We yearn to come together as a faith community, but first andWe yearn to come together as a faith community, but first and foremost, we must be a safe faith community. To reserve a place at any of the parishes listed below you must call the number on the days and times indicated below. We will not take reservations outside of those hours and we cannot take voicemail, email or texting as we need to speak with you when you call. There are specific questions we must ask you and some information that we must give you. A phone call is required. Registrations will be taken each week for the upcoming weekend only. The protocols state that in order to sit in the same pew in the church, you must live under the same roof; therefore please register accordingly. We will do our best to ensure that each parishioner in the Saint John Paul II Pastoral Unit will get to attend once, before anyone else attends twice.DISPENSATION FROM MASS. We know that this is difficult but during the time of this pandemic, the dispensation of Sunday Mass is given for those who cannot go, and for those advised not to go, to church. Rather, these faithful are invited to read the Word of God and to pray in their homes and to participate in the celebrations of the Mass via TV, radio and/or the Internet.WE WANT YOU TO FEEL SAFE INSIDE YOUR PLACE OF WORSHIP.Please know that before each Mass, every pew, railing, door handle and all bathrooms will have been cleaned and sanitized by a crew of amazing volunteers! Please help them by making sure that you take all of your belongings with you when you leave. Maybe this ‘new normal’ won’t be exactly what we want it to be, but it will be what we need it to be.WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN COMING TO MASS• Arrive 15 to 30 minutes early to allow the check in process.• In the parking lot, stay safely 6 feet apart.• With your mask on, stop and allow the volunteer to check you in.• At the door, stop and you will be given hand-sanitizer (your hands will be ‘squirted’).• Inside the church, follow the volunteer to your assigned seat.• During Mass, follow all arrows and markings on the floor, so we all stay safely 6 feet apart.• There will be one Lector for all readings• There will be no Altar Servers• You will notice that there are no Missals (bring your own).• You may bring water if you think you will need some.• You will notice that due to air transmission of Covid -19, there are no fans, electric or manual.• During Mass, enjoy the Music Ministry, but for now, no singing in the pews.• We will wish each other the Peace of Christ by nodding, smiling, bowing and waving.• During Communion there is no verbal exchange, simply silence.• Following Mass, to leave the church, please follow the directions of the Hospitality Minister and remember to bring all personal items home with you.• When leaving, respect the safety of keeping the 6 feet between you and your fellow parishioners in the church and when out in the parking lot.

• Lastly, although Mass will be 'different', it is still wonderful. It is still Mass, still reverent, still holy!

WEARING MASKS IN THE CHURCH IS MANDATORY

At the beginning of August, the Management Team and I reread what happened to launch the year in a relevant way. When the pandemic started, I urged our pastoral staff to be in service. In May, I wrote a pastoral letter in solidarity with all the members of the Management Team:Oser la proximite (Dare to get close). In this letter, I was inviting our pastoral staff to reread everything they had experienced in the first months of the pandemic; what they saw, what they heard, what they understood, but above all what they remember and how these experiences will transform our ministry. The theme of this year is Oser la proximite, autrement… (Dare to get close, differently…) How to do our ministry differently; how to get out of our usual structures to meet others. Specifically, how to join community networks; how to get close to people and in specific the most vulnerable, the most fragile. How to reinvent all our means of communication. With the Management Team, I have chosen three areas that we will focus on this year. The whole communication block: can we learn toreach all the diocesans? Are we relevant to join and work with the community networks? The second pole is the pastoral care of the most vulnerable people: the sick, the elderly, the young, the poor, the destitute, the immigrants. Finally, the third pole: to be able to listen to the Word of God; how the Word of God comes to reinvigorate our actions. Let us remember that our primary mission, as Church, is to humanize the world in the light of the Word of God! We also realized that our pastoral staff, like all our diocesans, are more vulnerable. This pandemic is causing some stress for many of our staff. How to be more attentive to support one another.I expect and hope from our pastoral staff and from all the baptized that we learn something from this time of the pandemic. That we listen better to people, being able to discern and becoming better bearers of hope; to be able to take the road and to create new paths. I am asking to all of us, what I try to live myself, to have some audacity: the audacity of the Gospel. What Pope Francis is asking is for us to get out of our comfort zones to meet people where they are. To be a Church on the outskirts, a Church on the way out! This is what I want and what I expect from us for the next year.

“Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”~ Luke 10:37 ~

Luke 10:25-37The problem with any parable or public statement is that after it is received – with varying degrees of deference or politeness – is that it gets shelved. The history of Christianity is, sadly, all too often an account of how the story of the Good Samaritan is overlooked or simply ignored. In writing Fratelli Tutti, with what amounts to its call to a new global order based on compassion, justice and the inclusion of the marginalised, I fear the same will happen.Though he eloquently speaks the language of political philosophy and political theory, will the politicians listen to Francis? (I am tempted to say: will they even bother to seek out this document and read it?) While theologians and philosophers will probably read it, comment on it and critique it, will clergy and religious leaders do the same? Will the latter, particularly those obsessed with details of worship or personal ethics try to see how Francis is calling us to a deeper living of the essentials of faith – or will they simply shelve it among other church documents gathering dust? And what will we do about it?It is, after all, about us – whatever our station in life. The call to a new life based on compassion and ‘political love’ goes out to everyone on the planet. Just as everyone has a responsibility to care for our common home, the Earth (the subject of Francis’ Laudato Si’), so too we have responsibility for our neighbour. This may be most significant for those who have more access to power – politicians, professionals, public intellectuals, and religious leaders – but it applies to everyone. Since the principles in Fratelli are universal – central to all faiths and to the best values of secular humanism alike – they can be appropriated by everyone. If ordinary people everywhere embraced the call to political love and resolutely, through how they voted (indeed, by voting) and how they called out the hatemongers that infest our social media, we’d already make a start.Let us make a start.Lord, in answer to the lawyer’s question ‘Who is my neighbour?’ let us have the courage to answer: “Everyone .Everything in Creation”. Give us the courage to go that step further, to go and do likewise. Amen.Reflection prepared by the Jesuit Institute (@jesuitinstitute)

The COVID-19 pandemic has put our one human family in crisis. It is estimated that: 265 million people could face starvation by the end of 2020. The economic fallout from COVID could push an additional half a billion

people into poverty. Only 1 in 5 people in low-income countries are covered by safety net

programmesAnd it is the most vulnerable and marginalized, such refugees, women and Indigenous Peoples, who will disproportionately suffer the worst impacts. We are at critical juncture for our common home. We must come together to support a global recovery to the pandemic that moves us towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all.GIVE NOW https://www.devp.org/en/campaign/recoveringtogether
