GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.

P: Presiding Minister A: Assisting Minister L: Lector C: Congregation

WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS The congregation stands.

CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS P: During the season of Lent we are called to return to the Lord with all our heart. Let us confess our sin and seek reconciliation with God and neighbor.

Silence for reflection and self-examination.

Merciful God, C: you sent Jesus Christ to save the lost. We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way. We fail in love, neglect justice, and ignore your truth. Have mercy on us and wash away our sin. Create in us clean hearts for the sake of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen. P: Behold, now is the acceptable time; now is the day of salvation. Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins, and bring us to everlasting life. C: Amen.

GATHERING HYMN We All Are One in Mission ELW #576

GREETING A: The grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. C: And also with you.

PRAYER OF THE DAY A: Holy One of mighty power, Your word is powerfully dangerous. Your word casts out demons. Your word heals incurable diseases. Your word devours empires. Your word transforms the fabric of the universe. C: Help us to stand in awe and fear of what your word is capable of doing. Give

us courage to speak your word and wisdom to hear it, for the sake of the one whose very whisper can demolish sin, Jesus Christ. Amen.

SONG OF PRAISE How Can I Keep From Singing Note-a-Bells

The congregation is seated.

WORD God speaks to us in scripture reading, preaching, and song.

PSALM 122

L: Psalm 122 will be read responsively by full verse.

1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” C: 2 Our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem.

4

L: 3 Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together. C: 4 That is where the tribes go up— the tribes of the Lord— to praise the name of the Lord according to the statute given to Israel. L: 5 There stand the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David. C: 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. L: 7 May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.” C: 8 For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “Peace be within you.” L: 9 For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your prosperity.

Please stand for the Gospel Acclamation.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION for LENT

LUKE 17:11-19

L: The Gospel according to Luke, the 17th chapter. C: Glory to you, O Lord. 11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed. 15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

5

17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine?18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?”19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

L: The Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to you, O Christ.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

APOSTLES’ CREED P: Living together in trust and hope we confess our faith.

C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE P: Lifting our voices and turning toward God, let us pray for the church, the earth, and all who are in need.

A brief silence.

God of Abraham and Sarah, God of all earth’s families, bless your church to be a blessing and bestow your grace to a hurting world. We lift up today our friends from our sister synods in Cameroon and Nicaragua. Help us to learn to be partners to the many in need. Teach us how to open our eyes and ears and hearts to those of other nations so that we can be your hands and feet for the other. Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great. A: O God, you love the entire cosmos. Help us to love all of the creatures and life within it. Give us a heart for people that live in other places, but yet yearn for the same things that we do. Help us to become givers for the other. Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great. P: O God, our help is in you. Keep the nations, their governments, and their people from all evil. Teach us to be a mission minded people. Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great.

7

A: O God, your promises ease our pain and sorrow. Grant comfort, healing, and joy to all who are in need, those who are our next door neighbors and our neighbors who live oceans away. Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great. P: O God, lead the people of American Lutheran in their Lenten journey toward faith, works of love, and prayer. Let all those gathered here be fed and nourished by your word. Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great. A: O God, we give thanks for the faithful departed who have joined your saints in light. Let their lives be guides to our own. Hear us, O God. C: Your mercy is great. P: Into your hands, merciful God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your steadfast love; through Christ our Lord. C: Amen.

SHARING THE PEACE A: The peace of the Lord be with you all. C: And also with you. A: Let us share God’s peace with one another.

GREAT THANKSGIVING P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Lift up your hearts. C: We lift them to the Lord. P: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. C: It is right to give our thanks and praise. EUCHARISTIC PRAYER P: Holy God, our living Water and our merciful Guide, together with rivers and

seas, wells and springs we bless and magnify you. You led your people Israel through the desert, and provided them water from the rock. We praise you for Christ, our Rock and our Water, who joined us in our desert, pouring out his life for the world.

WORDS OF INSTITUTION P: In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave

thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.

Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people. Do this for the remembrance of me.

For as often as we eat of this bread and drink of this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes. C: Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

9

LORD’S PRAYER P: Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach us to pray: C: Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

INVITATION TO COMMUNION P: Return to God with all your heart. C: Receive bread for the journey, drink for the desert. COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION
