29th Sunday Ordinary Time ~ Actions always have consequences. So if you eat contaminated food,
you get sick. It is just logical. Jesus makes that point as well in today’s gospel. If you use a particular
currency, you are subject to the laws and limitations that are a part of that currency. It seems
reasonable to presume that since the Pharisee had a Roman coin he was probably using that currency.
Israel was an occupied territory of the Roman Empire. Using Roman currency had it benefits and it was a strong
currency. But it also had its limitations – taxes were imposed. So Jesus applied the logic to the question presented to
him: “Is it lawful to pay the census tax to Caesar.” If you use Roman currency, you are obligated by your use to pay
taxes: “Pay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar” was Jesus’ reply. That’s just logical. That really wouldn’t nor shouldn’t be
opposed to God’s law. It would appear that the question set to trap Jesus in fact trapped the Pharisee. Jesus took it a
step further and answered a question that was implied but was not asked. He said: repay “to God what is God’s.” What
does belong to God? Well… everything! Are we giving all to God? Daily the Jews recited their Schema: “You shall love
the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” Actions always have
consequences. To be in relationship with Caesar involves giving him certain things. To be in relationship with God
means giving all to him since all comes from him and belongs to him and shall return to him! Father Perry Leiker, Pastor

Until the “check is in our hands” we can only give a preliminary but we think a pretty accurate account of the results of the Citadel Extravaganza Fund Raiser.

This was an amazing and easy fund raiser just requiring
participation. How wonderful if we could double our
29 Domingo del tiempo Ordinario — Las acciones siempre tienen consecuencias. De tal manera que si usted come alimentos contaminados, se enferma. Eso es lógico. Jesús nos señala ese punto en el evangelio de hoy. Si usted utiliza una moneda en particular, está sujeto a las leyes y
limitaciones referentes a esa moneda. Se supone que, dado a que el fariseo tenía una moneda Romana lo más seguro es que hacía uso de ella. Israel era territorio ocupado por el Imperio Romano. El usar la moneda Romana traía beneficios y además era una moneda muy valiosa, pero también tenía sus limitaciones; se obligaban los impuestos. Así que Jesús aplicó la lógica a la pregunta que se le presentó: "¿Es lícito o no pagar impuesto al César?" Si usted utiliza la moneda Romana, está obligado por su uso a pagar impuestos: “Den, pues, al César lo que es del César” fue la respuesta de Jesús. Es lógico. Eso sí que no sería ni debería ser opuesto a la ley de Dios. La pregunta hecha con el fin de atrapar a Jesús en realidad atrapó al fariseo. Jesús dio un paso más allá y respondió a la pregunta insidiosa que no fue formulada. Dijo: “Den a Dios lo que es de Dios." Que es lo que le pertenece a Dios? Bueno .... pues todo! ¿Estamos dando todo a Dios? Diariamente los Judíos recitaban su esquema: "Amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu
corazón, y con toda tu alma y con todas tus fuerzas." Las acciones siempre tienen consecuencias. Para estar en relación con el César implica darle ciertas cosas. Para estar en relación con Dios significa darle todo, ya que todo viene de Él, le pertenece a Él y debe volver a Él!

través del Bautismo, de ser misioneros. Nuestras oraciones y celebración
Eucarística de hoy, están dirigidas hacia nuestros hermanos/as en todo el mundo que ansían oír la feliz ’Buena Nueva’ de Jesús. A través de nuestra ayuda financiera, ofrecida en la colecta de hoy para la Sociedad de la Propagación de la Fe, llegamos a ser socios con los misioneros que proclaman el Evangelio y ofrecen ayuda y esperanza a los pobres de países en vía de desarrollo.
NOVENA DE MISAS PARA LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS La Novena Anual de Misas para los difuntos, cuyos nombres nos entreguen comenzará el Jueves, 2 de Noviembre. Los sobres especiales se encuentran en las mesas junto al altar y a las puertas de la iglesia. Los pueden depositar en la canasta de la colecta o entregar en la Rectoría.
La Parroquia de San Bernardo está organizando un desayuno en el Centro Pastoral cada primer jueves del mes después de la Misa de las 8:00a.m. Tómese
unos minutos para partir el pan con nuestra congregación e intercambiar bromas en un ambiente cálido y acogedor. Nos vemos el 2 de Noviembre para el Día de Confraternidad de San Bernardo. Gracias y Dios les bendiga.
