    Insert the battery by putting in the markedside rst, with the B marks toward thebattery lock knob.Damage to the battery exterior (scratches,etc.) may produce heat or an explosion.

    Insert the battery while sliding the batterylock knob in the direction of the arrow.

    Slide the battery lock knob in the directionof the arrow to unlock, and then remove thebattery.

    When removing the battery or card, be sureto turn off the camera before opening or closing the battery/card/connector cover.

    When using the camera, be sure to closethe battery/card/connector cover.

    Battery charge and camera setup

    Connect the camera to the computer to chargethe battery and setup the camera.

    System requirementsWindows XP (SP2 or later)/Windows Vista/Windows 7

    Do not insert SD/SDHC memory cardsbefore the camera setup.

    Do not format the internal memory until thecamera setup is complete. Doing so willerase the camera instruction manual andthe PC software (ib) data that are stored onthe internal memory.

    Check that your computer meets thefollowing system requirements:Windows XP (SP2 or later)/Windows Vista/Windows 7

    Refer to the PC software (ib) help guide for details on how to use the PC software (ib).

    2 Select and execute OLYMPUSCamera Initialization, which is

    displayed on the computer screenwhen the camera is recognized bythe computer.

    If nothing is displayed on the camera screeneven after connecting the camera to thecomputer, the battery may be exhausted.Leave the camera connected to thecomputer until the battery has charged, thendisconnect and reconnect the camera.

    Even if a computer has USB ports, proper operation is not guaranteed in the following

    cases:Computers with USB ports installed using anexpansion card, etc.

    Computers without a factory-installed OS andhome-built computers

    Double-click the icon for the camera drive(Removable Disk), and then executeSetup. exe to start the camera setup.

    3 Follow the instructions on thecomputer screen and setup thecamera.

    1 Connect the camera to thecomputer.

    When connecting the camera to thecomputer via USB cable, face the lensdownward.

    Charging the battery

    When the camera is connected to thecomputer, the battery in the camera will becharged.

    When charging, the indicator lamp light. Whencharging is complete, the indicator lamp will turnoff.

    If the indicator lamp does not light, thecamera may be incorrectly connected, or the battery, camera, computer or USB cablemay not be functioning correctly.

    Camera setupSet the camera date and time, time zoneand display language automatically; installthe camera instruction manual and PCsoftware (ib).

    Charging the battery with the included USB-AC adapter

    The included USB-AC adapter (F-2AC)(hereafter referred as AC adapter) hasbeen designed to be used for charging

    and playback. Make sure that shootingis not being used while the AC adapter isconnected to the camera.

    The battery is not fully charged atshipment. Before use, be sure to chargethe battery until the indicator lamp turns off (STYLUS TOUGH-8010/ TOUGH-8010,STYLUS TOUGH-6020/ TOUGH-6020:up to 3 hours, STYLUS TOUGH-3000/

    TOUGH-3000: up to 2.5 hours).

    If the indicator lamp does not light, the ACadapter is not connected to the cameracorrectly, or the battery, camera, or ACadapter may be broken.

    For details on the battery and the ACadapter, see Battery, USB-AC adapter (included), Charger (sold separately)(p. 63).

    Battery can be charged by connectingthe camera to the computer. However,when charging with the system other thanWindows XP (SP2 or later)/Windows Vista/

    Windows 7, charging takes much time.

    1 Press the n button to turn onthe camera.

    The language for the menu and error messagesdisplayed on the monitor is adjustable.

    Although the camera can store images ininternal memory, SD/SDHC memory cards(sold separately) can be also used to storepictures.

    Selecting the ISO sensitivity

    Abbreviation for the InternationalOrganization for Standardization. ISOstandards specify the sensitivity for digitalcameras and lm, thus codes such as ISO

    100 are used to represent sensitivity.In the ISO setting, although smaller valuesresult in less sensitivity, sharp images canbe taken under fully lit conditions. Larger values result in higher sensitivity, andimages can be taken at fast shutter speedseven under low light conditions. However,high sensitivity introduces noise into theresulting picture, which may give it a grainyappearance.

    Using the LED illuminator

    In a dark location, the LED illuminator canbe used as an auxiliary light to see things or compose shots.

    1 Set [LED ILLUMINATOR] (p. 52) to[ON].

    2 Press and hold F down until theLED illuminator lights up.

    If you perform an operation when the LEDilluminator is on, it will illuminate up to approx. 90seconds.

    The LED illuminator turns off if no operationis performed for approx. 30 seconds.

    Even when the cameras power is turnedoff, if F is pressed until the LED illuminator lights up, it lights for 30 seconds.

    When the camera is connected to the computer or other device via USB cable, do not connect theHDMI cable to the camera.

    To operate images with the TV remote control

    1 Set [HDMI CONTROL] to [ON], and turn off the camera.2 Connect the camera and TV with an HDMI cable. Connection via HDMI cable (p. 49)

    3 First turn on the TV, and then turn on the camera.Operate by following the operation guide that is displayed on the TV.

    With some TVs, operations cannot be performed with the TV remote control even though theoperation guide is displayed on the screen.

    If operations cannot be performed with the TV remote control, set [HDMI CONTROL] to [OFF] andoperate using the camera.
