Not that she should need any introduction but just in case you’ve been hiding in the closet for the last 18 years – this is the story of an adorable yet feisty Kiwi icon.

Anika Rose Moa is a clever, charismatic and funny as all hell singer songwriter from New Zealand/Aotearoa. She began writing pop songs at the tender age of 13 and is now an established singer, writer and mother of three.

Back in 1999 Anika was spotted by Atlantic Records and became the youngest Kiwi artist to be signed to a major American record company. She was catapulted from Hornby, Christchurch to the bright lights of New York at just 18. With the help of her New Zealand label Warner Music she recorded her debut album Thinking Room with Australian producer Victor Van Vugt (Nick Cave, PJ Harvey) in the big apple. Back in New Zealand the album ricochet to number one and her stellar career began.

Anika was living the dream, but terribly homesick. She knew her heart was Aotearoa’s so she returned to focus on her burgeoning success here.

She has released seven albums thus far and continues to evolve as a writer, artist, entertainer and performer. She is recognised as an accomplished songwriter and now she is modelling jewelery she feels she can be a model, if she wanted to…

In 2013, Anika released her first baby album, Songs For Bubbas, which was an instant hit with the ladies (mamas) and babies, and so began her shiny new career in kids music. She released Songs For Bubbas 2 in 2016 to critical acclaim (kids review, not hers) and is continuing to perform and release kids music all over the country. In her words, “What can I say, I’m a baby whisperer!”

Anika continues to push her buzzy boundaries and started interviewing musicians and actors on the NZ Herald website in a quirky series called ‘Face to Face’ where her guests get the best questions thrown at them! The best questions! She then went on to do a television talk show for Maori TV called, ‘All Talk With Anika Moa’. It was in the Spinoff’s top ten of the year and was basically a rip off of Ellen and Oprah but with swearing and silliness.

Nominated for three APRA Silver Scroll Awards in 2005 (‘Stolen Hill’), 2008 (‘Dreams In My Head’) and 2010 (‘Running Through The Fire (Storm)’).

She is also available for weddings, karaoke sing offs and free food.

Auckland Arts Festival is a place for ambitious ideas by storytellers, provocateurs and creators.

The Festival reflects our contemporary, cosmopolitan city with its many communities. It challenges artists and audiences to be bold and take a risk. Through the work of artists from Aotearoa and across the world, we aim to unify, uplift, enlighten and inspire the people of Tamaki Makaurau and our many visitors.

Taking place annually in March, 2018 marks the 10th Auckland Arts Festival. This year more than 200,000 people are expected to attend the Festival, which comprises more than 50 events taking place in all corners of the Auckland region and many of which are free.

recording with many of New Zealand’s top music stars: Don McGlashan, Dave Dobbyn, Hollie Smith, Fat Freddys Drop, Tina Cross, Jackie Clarke, Susan Lynch, the NZSO, Carl Doy and Nathan Haines, to name a few.
