They worked well together,” says Elias, “no matter what line up I put on the court. All the girls were so eager to play and were hardworking. These girls never gave up and I think that is an important trait to have in sports and in life.” Over half of the team are in eighth grade which means Coach Elias will have a building season next year. St. Joseph Elementary highlights drug prevention with Red Ribbon Week Red Ribbon Week is a national, annual effort to highlight drug preventional and education in our schools and communities. As stated on the official Red Ribbon week website, “Red Ribbon Week serves as a vehicle for communities and individu-als to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education...” The program began through the efforts of the friends of fallen DEA Spe-cial Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camaren died at the hands of drug dealers in 1985. Each day of the week focuses on a way in which kids can kick drugs out of our communities. Thursday was “throw-back” day during which students learned about throwing out drugs. They also got to “throwback” their style to an earlier era.

Above: These sixth graders decided to throwback to the 1980’s when aerobics, Michael Jackson, and “Flashdance” were the fashion.Right: Mary Katherine, Bella, and Avery throw back to the “Happy Days” of the 1950’s when pony tails, bobby socks, and Elvis Presley were cool.

Friday night’s score is one for

the records A glance at the score could make one think it was the conclusion of an exciting basketball game. But with a score of 75-50 for a high school football game, you know there was a lot of action on the field and that was definitely the story Friday night as St. Joseph traveled to Shiner to take on the St. Paul Cardinals. Senior

Nicky Damon scored 6 touchdowns and rushed for 274 yards. His last touch-down of the night came in the final sec-onds of the game when he intercepted the ball one yard from the Cardinal’s end zone and ran it back 99 yards. Se-nior Tres Todd scored two touchdowns and rushed for 151 yards. Quarterback Luke McClure completed 11 out of 13 passes and scrambled into the end-zone for two points in an extra point attempt. Friday night’s win secured the Eagles’ spot in the playoffs. They are undefeated in district play and take on John Paul II Catholic High School from Shertz Friday night.

The Eagles line up against the Cardinals Friday night.ItwasthefirsttimetheEagleshadeverbeatenShiner.
