This instruction book applies to several different dishwasher models. The specific dishwasher models are referred to as follows: Standard = 80.5 cm high dishwashers (integrated) and 84.5 cm high dishwashers (freestanding) XXL = 84.5 cm high dishwashers (integrated).

Display

General

The display is used to select or set thefollowing:

– the programme

– the FlexiTimer (Delay start)

– the Settings menu

The display can show the following:

– the current time of day

– the stage the programme is at

– the estimated time left for the pro‐gramme to run

– the energy and water consumption(EcoFeedback)

– any relevant fault messages and in‐formation

To save energy, the dishwasherswitches off after a few minutes if youdo not press any buttons during thistime. To switch the dishwasher back onagain, press the button.

Settings menu

The Settings menu is used to alter thedishwasher's electronics to suit differ‐ent requirements. You access the Set‐tings menu by pressing a specific but‐ton combination (see "Settings menu").

The arrows in the display indicate fur‐ther options. You can use the ar‐row buttons underneath the display, asappropriate, to select these further op‐tions.

The OK button is used to confirm amessage or setting and also to move tothe next menu or another level.

A tick will appear next to the optionwhich is currently selected.

To exit a sub-menu, use the arrowbuttons to select the Back option inthe display and confirm your selectionwith OK.If you do not press any of the buttonsfor several seconds, the display with re‐turn to the previous level. You mayneed to enter your settings again.

This dishwasher complies with current safety requirements. Inap‐propriate use can, however, lead to personal injury and damage toproperty.

To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the dishwasher,please read the installation plan and the operating instructionscarefully before it is installed and used for the first time. They con‐tain important information on its installation, safety, use and main‐tenance.

Keep the installation plan and the operating instructions in a safeplace and pass them on to any future owner.

Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by non-compli‐ance with this information.

Correct application

This dishwasher is intended for use in domestic households andsimilar working and residential environments.

The dishwasher is not intended for outdoor use.

It must only be used as a domestic appliance as specified inthese operating instructions, for cleaning domestic crockery andcutlery. Any other usage is not supported by the manufacturer andcould be dangerous.

The appliance can only be used by people with reduced physical,sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge,if they are supervised whilst using it, or have been shown how to useit in a safe way and recognise and understand the consequences ofincorrect operation.

Safety with children

Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the appli‐ance unless they are constantly supervised.

Children 8 years and older may only use the dishwasher unsuper‐vised if they have been shown how to use it safely and recogniseand understand the consequences of incorrect operation.

Children must not be allowed to clean or maintain the applianceunsupervised.

Please supervise children in the vicinity of the dishwasher and donot let them play with it. There is a danger that children playingmight shut themselves in the dishwasher.

If the automatic door opening mechanism (depending on model)is active keep young children away from the area in which the dooropens. Danger of injury in the unlikely event of a fault with the open‐ing mechanism.

Danger of suffocation. Packaging, e.g. plastic wrappings, must bekept out of the reach of babies and children. Whilst playing, childrencould become entangled in packaging or pull it over their head andsuffocate.

Keep children away from detergents. Dishwasher detergents cancause burning in the mouth, nose and throat if swallowed, or inhibitbreathing. Keep children away from the dishwasher when the door isopen. There could still be detergent residues in the cabinet. Seekmedical attention immediately if your child has swallowed or inhaleddetergent.

Technical safety

Unauthorised installation, maintenance and repairs can causeconsiderable danger for the user. Installation, maintenance and re‐pairs must only be carried out by a Miele authorised technician.

A damaged dishwasher is dangerous. Check it for any recognisa‐ble damage. Never install or attempt to use a damaged appliance.

The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteedwhen correctly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety re‐quirement is met. If in any doubt, please have the electrical installa‐tion tested by a qualified electrician. Miele cannot be held liable for the consequences of an inadequateearthing system (e.g. electric shock).

Reliable and safe operation of this dishwasher can only be assur‐ed if it has been connected to the mains electricity supply.

The dishwasher must only be plugged into the electricity supplyvia a suitable switched socket using a suitable fused plug (it mustnot be hard-wired). The electrical socket must be easily accessibleafter the dishwasher is installed so that it can be disconnected fromthe electricity supply at any time.

There must be no electrical sockets behind the dishwasher. Dan‐ger of overheating and fire risk if the dishwasher were to be pushedup against a plug.

