Spotlightin theThis Week’s BUSINESS
As Okeechobee Christian Acad-emy begins 2011/2012, their aim
is to move onward and upward. They have been ministering to children since 1976 preparing them education-ally, and spiritually. “It is our purpose and privilege to support area churches and parents in raising up the next gen-eration to make an impact and grow into Christian leaders,” said Nick Reynolds, the school’s Principal.
“Now is not the time to lower stan-dards, but to raise them,” said Reyn-olds. OCA works diligently to pro-vide an environment that is safe, nurturing, loving, challenging, fun and life altering. The teacher to stu-dent ratio average of 1 to 14 assures individualized attention and instruc-tion. ABeka curriculum is used in the classroom to help direct learning and to interweave the person of Christ around each subject.
“What happens in a classroom once the door shuts between a teacher and
his/her students makes the difference between a good school and a great school,” said Reynolds. “Our teach-ers are thoroughly qualified, referred by their personal pastor, proven in the community and church and have a passion for teaching children.”
The students at OCA (PK3-12) are given precious opportunities to learn about this world and to develop a re-lationship with Christ. In addition to the foundational curricula OCA also offers weekly chapel, P.E., En-richment, 4-H, Ag class for middle schoolers and Financial Foundations
for high schoolers. “Our goal,” said Reynolds, “is to put forth a collabora-tive effort between teachers, adminis-tration, parents and students to raise individual standards, which leads to a healthier and more impacting school.”
OCA is an active member of Asso-ciation of Christian Schools Interna-tional and Florida Coalition of Chris-tian Private Schools Association. The 2011 school year begins August 22nd. Applications are now being accepted, but space is limited. Inquiries can be made at 701 S. Parrott Avenue or call (863)763-3072.

Lake OkeechobeeFishing Report
CAPTAIN MIKE SHELLENwww.OkeechobeeBassFishing.com
863-357-0892
Brought to you by
As we move into the dog days of sum-mer fishing continues to be nearly as hot as the weather. Blue gill are still
being caught in the lake as well as the local canals and the Kissimmee River. Crickets and grass shrimp fished under a bobber will work as well as red worms fished on the bottom. Around the full moon phases, both new and full moon, the fish can be caught near the ca-nal banks or in the shallow water in the lake.
Bass fishing is still very good, with anglers catching big numbers of bass daily. Shiners and artificial baits will both work. Top water baits are still performing well during the very early morning hours. Once the sun gets well into the sky crank baits, flukes, senkos and worms will all result in hook ups. The water is getting higher very slowly, making us won-der if we are going to reach a desirable level for the upcoming season. We still have sever-
al months of hurricane season left and things can change quickly. The lake is very healthy right now and a slow rise in the water is much preferred over a quick deluge into the lake. Take your kids fishing. They will remember it forever.
