‘We can’t stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.’

It’s time to take a breath break. It’s time to learn to surf the waves of change.

As we continue to be buffered by the COVID pandemic, we have also been given the opportunity to develop our spiritual life, to learn how to meditate and commune with God like a monk, a saint or a mystic. Creation is holding its breath, waiting for us to become…monks, saints, and mystics...who have learned throughout the centuries to take breaks throughout their busy day: breaks of devotion to meditate, and just be. The essence of contemplation is learning to live eternal life here and now, to abide in Christ, to walk in the Spirit, to create with our Creator.

Sacred Heart

Do you know a family who would like their daughter to study at Sacred Heart Girls’ College but they live too far away to travel on a daily basis?

We offer private boarding during term time with options for five to seven days a week available with welcoming, police-vetted families who are experienced in hosting and caring for our students.

For more information please contact Steph Mildon, our Homestay Coordinator, [email protected]

FOOD DRIVE

Our annual Food Drive is underway. St Vincent de Paul is in desperate need of any non-perishable food items due to the lack of donations received to date this year. COVID-19 has put a particular strain on many families due to a lower income and some losing jobs. This means there are more people in need of SVDP's support than ever. Items are to be brought to CCM's throughout the week and taken to T04 at the end of each week. There are House points to be earned! The last day to contribute is Friday 11th September. We look forward to your donation.

Some ideas of what to donate: tea, coffee, canned fruit, breakfast cereals, baking ingredients, toothbrushes, deodorant, toothpaste, laundry detergent, soap.

FOOD TECHNOLOGY

The Year 9's have been baking cupcakes for St Vincent de Paul in Frankton. There are many people in our community who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19. Because of this, many more people have been showing up for food and support. These cupcakes will bring people joy in their times of struggle. We have been basing our cupcakes on our heritage and different cultures. Some themes are Irish, Swiss, Kiwiana, Samoan, and Australian.

Senior Parent Teacher Meetings

Following the Government COVID 19 announcement that we are remaining at Level 2 until the 6th September and in the interest of safety of all, we have made the decision to postpone the Senior Parent Teacher Meetings scheduled for Tuesday 1st September. On this day students will still finish at 1.05pm as previously communicated. During the afternoon, staff will engage in professional learning.

Senior Parent Teacher Meetings will now be on Tuesday 22nd September, 2pm-6pm and school will finish at 1.05pm. Booking information will be sent out closer to the date.

In the interim, if you have any questions about your daughter’s learning or progress toward NCEA in a particular subject area please contact her Teacher to make a time for a telephone conversation. If you have any other concerns please contact your daughter’s CCM companion.

Senior 2021 Subject Choices

Next Year’s Year 11-13 students are required to submit subject choices by Friday 4th September. They will submit their choices on-line using SchoolPoint this year. All details have been emailed to them.

CURRICULUM NEWSDRAMA

Our year 10 and year 11 Drama students were fortunate to take part in a workshop run by professional theatre maker Cian Parker. Cian had just finished touring nationally her solo sell out show of Sorry For Your Loss. It was fantastic to have an inspiring young woman come and teach our students practical performance skills and develop ensemble. Students will now go on to study her show for upcoming exams.

Our year 12 and 13 Drama students took part in a specialised voice workshop run by local professional voice coach, Scot Hall. Scot was able to help these students explore their vocal range in ways they never thought possible. Students will be applying these new skills to scripted work which will be performed at the end of term.

SPORTS FEES OUTSTANDINGOUR SENIOR LEADERS

All smiling at the thought of our new Atrium, due to open soon!

GATEWAY PLACEMENT

Here is an example of some of the great opportunities our students get through the support of our local businesses.

A big thank you to Jess and the team at Synergy Hair, Chartwell for providing Brodi Williams with a Gateway placement. Brodi learnt how to wash, massage and blow wave a client's hair. She interacted and engaged with customers, practised blow waving, straightening and applying colour to mannikins and did a stock take for the retail store. The best experience is hands on and Synergy Hair certainly provided this to Brodi.

All sports fees are expected to be paid in full once invoiced, unless prior arrangement has been made with the Accounts office.

If you have outstanding sports fees and no payment plan in place, these should be paid in full by 4 September 2020.

Fees must be paid before enrolling in sport next term and next season, to ensure your daughter can continue to participate.

The Accounts office is open from 9am-3pm daily, Ext 2829.
