Immediately following that meeting, we held another meeting to discuss what needs to be done to improve participation in Assembly events. There were many items presented for consideration, and I sent an email to all on our Assembly mailing list outlining those suggestions. I also discussed them at more length at the Assembly meeting on January 28. The one item that I intend to initiate as soon as possible is the one to assign two mentors to each new Sir Knight; one will be from his home Council and the other an active member from one of the other four Councils in the Assembly. The purpose of the mentors will be to help remind the new members of our meetings, and to work with them on understanding the reasons for our Fund Raising and Social events. We held our annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at St. Mark. Sir Knights Jim Rizzo, Pat Haney, and John Vasquez co- chaired the event. As with all events, we could have used additional help from the Assembly members, but according to Jim, we did OK as far as proceeds are concerned. The spaghetti sauce was exceptional, and those who were unable to attend missed something really special. All leftovers were taken to the fire station across the street from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and were greatly appreciated. We are hoping to increase the membership of our Assembly at the Spring Exemplification, which will take place on the weekend of April 13, 2013, in Palestine, TX. That means in order to have applications read prior to that weekend, we must have all paperwork, including Form 4s, reservation forms, and checks submitted no later than the March 25 th meeting. I have the paperwork for the Exemplification and will send it out to all. The Form 4s will have to be picked up at the next Assembly meeting as that form cannot be sent via email. Charting the Waters Brothers,

We held our semi-annual planning meeting on

Saturday, January 12, 2013, as scheduled.

Immediately following that meeting, we held

another meeting to discuss what needs to be done to

improve participation in Assembly events. There

were many items presented for consideration, and I

sent an email to all on our Assembly mailing list

outlining those suggestions. I also discussed them at more length at the

Assembly meeting on January 28. The one item that I intend to initiate

as soon as possible is the one to assign two mentors to each new Sir

Knight; one will be from his home Council and the other an active

member from one of the other four Councils in the Assembly. The

purpose of the mentors will be to help remind the new members of our

meetings, and to work with them on understanding the reasons for our

Fund Raising and Social events.

We held our annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, February 2, 2013, at

St. Mark. Sir Knights Jim Rizzo, Pat Haney, and John Vasquez co-

chaired the event. As with all events, we could have used additional

help from the Assembly members, but according to Jim, we did OK as

far as proceeds are concerned. The spaghetti sauce was exceptional, and

those who were unable to attend missed something really special. All

leftovers were taken to the fire station across the street from St.

Elizabeth Ann Seton and were greatly appreciated.

We are hoping to increase the membership of our Assembly at the

Spring Exemplification, which will take place on the weekend of April

13, 2013, in Palestine, TX. That means in order to have applications

read prior to that weekend, we must have all paperwork, including Form

4s, reservation forms, and checks submitted no later than the March 25th

meeting. I have the paperwork for the Exemplification and will send it

out to all. The Form 4s will have to be picked up at the next Assembly

meeting as that form cannot be sent via email.

The Faithful Admiral or I will visit each Council supported by our Assembly, so that all

3rd Degree Knights have the opportunity to join us. I have sent the necessary forms (minus

the Form 4) to all 3rd Degree Knights in the Councils served by our Assembly. The re-

quirement that a man be a member of the Knights for six months prior to applying for the

4th Degree was dropped at the November 2012 K of C Board Meeting. Therefore, you can

recruit any 3rd Degree member in good standing, regardless of his time with the Knights.

We will hold our annual “Steak Night” at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Center on Sat-

urday, March 23 beginning at 4:30 p.m. SK Stan Tax has volunteered to chair the event

and could use some help beginning at 1:30 that afternoon. Please remember that our wives

are invited, and that the Assembly will provide the baked potatoes and all the trimmings

and paper goods. Each member should bring their steaks or whatever they want to eat,

their drinks, and either a salad or dessert to pass. I would suggest bringing your own sil-

verware, including steak knives. This event will replace most of our March meeting. The

only part of the meeting that we will hold is the approval of applications for new Assembly

members. Those documents must be approved no later than March 31 in order to be sent to

the District Comptroller on time.

The Assembly has, in conjunction with Council 6065, purchased a new American flag, fi-

nial and stand for use in McGivney Hall. The old flag had several holes in it and needed to

be replaced.

It is that time of year when we must develop the slate of officers for the upcoming fraternal

year. See the article for Officer Responsibilities Page 5 of the Discoverer, and advise one

of the Faithful Trustees (SK Bill Fox, SK Chuck Neubecker, SK Dick Sisler) if you are in-

terested in running for an office. Election will be in May with installation in June in con-

junction with the Fr. McGivney Assembly. More information on the installation events

will be disseminated as soon as they become available.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, February 25, 2013, at 7:30 p.m. in McGivney Hall.

