It was for two reasons - All students would be returning to school and because it was warmer than Saturday! The students have once again filled the school with their excitement too, and it was lovely to see so many smiling faces on Monday morning as I stood at the gates to welcome everyone back! The noise at break me also indicates to me that students are glad to be back to see their friends. Oh we did miss them! Thank you to the many parents and students who are saying goodbye at the gate and walking independently to the classrooms. It is amazing how independent the children have become! Once again it has been a team effort with parents doing a wonderful job at home with supervising the learning of your children and staff supervising the learning at school for the past five weeks. Now we can all get back into a roune again. We do encourage you to say good bye at the gate so that we limit the number of adults in the school grounds. The mornings work well however the aſternoons are sll rather busy with parents all coming at the one me. If you park we will walk the children out to the gates and monitor them unl we see you. This would help the congeson outside the classrooms. If you are insistent on coming into the school grounds, you must connue to pracce the social distancing rules within the school outside the classrooms and in the car park. Parents/Carers must not enter the classrooms. If you need to speak to the classroom teacher send an email or ask them to step outside. Term 2 Week 6 - Wednesday May 27 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

It was with great excitement that I woke on Monday morning. It was for two reasons - All students would be returning to school

and because it was warmer than Saturday! The students have once again filled the school with their excitement too, and it was

lovely to see so many smiling faces on Monday morning as I stood at the gates to welcome everyone back! The noise at break time

also indicates to me that students are glad to be back to see their friends. Oh we did miss them!

Thank you to the many parents and students who are saying goodbye at the gate and walking independently to the classrooms. It is

amazing how independent the children have become! Once again it has been a team effort with parents doing a wonderful job at

home with supervising the learning of your children and staff supervising the learning at school for the past five weeks. Now we

can all get back into a routine again.

We do encourage you to say good bye at the gate so that we limit the number of adults in the school grounds. The mornings work

well however the afternoons are still rather busy with parents all coming at the one time. If you park we will walk the children out

to the gates and monitor them until we see you. This would help the congestion outside the classrooms.

If you are insistent on coming into the school grounds, you must continue to

practice the social distancing rules within the school outside the classrooms

and in the car park. Parents/Carers must not enter the classrooms. If you

need to speak to the classroom teacher send an email or ask them to step

outside.

Remember adults must maintain a physical distance of 1.5 metres from each

other. Parents should not gather before or after school, in the car park, at

drop off and pick up time, outside classrooms or at the school gate.

Public Education Day – 28th May

Public Education is a public good. In schools we celebrate diversity, creativity, respect and the right of every child to access a high

quality education. On Public Education Day recognise and celebrate public education and acknowledge and thank our staff. They

do an amazing job!

Our Vision……‘CONNECTING AND ENGAGING THROUGH

LEARNING’

Our Belief………..“Our Students are worth whatever it takes”.

Our School Opinion Results from 2019 is evidence of a great state system. Our parents

reported:

Maintaining good mental health

It is important at this time that we all maintain good physical and mental health.

Below is a website that provides very good tips on how to do this.

MindSpotMindSpot (opens in a new tab)

This information has been produced in collaboration with those whose assistance is acknowledged and appreciated.

This week all classes started The Resilience Project

Miss Azpiri shared her first lesson with the Year 5 students:

We started our lesson by playing a game called ‘the human knot’ where we had to try and untie ourselves. We had to

communicate and help each other to try and unknot the class. We then watched 2 videos about character strengths. We liked the

videos as they included cool music and pictures for each of the character strengths (some were funny). I also liked how they include

snippets from movies and of athletes like Michael Jordan. We then finished the lesson by identifying our top 5 character strengths.

Identifying my character strengths means I can continue to do the things I am good at whilst also allowing me to work on other

strengths that weren’t in my top 5 list. I am looking forward to learning more about what ‘The Resilience Project’ is about.

Cooper Pool from 5A enjoyed working with Miss Azpiri on their first lesson.

