3foundationCHALDEANFOUNDATION.ORG

Update Fall 2018The Chaldean Community Foundation moves forward with the development of a 130-unit apartment building with 8,000 square feet of commercial space at 43700 Van Dyke, located on Van Dyke and 19 1/2 Mile Road. In the past few months we have been able to get approval for the site from MDEQ. CCF has met with the Michigan State Housing Development Author-ity Director and his leadership team to build a capital stack of loan, incentive, gap financing and other sources to pay for the estimated $25,000,000 development.

We are working with the City of Sterling Heights to zone the land as a Planned Unit De-velopment (PUD) and look forward to beginning work at the site in the spring of 2019. CCF

Board of Directors and Housing Committee have completed the process to select a Property Man-ager: Fourmidable Management Company, and a General Contractor: G. Fisher Construction.

USCIS Grant AwardThe U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), as part of the Fiscal Year 2018 Citizen-ship and Assimilation Grant Program, has awarded the Chaldean Community Foundation (CCF) a grant in the amount of $250,000. Chaldean Com-munity Foundation was one of four organizations to receive funding for the Refugee and Asylee Assimilation Program (RAAP) through USCIS.

Through this grant program, CCF gained resources to build community capacity to support Legal Permanent Residents, who were resettled as refugees or granted asylum, with all aspects of civic, linguistic, economic, cultural, and institutional assimilation while resettling in the United States, impacting their progress toward full civic assimilation.

The primary focus of the Refugee and Asylee Assimilation Program is to provide individu-alized programming to lawful permanent res-idents (LPRs), who entered the United States under the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP) or were granted asylum, to attain the skills and knowledge required for successful citizenship and to foster a sense of belonging and attachment to the United States. This grant strives to promote long-term assimilation of those LPRs who have identified naturalization as a goal yet may need additional information and instruction services to attain it.

Van Dyke Apartments

VisitorsThe incoming Iraqi Consul General, Mr. Adnan Almaajoon, together with the outgoing Consulate Dr. Mustafa Ahmad Mustafa visited the Chaldean Community Foundation on September 19, 2018 and met with CCF staff. “We welcome the opportunity to work together with the Chaldean Community Foundation on many issues. We recognize your value and strength in the community, and I made a point to make the Foundation visit my first stop after arriving in Michigan. Our doors are open for the community” said Mr. Almaajoon.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Tim Slater and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Downey were hosted by the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce and Chaldean Com-munity Foundation on Monday, September 10, 2018. The CCF also hosted a law enforcement career night in collaboration with the Sterling Heights Police Department, Michigan State Police and the FBI on November 15, 2018.

Client TestimonialLina H. a refugee, left Iraq a few years ago after her husband was kidnapped on his way to work, never to be found or heard from again. After speaking with the police department and search-ing for her husband in hospitals, government of-fices, and his place of work with no success, she and her family began to receive threats on their lives. She gathered her children and fled Iraq out of fear, seeking safe refuge in America.

A few years have passed since Lina entered the United States, and throughout those years she has come to the Chaldean Community Foundation seeking compassion and assistance to help stabilize her life in America as a single mother. “I am so happy and pleased and wish to thank the Chaldean Community Foundation for the wonderful services it provided for me and many other members in the community. They helped me financially, made my children

happy and assisted with a car loan that I plan to pay back in the near future. I am grateful for the entire Foundation staff. “

You, too, can become more involved in help-ing people like Lina live a successful life in the United States by going to https://www.chaldean-foundation.org/donate and making a tax-deduct-ible donation that will help the 31,000 individ-uals in need we serve each year. Give us a call at 586-722-7253. Ways to get involved include hosting a parlor event at your home where guests can come and hear about the mission of CCF, scheduling a tour and inviting a friend to see firsthand the important work that takes place at CCF, or volunteering your time at our many events that assist those with disabilities.

To learn more about our mission, go to www.chaldeanfoundation.org or follow us on Facebook @ chaldeanfoundation and Instagram @chaldeancommunityfoundation.

Building ExpansionThe City of Sterling Heights has approved the new zoning and plan for the 18,000 square foot expansion of the CCF Offices. The Board of Directors also approved the hiring of Jonna Companies as the Construction Manager. The groundbreaking will be in the spring of 2019 with a ribbon-cutting anticipated in late 2019. CCF was awarded a $500,000 grant for the expansion, thanks to Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
