LODGE BULLETIN
October, 2016

Exalted Ruler’s Message
Fall is finally here and while some of our northern friends are get-ting snow already it is still hot down here. Our migratory Elks will soon be arriving at their winter homes, so let’s all welcome them back in true 829 style.
We are continuing to serve food and Chef’s specials nightly. Our house manager, Lorin Austin continues to improve the quality of food and service at our Lodge. Many members have compliment-ed the consistently good food and the word is getting out. It is nice to know that Elks can come to our Lodge for great food. We are also working on healthy options like grilled chicken or broiled fish. So come on down and join me for dinner and tell me what you would like to see in our Lodge.
Friday night dinners are doing great too - we have had large turn-outs for dinner and some great entertainment. Regarding Friday dinner reservation, please make your reservations prior to Friday. We don’t want to have to turn anyone away. The Chef must order the food in order to have enough for everyone! Thanks to the all the gentlemen in collared shirts, long slacks and ladies in your nice attire. I just might ask anyone wearing a ball cap in the din-ing room on Friday nights for a donation to charity.
We just completed our annual audit and the District Deputy Paul Orvosh made his official visit. Our Lodge is on the right track and looking good. We still have some work to do but the major parts of the audit were thumbs up! . Our next visit is to the Gainesville Lodge on October 22; if anyone needs a ride let me know. The theme is an English Beer Pub.
My Elk of the month for October is Fred Dupont. Fred is a good Elk who has been around awhile and not many realize the things he does. Recently, he took charge of the Veterans stand down and coordinated the event with the volunteers, donations, and the many veteran’s organizations. He also is the coordinator for the Veterans luncheons we serve here at the Lodge every month. Excellent job Fred!

Eland News
Hand & Hand, Building a Future for Children
Fall is in the air, football is in full swing, the children are back in school and now I am waiting, a little impatiently, for some cooler weather. I’m sure it will be here soon.
Wayne and I just came home from attending the Florida Ladies of Elks 2016 Annual Conference held at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, Clearwater Beach, Florida. It was a wonderful conference, wish all of you could have been there. I come back with some very exciting news – Eland received a beautiful plaque for “FIRST PLACE” for contrib-uting the “Most Money to the Florida Elks Children’s Therapy Services for the Fiscal Year 2015 – 2016 $3,900.00 and we received another beautiful plaque for “FIRST PLACE” for contributing the “Most Money Per Member to the Florida Elks Children’s Therapy Services for the same year. And, we also received a Certificate of Appreciation from The Florida Elks Youth Camp for our contribution in the amount of $1,800.00 for the Fiscal Year 2015 – 2016. Congratulations ladies on a job well done. I would also like to mention that the Orange Park Ladies of Elks #2605 also received a Certificate of Appreciation for their contribution of $600.00 to the Florida Elks Children’s Therapy Services. Our District may be small but “We Are Mighty”.
We have now entered our very slow period for Eland. With that said, it was a unanimous vote at our September meeting that we take a little break during October and November. Our next meeting will be our Christmas get together at Zaharias, on the Island. Plan to attend this very festive gathering and please bring a gift (between $10 and $15) to ex-change . Also please bring an unwrapped toy for the Toys for Tots and we will drop them off at the Lodge for pickup. And even though we are not having a formal meeting in October or November I will be sending regular e-mails keeping everyone up to date on all the exciting news of Eland. So if your e-mail address changes, please notify Sharyn Grace at [email protected] or to me at [email protected] and we will make a correction. We want to keep you informed.
Our next Big Fundraiser, the annual “Garage/White Elephant Sale” will be Saturday Jan-uary 21st with the setup on Friday January 20th. Please start saving all your items for this big event. We have already started to receive items and this is promising to be one of our biggest events ever and everyone’s help in need to continue to build on our success.
Orientation for new Elks Members will be Tuesday, October 25th at 6:30 PM. Come join Sharyn Grace, our Vice President and Membership Chair Lady, as we share Eland with the new incoming members and their spouses.
Eland’s next meeting will be held in the New Year, on Wednesday, January 4th at 7:30 PM in the back Hall and I encourage each of you to stay after to enjoy each other’s friendship and share ideas. And in January we will continue our Eland Luncheon Socials for Eland members, friends and guests or anyone who would like additional information on becoming an Eland member. The locations will be announced.
For additional information about Eland, please contact our Vice President / Membership Chair Lady, Sharyn Grace, you can reach her at (516) 312-6317 or by e-mail [email protected] or you may contact me.

SPECIAL MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT
Initiation of new members has moved from the regular busi-
ness meetings to a special initiation meeting on the 4th
Wednesday of the month. This change should help to short-
en our regular meetings. Initiation will begin at 7:00pm with
the short form of opening and closing. No business other
than initiation of new members will be conducted at this
meeting. We anticipate the meeting being approximately 1
hour in length. The bar will be closed during the meeting
time. All members are encouraged to come welcome the new
members to our Lodge and witness their initiation.
Orientation meetings will be on the Tuesday preceding the
Initiation. The special initiation meetings will be announced
in the Lodge bulletin in advance. We hope that you will come
out to greet our new members at the special meeting just for
them.
Fraternally,
John Gebert, Exalted Ruler

From the House
Here we go into the Fall Season and as the weather changes so will services for our patrons here at the lodge. Please note the following changes:
Change One Last month we increased our Friday Night Dinner by one hour adding an Early Bird option from 5pm to 6pm. Unfortunately the Early Bird option did not generate much interest. On that note as of October 1st Friday Night Dinner will go back to the original 6:00pm to 8:00pm schedule with no Early Bird Special.
Change Two We are changing the Friday Night Dinner menu. We have been serving Prime Rib for Friday Night Dinners for some time now. In order to control cost due to a severe hike in the price of beef, we are now re-placing the Prime Rib with Steak to Order. The Steak to Order option will take slightly longer to be delivered when you order your meal but no longer than a normal restaurant would take. This way, we will not be limited on how many entrees are available. Hopefully this option will eliminate the need for a sign up sheet yet we can still control over prep-ping and waste.
Change Three SUNDAY BREAKFAST IS BACK! Sunday Breakfast is back starting October 2nd and will be served each Sunday from 9:00am to 11:00am. Also enjoy a new lower price at only $8.00 per plate.
Tuesday Dance Lessons Continue Rumba is the smooth, slow, Latin dance of romance and a fa-vorite at weddings. It is a perfect dance for beginning dancers. So, if you keep vowing that you will learn to dance “one day,” this is your day. For one month, October, we will have free lessons on Tuesday nights from 7:00 to 7:45 pm. Jim & Peggy White will teach lessons that build on the previous lesson and by the end of the month you will have a series of steps that you can use. So, it is very important to attend each class.
Rumba music is great. You are sure to find some of your favorite songs on the playlist. Come out and enjoy a fun time with friends.
And Finally
TIKI BAR IS BACK ON SATURDAY! Starting October 8th. The Tiki Bar will be open Saturdays from 1:00pm to 8:00pm with live
entertainment and food. Since the weather is becoming milder we hope our Patrons will take advantage of the Tiki Bar on Saturday. The Tiki
Bar will also remain open on Sunday as usual with your favorite Karaoke singers. Please come join the fun.
