second-shift and “mixed.” Satisfying our curiosity about why the establishment continues to snub this man requires facts about that day, and the USBC statement provides none. Are we expected to just forget about it and go away? Something prevents us from doing that and maybe, just maybe, it’s nagging little facts such as these:

- Fact: Oil application was the only issue which prevented Mr. Glenn Allison from receiving the very first 900 ring.

- Fact: Oil pattern judgments, made by ABC inspectors at ~1 AM must have been used as the evidence in the litigated case.

- Fact: Oil patterns change due to bowling activity and evaporation over time.- Fact: As evidence, the oil pattern on the night of July 1, 1982 was “tainted” by two

shifts of league bowling and “X” number of hours passing prior to inspection (open bowl-ing may have skewed the “evidence” even farther).

- Fact: Tainted evidence should never have been admitted into the case of Glenn Allison vS The ABC.

- Fact: The ABC’s assertion that the oil pattern assisted Mr. Allison is patently false because scores were generally lower that night.

To quote a famous national bowling organization, “Rules are rules,” and the rules in 1982 forbid tainted data from being used as evidence in court. It’s also a fact that court rulings are regularly overturned when evidence is re-examined and found to have been tainted. This makes the USBC’s stance against Glenn Allison the greatest mystery in bowling his-tory. Common sense says Glenn Allison overcame the odds that night and deserved to be recognized for having done so. Unfortunately for Mr. Allison, our sport is now overseen by a group of people who wish for us to put on blinders and go away while they hide behind platitudes issued on november 22, 2014. Shame on them!

We salute the Bowlers Journal International for ignoring the USBC by placing Glenn Allison squarely atop their 900 list. He tops ours as well (without the asterisk).

If you believe, as many do, that Mr. Glenn Allison, now 85, deserves the recognition he has earned, you have the right and responsibility to contact the USBC and say so. Their contact information is:

del rosa lanes - Presents $1,000 Grant to Thompson

elementary schoolby Frank Weiler

SAn BeRnARDInO — Del Rosa Lanes General Manager ROn SAnDUSKY and entertainment Manager TOnI FUTCH journeyed to San Bernardino’s Thomp-son elementary School recently and presented Principal Dr. London with a $1,000 Grant from bowling’s “KIDS BOWL FRee” program.

This was Del Rosa Lanes second summer in the kids program and it has been a resounding success. In 2014 Del Rosa had 580 kids participate and that number grew to over 1,600 kids this past summer.

This past summer more than 15,000 schools and over 2,000,000 kids participated in the “KIDS BOWL FRee” program nationwide. The program’s “Bowling To Schools” Grant Program also awarded $50,000 in grants to 50 schools ($1,000 each school). Thompson elementary received one of these grants.

The grant money may be used by each school as need-ed.

It was a thrill for Toni Futch to return to Thompson ele-mentary because she graduated from there just a few years ago. Toni’s three daughters, Shandi, Jamie and Jolie, are also grads of the school.

next time I will tell you all about this great market-ing program that grows our sport and makes kids want to bowl: “KIDS BOWL FRee”.

back to reel off games of 300, 193, 243, 213, 227 and 264. Silver started her second game in the first set with seven straight strikes.

That Silver proclaimed Winnetka Bowl as her fa-vorite bowling house was no surprise to officials at that bowling center. “She says that a lot. She’s won a lot of tournaments here,” said Winnetka Bowl man-ager Mike Willis, smiling.

It’s been an eventful last couple of months for Silver, who got married Sept. 6 to Professional Bowlers Assn. bowler Jim Harvey, a two-time PBA regional cham-pion who has rolled more than 50 perfect games. The two wed in Las vegas in a ceremony officiated by “elvis.”

Silver bowled with Har-vey during the state singles tournament. She was asked if the marriage’s good karma propelled her to her 300. “We can say that,” an-swered Silver, a West L.A. resident. What was Har-vey’s reaction to her 300?