Parade

Parade will be via video link each week during this time when we cannot have large gatherings. It will be uploaded each Monday

morning on our facebook page and website. Don’t forget to view it to keep connected. This week we had 142 likes.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW)

NRW extends from Wednesday 27 May until 3 June. The theme this year is “In this Together”

At the beginning of parades our students do an Acknowledgement of Country. This is what it is all about.

ACKNOWLEDGE COUNTRY: TODAY, EVERY DAY WHY IS ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY IMPORTANT? An Acknowledgement of Country is an opportunity for anyone to show respect for Traditional Owners and the continuing connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Country. This will help create a more united Australia, as we all walk together towards reconciliation. WHO CAN GIVE AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY? Everyone. It can be given by non-Indigenous people and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. WHAT DO I SAY? This suggested wording will help you express your Acknowledgement of Country. “I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the Land on which I stand. I acknowledge the (people) of the (nation) and pay my respects to Elders past and present.” Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people may also wish to acknowledge their own mob/s. Regards

FROM THE DEPUTY’S DESK

This week, we have checked on the Third Party Website permissions for Year 2 to Year 6 students who have returned to school. In, particular we have checked those permissions for the online web based educational sites Typing Tournament and Maths Invaders Online. We have invested $1600 in order to give students in our school access to these two sites for 12 months. If our records indicate that your child currently does not have permission for these two sites, a new permissions form will be sent home this week via the classroom teacher for parents/carers to read, sign and return to the classroom. We are aiming to have all students registered, as they have the opportunity to go to the computer labs on a regular basis with their class and teacher. For example, with Typing Tournament, this service teaches students of all ages about the computer keyboard and the skill of ten finger touch-typing. Students can apply these skills to other devices when using them. Maths Invaders online aims to build the recall of times tables and maths facts fluency. School Photos – Thursday 04 and Friday 05 June (Week 7) School photos are next week on Thursday and Friday. MSP Photography are following a range of protocols and their policies in relation to the current context and as a result, there will be no class group photos. Instead, the class group photos will include individual portraits of each student and teacher/s in the class. The venue for photos has changed to the resource centre meeting room with some new on the day protocols put in place. Today, paper-based information about photos is being distributed to all students who have not received them so far, so that they can take the information home and pass on to parents/carers. Classroom teachers will also be receiving information. The information is about everything that you will need to know, including how to order online and when to return the envelope to school. The online issue that was discovered last week has now been corrected. For sibling photos, a specific envelope can be requested by parents/carers from the school office. By the end of this week, we will release the timetable for classes as to when their school photos, will be taken on Thursday or Friday next week. Have a great week! Trevor Milton Deputy Principal

Prep 2021

PREP VISION SCREENING

Good vision is important for a child’s educational, physical and social development. Vision screen checks for common eye

conditions that may impact your child’s ability to see and therefore impact their learning and development.

A Registered Nurse will be visiting the school on/between Tuesday/Wednesday 9 & 10 June 2020 to conduct vision screening for

children in their prep year. If you wish to have your prep child participate in this free vision screening program, please complete

and sign the consent form that has been sent home with your child and return this to your child’s class teacher by Monday

1/6/2020.

Participation in vision screening is not compulsory. If you do not wish for your child to participate in screening, please complete the

consent form and indicate that you wish to decline screening.

If you have any questions, please contact the Primary School Nurse Health Readiness Program on 1800 687 372.

News from the Music Room………………..

Well it’s been a long time coming but Instrumental lessons have recommenced this week. Mr Temple’s lessons for Brass, Woodwind and Percussion instruments are on Tuesdays. We welcome Mrs Jung to our school as our replacement strings teacher for Mrs Stevenson. Lessons will begin this Friday for Strings students. Don't forget your instruments. There will be no ensemble rehearsals for the rest of term. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we will not be having choir rehearsals on Wednesdays. Hopefully this will be able to recommence in third term. I ask that all students who were in the choir keep practicing their choir songs, in particular “I am Australian” so that when we are finally able to rehearse we can perform that song on parade one day.

Yours in music

Mrs Gough, Mr Temple, Mrs Jung
