The Lessons

Lamentations 3:22–26, 31–33

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord. For the Lord will not reject forever. Although he causes grief, he will have compassion according to the abundance of his steadfast love; for he does not willingly afflict or grieve anyone.

Prayer of the Patron of the Guild of All SoulsO Most Merciful God, we earnestly ask for your mercy, that as we venerate St. Michael, your most blessed Archangel, as the Patron of this Guild, so our prayers may be presented to you by his hand; and that as you have set upon him a crown of holy perfection, so you would grant us pardon and forgiveness of all our sins, and when we finish our earthly pilgrimage, would admit us to the joys of Paradise, to praise you there with all your Holy Angels and Saints, for ever and ever.
