As you can observe we have hit the ground running in an effort to complete this project by late fall. If you voted by proxy and were not present at the stockholders’ meeting held on June 13, please contact Moe with any questions that you might have regarding this project. One of the biggest issues revealed by the approval process was the fact that not all members of the Club were eligible to vote for or against this major capital project. According to the by-laws as currently written, only stockholders may vote. At the June Board meeting, we commissioned several members of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee, chaired by Alan Diamonstein, to address this issue. Approval of future capital projects should be done in a fair and equitable manner that allows input from all Club members in the process. If you have any questions about this, please contact Moe, Alan Diamonstein or me for more information. It has been feeling a lot like summer lately, and the golf course is responding. Thank you for parti- cipating in the Club survey. It was very helpful. All your comments and suggestions were shared with department heads. Comments related to Club operation were addressed and the suggestions related to capital improvement will be shared with the Long Range Planning Committee. I hope you are enjoying the summer at your Club. Speaking of summer, it is the perfect time for you to encourage a friend or family member to join the Club. We have a great membership program going on right now for the month of July. Contact Mem-bership Director Michelle Herbst for more details. If you have not joined the Huntington Society yet, now is a

good time to give back to JRCC. If you would like more information, please contact the accounting office for more details. Think of the Club when planning a busi-

ness or social function at the club-house or off premises catering. Management will accommodate your needs any way possible. Please observe the dress code when you are in the clubhouse and remember that T-shirts, hats, bathing suits, cover-ups and bare feet are not allowed. Please super-vise your children when they are on the Club property. Also, please observe the 15 mph speed limit when you enter or exit the Club. Have a great summer. Enjoy your Club.

A Note from the ProJeremy Franks, PGA

The most important part of the success of golf at JRCC is your participation in the tourna-ments and golf programs from you, the members. We wanted to take this month to recognize some of the winners from our spring tour-naments and let you know that July is jammed packed with great events for our golfing members. July starts off with the very popular One-Day Member-Guest, July 1, followed by the Flag Tour-nament on Independence Day. The Twilight Member-Guest will be played on Sunday, July 17, and our WGA Ladies’ Member-Mem-ber is on July 25. James River is hosting the prestigious VSGA Women’s Amateur Championship July 18-22. Please come out and support these ladies as they play our course. If anyone is interested in volunteering to be a spotter or scorer for the event, please contact me directly. Come show your pride for our great Club!

The pool is open and with it the kids of JRCC are out in full force! Junior Golf is in full swing as well this month. The JRCC Junior Golf Team, “The Eagles,” will be playing in matches against clubs in the area and will be continuing with team practice on Saturday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. It is not too late to be a part of the team. Contact Chris Dillow in the golf shop if you are interested. The second Junior Camp of the season is July 19 – 22 from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. The Junior Club Cham-pionship is July 27 – 28 and the Family Golf Championship is Sat-urday, July 30. The Family Golf Championship is comprised of any combination of family members in a two-person team, Captain’s Choice. There will be a 9-hole and 18-hole division followed by a family dinner in the Golf Museum.

Our Member-Guest Tourna-ment was a huge hit on Friday, May 20, even with all the maneuvering to beat the rain washout on the original Sat-urday date. Many thanks go to Joan Verhoef, Liz Warters, Patti Brown-Whitlock and Kathryn Cutler for all their hard work. We had a blast. This Friday one-day tournament was such a great format we highly recommend it for future tournaments. It enables both working and non-working women golfers to participate. The winners are listed in the sidebar. The Season Long Match Play has begun. Watch for the results of the teams (see below) through-out the year. It’s not too late—if you have someone you would like to pair up with, call the pro shop, 596-3112. The sun is out and we are playing at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays. If the weather looks iffy, check

with the pro shop or our Blogsite: http://jrccwomensgolf.blogspot.com/ for the latest updates. Participation in the monthly socials is way down (just about nonexistent). We are suspending them until October where we will pick them up again when summer competing activities are down. Nine and Wine is still being offered on Thursday evenings. Check the Blogsite for our latest updates. Remember that anyone who would like to play golf on Satur-day is invited to participate in the Women’s Blitz at 11:00 a.m. Just call the pro shop to let them know you will be playing. One last item—we request that if anyone has news of any of our members who are ill, please let one of our Board members know. It allows us to reach out to them to let them know we are thinking of them and wish them the best!

I want to take this opportu-nity to give an update on the status of our Bermuda grass, in particular, the shady holes. The fairways on some of the shadier holes have experienced some winter kill, particularly in the heavy shade and wet areas. With the erratic spring this year (green up in March, frost again in May, and cooler temperatures throughout the first of June) we have a few areas that will need to be re-grassed.

The areas we sodded include #6, #14, #18, #9 and the prac-tice tee. Most of these areas would have grown back even-tually, but we did not want to wait another month for that to happen. Other areas are filling in rapidly and we should be 100% in a few weeks. Sunny fairways look awe- some and are playing great! Greens have recovered nicely from aeration and should be back in prime form next week.

The bunkers are another area of concern right now and we have ordered multiple truckloads of sand to add in the green side bunkers to help with the con-sistency. This is a short-term fix but will help to get us through until we can address the prob-lems with the bunker liner degrading and starting to fall.

Membership Committee Michael G. Archuleta, Chairman

Can you believe it’s already July? I’m sure everyone is thoroughly enjoying their summer! Now is a great time to help others learn about JRCC and join while the weather is still nice. To help us do that, your Board of Directors approved a summer promotion to help entice potential new members to join. This promotion runs through the end of July. If you know anyone who is looking to join our family and experience all that JRCC has to offer them, please reach out to them today. The limited time offer discounts the initiation as follows:v Active Athletic/ Social -

$5,000 (Does not include stock and capital

    contribution)v Junior Athletic/ Social -

    $3,000v Junior Junior Athletic/ Social -

$1,000 Along with enjoying our summer activities, we are start-ing to prepare for the winter months which now includes an indoor tennis program thanks to our recent member-ship approval! Michelle Herbst is already busy welcoming new tennis members. There are two options for tennis-only member-ship: annual or winter. Annual members are invited to play on

the indoor courts from October 15 – April 15. Although the new tennis-only members will have access to the tennis structure and courts only (no other Club amenities), they will be able to upgrade their membership to a full social or athletic membership anytime they choose. If they do upgrade their membership, their prior initiation fees will apply toward the upgraded member-ship. If you know someone who is looking for a tennis member-ship, have them contact Member-ship Director Michelle Herbst. All tennis members will go through the normal membership process including a 30-day posting, spon-sorship by two members, recom-mendation letters and meeting Board members. Last but not least, we were able to spend time at the CNU Setting Sail Orientation to give new CNU students and their parents some information on JRCC. We attended all four sessions and will continue with different receptions and open house events over the year. We have received such positive feedback from our CNU families on what an asset their member-ship has been for students and their families while traveling to CNU. Thank you all for supporting all of our goals in the membership department. As we continue to aim for our second year in a row of membership growth, we know we can’t do that without your support. See you around your Club!

MRS. MISSIE REED Our July Member of the Month is Mrs. Missie Reed. She was chosen for a variety of reasons since she serves JRCC in more than one capacity. Missie can be found volunteering her time with the House Committee and, most recently, offering her time and advice while working with the interior decorator. She helped with all the current upgrades that have been completed on the main level of the clubhouse. Last but not least, she is very active on the River Ratz Swim Team—helping the team work hard towards a successful season. Thank you, Mrs. Reed, for your dedication to JRCC and being part of the JRCC family.