“He was so happy for me,” Silver said. “He said, ‘You really killed it. Well, you are a Hall of Famer.’ ’’

Silver has actually been inducted into three Halls of Fame – Los Angeles Wom-en’s Bowling Assn., Cali-fornia State and Southern California Jewish. “It was a happy day today.”

LAS veGAS – The Professional Bowlers Association Fall Classic, an entirely new multi-event series for PBA com-petitors, gets underway Monday at the new South Point Bowling Plaza with ramifications on a variety of levels for its international field of players.

PBA fans in Las vegas will be able to watch all of the action in the new South Point tournament facility at no cost and fans around the world will be able to catch every round of every event in the PBA Fall Classic live exclusively on Xtra Frame, the PBA’s on-line live streaming channel.

A diverse field of doubles teams – men and women, seniors and rookies, amateurs and professionals – will try to de-throne two-time defending champions Wes Malott and PBA Hall of Fame partner norm Duke as qualifying begins in the 2016 Mark Roth/Marshall Holman PBA Doubles Championship. The high-powered duo won the 2015 Roth/Hol-man Doubles title in Indianapolis when they defeated england’s Dom Barrett and Finland’s Osku Palermaa, 228-203, after winning their previous doubles title at South Point in 2011 when they defeated Ronnie Russell and Sean Rash in the title match.

Barrett and Palermaa will return to challenge for the title again, along with teams including leading PBA Player of the Year contender Jason Belmonte and partner Bill O’neill; the left-handed tandems of PBA Hall of Famer Parker Bohn and partner Ryan Ciminelli as well as Anthony Pepe and rookie Matt Mcniel; 2014 PBA Rookie of the Year Marshall Kent with 2015 ROY hopeful A.J. Johnson of Oswego, Ill.; mixed-doubles partners Ryan Shafer and newly-crowned Professional Women’s Bowling Association titlist Liz Kuhlkin along with Scott norton and Missy Parkin, who grew up bowling together in California youth programs; and the team of Rash and PBA Hall of Famer Pete Weber of St. Ann., Mo., who were rivals as recently as last Sunday when Rash defeated Weber to win the Xtra Frame PBA Iowa Midwest Open title in Omaha.

The Roth/Holman Doubles event in Las vegas included eight qualifying games on Monday, Oct. 19, followed by two six-game match play rounds on Tuesday. Based upon a combined total of 20 doubles (40 individual) games, the top five teams will advance to the eSPn-televised finals which will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the national Bowling Stadium in Reno for delayed airing on Sunday, Jan. 17, and will be counted as a 2016 title on the official PBA stats.

The Fall Classic continues on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 21-22, with the PBA Xtra Frame South Point Las ve-gas Open, a PBA Tour title event. More than 110 players will bowl two qualifying rounds Wednesday with the top 16 advancing to round-robin match play Thursday. After 32 games, the top five will meet in the stepladder finals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. PT. All rounds of the Las vegas Open will be covered live, exclusively on Xtra Frame (for subscription information, visit pba.com and click on the Xtra Frame link).

The South Point Las vegas Open could play a role in the 2015 PBA Player and Rookie of the Year races. Heading into the Fall Classic, Australia’s Belmonte, his doubles partner O’neill and Josh Blanchard of Mesa, Ariz., have each won two PBA Tour titles during the 2015 season. Belmonte’s are both majors (USBC Masters and Barbasol PBA Tour-nament of Champions), so he’s the heavy favorite heading into the final two months of the season which will include the Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open (nov. 3-8 in Garland, Texas) and the GeICO PBA World Series of Bowling vII at the national Bowling Stadium in Reno Dec. 7-19, which will include four standard PBA Tour titles plus the year’s final major, the PBA World Championship. As of Oct. 15, Belmonte also holds the PBA earnings and averages leads. He has earned $168,861 so far in 2015 with a 228.54 average over 237 games bowled. Chris Barnes, who will miss the Fall Classic while recovering from recent back surgery, is second on the money list with $113,920 while O’neill is second on the average list at 227.04 for 187 games.

