The lake has risen approximately six inches, a level that affords anglers a chance to get close to the grass lines again. The water is still very

low and running in the lake can be dangerous, but if done carefully the rewards can be huge. Artificial baits are providing all of the action an angler can want. The Kissimmee River and the lake are both providing good catch rates, although the Kissimmee is providing most of the large bass that are being caught at this time.

Top water baits are working at first light and can last an hour or more some mornings; each day varies. Once the top-water bite ends, skinny dippers, flukes and sen-kos will fit the bill to continue catching bass for the rest of the morning. When the local canals and river are flowing schooling fish can be found, lipless crank-baits such as a chrome with black back rattle trap has worked for years on Lake Okeechobee and still does in the right situation.

When you find bass actively feeding on top, stay as far away as you can so you will not spook the fish. At times you can spook the bass enough that they will

either go down or disappear entirely.

Blue gill fishing is still very good in the lake and the local canals. Either grass shrimp or crickets will work.
