RED EYE REDUCING FLASH

Significantly reduces thephenomenon of "red-eye"(when a subject's eyesappear red in flashphotography).

In the flash mode, the camerawill fire a series of low-power pre-flashes before the regular flash.

Red-eye reduction may notbe effective when thesubject:

Is not looking at the flash fromthe right front. Is not watching the pre-flashes.Is too far from the camera.

29

Page 30: Olympus superzoom 80's

The effectiveness of red-eyereduction varies depending onthe individual characteristics ofsubjects.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to hold thecamera still until the shutterreleases. It takes approximatelyone second.

30

Page 31: Olympus superzoom 80's

OFF (FLASH OVERRIDE)

When you don't want theflash to fire even in the darkor when you want to shootsuch subjects as fireworks.

Use this mode in situationswhere flash photography is notdesired or is prohibited or intwilight or night scenes.

Note: Since a slow shutter speed(down to 1 second) isautomatically selected in low-light situations, the use of atripod is recommended. Closingthe lens barrier restores the AutoFlash mode.

31

Page 32: Olympus superzoom 80's

32

When you want the flash tofire for each shot.

The flash fires regardless ofavailable light. Use this mode tocompensate for a shadow caston the subject's face (such asthe shadow of a tree). It is alsoused when shooting in backlitconditions or under artificiallighting (such as fluorescentlight). Use this mode within theflash working range (p. 28).Closing the lens barrier restoresthe Auto Flash mode.