The Las vegas Open field also includes a slew of PBA Hall of Famers, including 47-time champion Walter Ray Williams Jr., 38-time champion norm Duke, 37-time champion Pete Weber and 34-time titlist Parker Bohn III along with many of the sport’s rising stars, several of whom are trying for their first PBA Tour title. The singles event – the first PBA Tour event ever held from start-to-finish in the South Point Bowling Plaza – also is the first qualifying leg for players hoping to earn automatic invitations to compete in the DHC PBA Japan Open in January. Qualifying pins from the Las vegas Open and the Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open will determine the 10 players who will earn invitations to Japan. One PWBA member also will be invited based on qualifying pins from the U.S. Women’s Open and the South Point Las vegas Open. For a current singles roster, visit pba.com and look for PBA Xtra Frame South Point Las vegas Open under “schedules/PBA Tour”.

Friday, Oct. 23, is set aside for the PBA South Point West Challenge, a PBA West Region event open to players who have never won a PBA title. Xtra Frame also will cover this event.

PBA’s newest venture, the PBA Team Challenge, takes center stage Saturday and Sunday. Seventeen five-player teams have already entered the one-of-a-kind PBA team battle. The Team Challenge will begin with a six-game qualify-ing round on Saturday, Oct. 24, with all five players bowling full games, followed by a 12-game Baker format round. Based on the combined 18-game team totals, the top eight teams will advance to eight games of Baker format round-robin match play Sunday morning followed by a Baker format stepladder finale at 3 p.m. local time. All rounds of the Team Challenge also will be covered live on Xtra Frame. To check out the current PBA Team Challenge roster, visit pba.com and look for PBA Team Challenge under “schedules/PBA Tour”.

The Fall Classic will conclude on Monday, Oct. 26, with the PBA50 Western Open, a PBA West Region event for players ages 50 and older and another event covered by Xtra Frame.

WOODLAnD HILLS – For most league bowlers, roll-ing a 300 may be too ambitious of a goal.

But not so for Reseda’s Mike Hahn.The right-handed marksman blistered a career-best 290

in February of 2011 during a league game at AMF Wood-lake Lanes in Woodland Hills. Only a first-frame spare marred the game.

Hahn then racked up strikes on his first three frames of his next game en route to a 190 score. Those 14 consecu-tive strikes gave Hahn an ‘‘Andy varipapa 300,” a feat in which a bowler blasts 12 strikes in a row over two games. The late varipapa was an accomplished pro bowler who was known for his trick shots.

Hahn’s 11-strikes-in-a-row game is honored on the United States Bowling Congress’ website under Hahn’s name.

A little-known tidbit is that the USBC website lists league bowlers’ averages and achievements over the past 12 years. (The website can be found at bowl.com. Then click on “Find a Member.”)

The USBC, the national governing body for ten-pin bowling, considers honor scores (300 games, 800 series) as achievements. But the USBC also recognizes games in which bowlers roll 11 straight strikes, such as Hahn’s 290 effort.

League bowlers might delight in looking up their name and checking out how their averages have fluctuated over the years. Bowlers typically demonstrate improved aver-ages – and that provides incentive for continuing that as-cent.

Most bowlers will find an empty screen under achieve-ments, but a select group will have some joyful notations.

Rick Auerbach of Woodland Hills, for instance, has

many perfect games memorialized under his achievements. Additionally, Auerbach’s 800 series (in which he scored an 818) on July 11, 2012 also is recognized – among his other achievements.

As for Hahn, he clearly remembers his 290 game. “Any ball I threw headed right into the pocket,” he said. “It was like there was a sanded groove and it just hooked right in.”

As for his first-frame spare, he said, “I buried it. I thought it was a strike, but I believe I left a 10 pin. Then I proceeded to get 14 in a row. I say that I got a 300, just not in the right order.”

So far this year, Hahn has blasted a 250 game and is averaging 180. He said that he is continuing his pursuit of that elusive perfect game.

“My 300 is still to come,” he said.

PBA television ratings on eSPn for 2014-15 not only showed a 23 percent increase in viewership, but made impor-tant gains in valuable demographics, PBA CeO and Commissioner tom clark said.

newly-released ratings data comparing the overall 2014-15 PBA telecasts on eSPn to the 2013-14 season showed ratings gains in desirable areas such as males age 18-49, which was up 55 percent. The combined male-female audience in both the 18-34 and 18-49 age groups were up 50 percent year-over-year.