COLOR CORPS COMMANDER’S REPORT

The big Color Corps (CC) event in January was the

40th Anniversary Roe v. Wade Memorial Mass at

the Cathedral. As usual, there was a very large

crowd, and Color Corps assistance is needed for

several aspects of the Program. There were 37 CC

members in attendance, and 10 of those were from

Assembly #2266. 27% is an excellent number, and

I thank those who participated in the Mass, as altar

guards, and as escorts for the Communion minis-

ters. I also want to thank those CC members that

took the time and put forth the effort to join the Pro

-Life March to the courthouse.

We have very few Color Corps events scheduled for February and March. They are as fol-

lows:

February 16, Council 6065’s Corporate Communion at St. Mark’s at the 5:30 PM

Mass. It will be followed by the Wives’ Appreciation Dinner, and more details

will be provided.

March 9, the Bishop’s 5th Annual K of C Corporate Communion at the Cathedral at

the 10:00 AM Mass. This Mass is usually later in March, closer to our March 29

Founder’s Day, but we have to work with the Bishop’s very busy schedule.

We’ve got a pretty easy CC Schedule so far this year, but things can change in a hurry, so

try to keep a clean tuxedo shirt available at all times. Just pray that those changes aren’t

funeral services.

SK John Martens, GK of the Prince of Peace Council, has recently bought one of the cere-

monial-type swords that were advertised last month, and he plans to get the rest of his rega-

lia soon. John, welcome to the Color Corps, and we look forward to having you on the

Team.

As always, the invitation to join the Color Corps is open to all of our Assembly mem-

bers who may be interested. If you’d like to give the Color Corps a try before making a

commitment, please contact one of us listed below. We can get you involved without a

formal practice, and we have “loaner regalia,” so you can give it a try before becoming a

full-fledged member. You can call or send me an e-mail to [email protected], or

contact Jim or Paul at the numbers listed below. Please consider joining this highly vis-

ible arm of the Knights of Columbus. I think you would find it enjoyable, and the ca-

maraderie is great! Remember, Color Corps regalia make a great birthday present. I got

my first regalia for Christmas, and my birthday, which is in January. We will plan to

have a Color Corps practice after the Spring Exemplification on April 13 in Palestine,

TX.

On behalf of my Deputy Color Corps Commanders (DCCCs) listed below, please know

that it is our pleasure and honor to serve you. We look forward to having you on the

Color Corps Team.

COLOR CORPS COMMANDER’S REPORT (Cont’d)

On Saturday February 2nd, two members of our Assembly were ordinated to the Per-

manent Deaconate. They are SK Richard Nelson of Council 1350 and SK Bob Bono-

mi of Council 11716. Bob is also a member of our Color Corps. When you see either

of these Sir Knights congratulate them on their ordination.

SPAGHETTI DINNER

On February 2, the Assembly hosted a spaghetti dinner in the St. Mark Cafetorium. The head

cook was none other than our own inimitable Jim Rizzo who prepared his world famous spa-

ghetti sauce. He was ably assisted in the cooking and other kitchen chores by Pat and Collin

Haney, Bob Weaver, Mike Greene, Bob Wise and Greg and Tanya Olson. Jim also managed

the setup of the dining area and the serving line with the help of Mike Greene. Members of

the St. Mark Youth Group were recruited by John Vasquez and they, along with David Haney

from the Assembly, manned the line and kept up with the demands of the patrons. Bob Wise

and Bob Weaver and their wives sold the tickets. Bill Ptacek, Al Schneider, Jim Sammons

and a few others manned the cleanup crew. The team started cooking and other preparations

shortly after 1:30 p.m. and the doors were locked after cleanup at about 10:30 so it was a long

day for all involved.

The leftover spaghetti, sauce, Italian sausage, meatballs, etc. was taken to the Plano Fire De-

partment on Spring Creek Parkway across from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton parish where it was

enthusiastically accepted.

The Assembly looks forward to another spaghetti dinner in the future but will need additional

assistance from the Assembly members so that the work isn’t focused on such a small number

of people.

PRO-LIFE MEMORIAL MASS & MARCH

On January 19th the 40th Anniversary Roe v. Wade Memorial Mass was held at the Cathedral. There was a very

large crowd, and Color Corps assistance is needed for several aspects of the Program. There were 37 CC mem-

bers in attendance including 10 of those were from our Assembly. They participated in the Mass, as altar guards,

as escorts for the Communion ministers and the Pro-Life March to the courthouse.

LUNCH AT FISHER HOUSE

On January 31st several Sir Knights, all from Council 13520 prepared a lunch of chicken

Alfredo with pasta, salad and dessert for the Veterans who were living temporally at the

Fisher House or families of those Vets at the Dallas VA Hospital. The SK involved are

Stan Tax, our head chef, Al Steindorf, John Meyers and his wife Barb, Ron Schott. Also

helping were former member Len Kiefel and Vic Weis from Council 13520. Our Fisher

House Chairman, SK Ed Munno was called to Chicago to be with his mother so he was not

able to be there for this quarters visit.
