The Park at Sixth won the Outstanding New Construction / Infill Award. “This honor is presented to a project that is sensitively designed and implemented to bring new activity to a vacant lot, brownfield site, or an addition to an existing structure that increases a downtown’s vitality,” said Kira Harris-Braggs, Griffin Main Street Program Manager. “With the completion of Phases I and II of The Park at Sixth, we have already been able to host a Doc’tober Days event, June Jam 2011, and several of the Downtown Free Movie Series showings— bringing hundreds of people back downtown. We are now looking forward to finishing the Park with the addition of the J. William Edwards Pavilion, that is scheduled for completion by December 2011. “The Griffin Main Street Program has created a catalyst in Downtown Grif- fin,” said Daa’ood Amin, Griffin Main Street Advisory Board Chairman. “By leading the effort to create this awardwinning greenspace, we have shown The Park at Sixth receives statewide recognition continued on Page 3

The fall leaf season is approaching. We have inclua few reminders about your yard waste pickup:• Only limbs, leaves, and grass clippings maplaced at the curb for general collection.

• Limbs placed at the curb should be in lenno longer than 4 feet and no larger than 6 inchediameter • For everyone’s safety, please DO NOT pyard waste next to utility poles/wires, fire hydramail boxes, or visually obstruct any motorist.• Rocks, dirt, stumps, concrete, wood, cawire, furniture, tires, and similar items are not accable curbside materials.• Piles larger than the size of a standard Fpick-up truck bed will require arrangements for a “S

cial Handling” – please contact the Solid Waste Dsion prior to the debris being placed out on the rigway (770-229-6421).• Yard Waste removal is not scheduled for cmercial or industrial customers. Congratulations to John Jefferson, an Operato – Commercial Driver, as September 2011 StrongLink in the Chain. Almost a 6-year veteran of City of Griffin, Mr. Jefferson serves more than

commercial customers with their solid waste recycling needs, working in a 20-mile radius in around the City of Griffin, Spalding, Pike and BCounties and moving an average of 100 tons given week. In addition to servicing our curcustomers, Mr. Jefferson also assists with individrequests for rental roll-off boxes for their construcand demolition, roofing or debris clearing neeensuring timely delivery and prompt removal replacement whenever a customer calls to requassistance.