“It’s an exciting time for the PBA,” Clark said. “These numbers are rarely achieved in sports Tv and are very encour-aging. They are both valuable and attractive to sponsors and partners. The PBA’s mix of exciting players including Hall of Famers, international stars and former collegiate players making their mark in increasingly diverse and prestigious events, plus the continued support of eSPn have the PBA positioned for further growth.”

The new PBA on eSPn schedule begins Dec. 17, with a special Thursday, 7 p.m. eT (4 p.m. PT) live telecast of the PBA World Championship from the GeICO PBA World Series of Bowling vII at the national Bowling Stadium in Reno, nevada.

2016 pbA lEAguE DEClArAtiOn DEADlinEs lOOmingTwo key deadlines for PBA League competition in 2016 are looming – the Oct. 26 deadline for team managers to

declare up to three players they wish to protect from their 2015 rosters, and the nov. 13 deadline for PBA members to declare themselves eligible for the 2016 draft.

NorWALK — the Bowling News was 16 pages stuffed with results of weekly leagues scores, sweepers, pot games, and tournaments. every league in every center had space. Now-a-days, sweepers are the grand finales of leagues.

If you had a 600 plus series or won a pot, you got a pargraph. the phone must have been jammed daily with incoming “At-A-BoYS” (and GIrLS). they only had one phone!

the very long running ‘WASHINGtoN SINGLeS” was in its third year and continued until the 1990’s. everybody took a shot at the SINGLeS. It became a tradition in South-ern California. $500.00 was guaranteed 1st place.

etiquette tip of the week was always good for a remind-er to act like a lady or gentleman on the lanes. Curse words were forbidden (could be fined). Bowler on the right had the right-a-way. When up to bowl, don’t be distracted, bowl! Always wear clean, pressed uniforms. Be on time. Bowl-ing shoes required. Pay league fees every night. use your own ball.

A column called Split-Acular Splits recounted split con-versions. At least 20 per week were reported. (Where did all this info come from?)

Vocalist Patsy Garrett was selected “Miss King Pin 1948”. Her latest record release was “the Bowling Al-ley Polka”, with Vaughn Horton orchestra. Anybody got a copy?? Let’s all hum along.

12 year old “Buddy” Horn was the young star at Santa Monica Bowl taking on any other 12 year old. As long as no money was exchanged, kids could bowl “match games”. Bud went on to manage Park Bowl in Baldwin Park before moving to Las Vegas. Hey Bud!! Are you still in the biz?? Let’s hear from you.

the Bowling News offered $45.00 every week for the first person to roll a 300 game in a sanctioned league.

the California Bowling Proprietors State Singles was promoted weekly and was a big success the first few years. each member center sent teams. What killed it?? Greedy

proprietors. everyone wanted to host, no one wanted to work. the idea is still sound today and could be a great tournament. Do we HAVe a state proprietors associa-tion???

Frank Del Conte purchased Alhambra recreation at 6th and Main in Alhambra.

Bowling Proprietors paid 25 cents to have their Bowling News special delivered. today a Bowling News costs $1.00 to make and deliver. Bowlers get them free. A years sub-scription was $2.50 for 52 issues. today’s price is $40.00.

tex Beneke, popular singer with the Glenn Miller Band and, was the spokesman for Acme Beer. remember, “I Got A Girl In Kalamazoo? Acme was the “bowlers beer.”

the A.J.B.C. National tournament was a ..... “bowl ln your home house, verify the scores, send to Nationals and wait for the results. Junior leagues all over the u.S. were sending In scores??

the L.A.B.A. staged a bowlers variety show to raise money to send delegates to the A.B.C. Convention. there were top acts and tons of door prizes. Admission? $1.25 per person.

Eli Whitney was the “unofficial reporter for the A.B.C. ...” “ don’t rightly cotton to that.”

