Role of the Principal
Theprincipalisresponsibleforn makingdecisionsaboutstudentparticipation;n ensuringthatallaccommodations,specialprovisions,deferralsandexemptionsareprovidedandn documentingtherelevantinformationintheStudentDataCollection(SDC)systemaccordingtotheinstructionsinthisguide.

Definitions
Modifications:changestothecontentofthetest.Thesearenotpermitted,becausetheyaffectthevalidityandreliabilityofthetest.
Accommodations:changesinthewaythetestisadministeredorthewayinwhichastudentwithspecialeducationneedsrespondstoitscomponents.Thesedonotalterthecontentofthetestnoraffectvalidityorreliability.
Special Provisions:changestothesettingand/ortimingforwritingthetestforEnglishlanguagelearners.Thesedonotaffectthevalidityorreliabilityofthetest.
Deferrals:decisionstopostponethewritingofthetestuntilthefollowingyearforstudentswhoareworkingtowardanOntarioSecondarySchoolDiploma(OSSD).
Exemptions:decisionsforstudentswhoseIndividualEducationPlan(IEP)statestheyarenotworkingtowardanOSSD.

opportunitiestotakethetest.n Adeferralisnotconsideredanopportunitytowrite.Anopportunitytowritethetestmeansthestudenthas“putpentopaper.”n Astudent,attheprincipal’sdiscretion,mayenrolintheOSSLCbeforeheorshehashadasecondopportunitytowritethetest.n Testmaterialswillnotbeshippedfordeferredstudents.n Ifanadultstudentorparentdisagreeswiththeprincipal’sdecision,heorshemayappealtothesupervisoryofficerforafinaldecision.