For scorekeepers an “Absent Bowlers Mark table” could be cut out and used in their trade.174 to 183 9 marks, 164 to 173 8 marks, 154 to 163 7 marks, etc. “Does anyone under the age of 30 know how to keep score???”

A mixed league in riverside had a “costume party” one league night. third prize was a peanut (in a large box). Second prize was a penny (in a large box). the grand prize was a dill pickle (in a large box).

ORAnGe COUnTY — Yes, it’s that time again... Or-ange County is celebrating and keeping a promise made in 1942. The Orange County USBC is gearing up for our annual fund-raising drive for the Bowlers to veterans Link (BvL), a non-profit organization of league bowlers, providing programs and services for military veterans in need!

Orange County USBC volunteers will be canvassing all Orange County centers to ask all league bowlers to con-tribute $1.00. Some leagues have incorporated their dona-tion into their league funds and that is wonderful, Thank You. Our goal is to collect $9,000 and considering we have 9,000 members plus, that should not pose a problem. Remember, all proceeds and donations stay in California. BvL picks up where government funding leaves off, pro-viding many, many items (extras) that brighten spirits and boost morale.

WInneTKA – Gabriel Ramirez of Monterey Park pro-vided one of the biggest highlights of the 2015 Califor-nia state singles championships last weekend at Winnetka Bowl by blasting his first perfect game.

The left-handed Ramirez, a 185-average bowler, nailed his 300 in the second game of his six-game set Saturday. Ramirez had rolled 11 strikes in a row in a 290 game three years ago.

nearly 200 bowlers took part in the state singles tour-nament, which exceeded the tournament’s participation in 2014 in visalia (135 bowlers) and in 2013 in Torrance (178). The tournament had four squads, divided over two days.

Official results are set to be released later in the week. The 46-year-old Ramirez put on a show with a scratch

total of 1,432. That comes out to a scorching 238.8 aver-age. He also blasted a 278 in his first game.

It was the first time that Ramirez had bowled at Win-netka Bowl. He competed in a league last season at West Covina Lanes, averaging 185. Ramirez said he was “ec-static” about his first 300. “It’s the best I’ve ever bowled,” he said.

He added that a 300 was one of his biggest goals in bowling. “Before I died, I wanted to get a 300,” he said, laughing.

Another powerful performance was turned in by Carl Comrie, who smoked a 290 in his final game of his six-game set on Sunday.

Comrie spared in his first frame and then knocked out 11 strikes in a row.

Comrie has bowled one perfect game – that gem coming in 2011 at now-defunct Wagon Wheel Bowl in Oxnard.

Comrie also had bowled during Saturday’s action. He said he didn’t bowl well the first day so he was “glad to redeem myself.”

Comrie had scores on Sunday of 220, 212, 238, 228, 191 and 290. “It was my best six games ever,” said Com-rie, who averaged over 200 last year in league play at Win-netka Bowl and Buena Lanes in ventura.

BurBANK — recently, the bowling world lost a very dear friend. Bill Mossontte was a man of great kindness. He kept bowling alive in his many centers welcoming and supporting a jillion youth bowlers. More often than not, he was handing money over to Diddy Watts to provide some-thing for the kids. Diddy has been gone awhile now and those of us that worked with her miss her dearly as well.

It was a bit like watching Laurel & Hardy when the two of them would go at it. they would parlay, stab and jab, all the while thoroughly enjoying the play of power and ending with Bill giving Diddy what she needed. Bill & Diddy were, and still are, powerhouse names in the local bowling com-munity. Always let it be said though, both were devoted to keeping the youth going.

Bill was generous to a fault, giving when asked, helping when needed.

A self made man, he worked hard making a life for him-self and his family. He gave business advice freely if asked and influenced our own Janie in her times of query.

I am proud to have known Bill. And I am happy to carry on his philosophies regarding the youth bowlers. the bowl-ing world is a better place for having Bill Mossontte in it and I for one, will miss him greatly.sunday night hdcp: (scr) Val Hoag 244, Cynthia estrada 165, Sylvester Foster 671, Sandra Lueras 445. DOWNEY — It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough as Threadworks moved into 1st place in Round 5 by sweep-ing past The Professional Approach 5-0. The US Open pat-tern was playing especially tough tonight as most teams struggled. Paul Varela led the charge to the top, as he fired a very nice 604 series to lead the sweep. Danny Ly led Power House Video Games to a sweep of their own, as they took down Blizz Yogurt 5-0. Danny shot 625, while Greg Neuer led Blizz with 581. Team DV8 is once again in contention for the round lead, as Sam Hitchcock winged his way to 242/623 and led DV8 to a 4-1 win over Linder Insurance.

Linder was paced by Kurt Arakaki 592 and Kevin Val-monte 591. In the best scoring match of the night, Pino’s Pizza prevailed 3-2 as they held off Alhambra Coin Center to win Team Totals by 13. Both teams bowled well, finishing as #1 and #2 scoring teams for the night, and their pair was 250 pins higher than any other two teams combined scoring for a pair. Leading the way for Pino’s was Ramon Torres 627 & Leonard Ruiz 600, while Alhambra was led by Doug Kempt 660 & Steve Gaucin 608. Herzog Insurance took a 4-1 win over the PJ-less Los Altos Trophies team as Mikey Villarreal shot 625 for the winners, while Top Dog for the night went to Los Altos’ Buddy Lucas with a very fine 670.

In the roll off team matches, it was Erickson Foods once again losing the first two games, only to come back strong in Game 3 and not only win the game, but Team Totals. Er-ickson pulls within 2.5 games of holding the #1 seed with the 3-2 win, as nobody managed to shoot 600 series, Herbert

Jones led the way for Keystone Lanes with 589, while Jason Buenviaje shot 563 for Ericksons. Charlie Kinstler shot 614 to lead SYSCO to a 5-0 sweep of Forest Lanes who strug-gled all night to catch SYSCO. Mason Man O’Lantern Sher-man topped Forest with 589. American Harvest Vodka out shot CASAMIGO’S Tequila and won 4-1 as Kevin Jones rolled 588, while Vernon Adams topped the Tequila team with 565. Mike Jennings shot 594 to lead Tifco Industries to a 4-1 win over BOWLIUM, who had the pair’s high series, Craig Stevens with 623. Matt Mosley powered his way to 255 & 638 to lead Cook’s Bowling Supply to a 5-0 sweep over J.A.T. DeeRonn Booker led the Junior Amateur Tour team with 549. In the final pairing, it was GJC Services win-ning 3 points as Juan Zavala topped his squad with 511.

Sidepot winners were Game 1 – Sam Hitchcock 242 Game 2 –Jason Buenviaje 226 however the Financial Advi-sor’s pot was won by Buddy Lucas 225 for $240 with Leon-ard Ruiz Jr. 2nd place with 223 for $100. Game 3 Super Pot went to Mikey Villarreal 255, quite the contrast from last week where you needed 11 strikes or more to win. The TRUE ANCHOR award goes to a new winner, Barry Couch Jr. collected the honors with a 3 game set of 361.

One more week on the dreaded US Open shot to try and move into the Round Lead, improve your standing, or move up the ladder in the Roll Off seedings. I’m sure most can’t wait for May to get here, since we will be finished with this pattern. Hope to see you all down at Del Rio next Monday in Downey. Have a blessed week everyone!

Downey — The Brunswick Invitational hit the lanes for week 6 of 7 on the “house” round and as suspected scores continue to be high as the bowlers have tweaked their arse-nals and attack angles to match up with the new lanes. Ver-non Adams put up a couple honor scores with a perfect 300 and 800 series to lead the league. only one week of scoring left before the league transitions to the infamous 2nd round “short” shot which should bring scores back in check.

In the “A” match, Professional Approach who had only lost two games all round took on Forest Lanes whose 2616 last week was enough to bump them to the “A” match, though they are 6 back at 17-8.

Last bunch to join the party Lee Liu’s 15.5-9.5 Team 20 met up with the J.A.T. alums who were top of the 15-10 teams.