The dishwasher must not be installed under a hob. The high radi‐ant temperatures which are sometimes generated by a hob coulddamage the dishwasher. For the same reason it should not be instal‐led next to open fires or other appliances which give off heat, suchas heaters etc.

To avoid the risk of damage to the dishwasher, make sure that theconnection data on the data plate (fuse rating, voltage and frequen‐cy) match the mains electricity supply before connecting the dish‐washer to the mains. Consult a qualified electrician if in doubt.

Do not connect the dishwasher to the mains supply until it hasbeen fully installed and any adjustment has been made to the doorsprings.

Do not connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply by amulti-socket adapter or an extension lead. These do not guaranteethe required safety of the appliance (fire hazard).

The dishwasher may only be operated if the door opening mecha‐nism is working correctly. Otherwise there could be a risk of dangerwhilst the automatic door opening mechanism (depending on model)is active.To check that the door opening mechanism is working correctly:

– the door springs must be adjusted equally on both sides. Theyare correctly adjusted when the door remains stationary when lefthalf open (approx. 45° opening angle). It is also important that thedoor cannot fall open.

– the door locking pins automatically retract when the door opensat the end of the drying phase.

The appliance must not be used in a non-stationary location (e.g.on a ship).

Do not install the dishwasher in a room where there is a risk offrost. Frozen hoses may burst or split. The reliability of the electroniccontrol unit may be impaired at temperatures below freezing point.

To avoid any damage to the appliance, the dishwasher must onlybe operated when it is connected to a fully vented plumbing system.

The plastic housing of the water connection contains an electricalcomponent. It must not be dipped in water.

There are electrical wires in the water inlet hose. Do not cut thewater inlet hose, even if it is too long.

The integrated Waterproof system offers protection from waterdamage, provided the following conditions are met:

– The dishwasher is correctly installed and plumbed in.

– The dishwasher is properly maintained and parts are replacedwhere it can be seen that this is necessary.

– the stopcock is turned off during longer absences from the home(e.g. whilst on holiday).

The Waterproof system will work even if the appliance is switchedoff. However, the appliance must remain connected to the electricitysupply.

The water pressure (flow pressure at the take-off point) must bebetween 30 and 1000 kPa (0.3 and 10 bar).

If the dishwasher gets damaged, switch it off at the mains imme‐diately and call your Miele Dealer or the Miele Service Department.

While the appliance is under guarantee, repairs should only be un‐dertaken by a Miele authorised service technician. Otherwise theguarantee is invalidated.

Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when genu‐ine original Miele replacement parts are used. Faulty componentsmust only be replaced by Miele spare parts.

During installation, maintenance and repair work, the appliancemust be disconnected from the mains electricity supply (switch it offand withdraw the plug from the socket).

If the connection cable is damaged it must be replaced with aspecial cable of the same type (available from Miele) by a Miele au‐thorised service technician only.

Correct installation

The dishwasher must be installed and connected in compliancewith the installation diagram supplied.

Take care, both before and during installation of the dish‐washer, not to cut yourself on the metal parts. Danger of in‐jury. Wear protective gloves.

The dishwasher must be correctly aligned to ensure problem-freeoperation.

In order to ensure stability, built-under and integrated dishwash‐ers must only be installed under a continuous worktop which is se‐cured to adjacent cabinetry.

If you want to convert your freestanding dishwasher to a built-un‐der ("U") model, you will need to order the appropriate conversionkit. If you remove the existing plinth, you must replace it with a U-model plinth. This is necessary to avoid the risk of injury caused byprotruding metal parts.

The door springs must be adjusted equally on both sides. Theyare correctly adjusted when the door remains stationary when lefthalf open (approx. 45° opening angle). It is also important that thedoor cannot fall open. The appliance may only be used with correctly adjusted doorsprings.

Correct use

Do not use solvents in the dishwasher. Danger of explosion.

Do not inhale or ingest dishwasher detergent. Dishwasher deter‐gents can cause burning in the nose, mouth and throat if swallowed,or inhibit breathing. Seek medical attention immediately if detergenthas been swallowed or inhaled.

You could injure yourself on the open dishwasher door or trip overit. Avoid leaving the door open unnecessarily.

Do not sit or lean on the opened door. This could cause the dish‐washer to tip and be damaged, and you could get injured.

Dishes can be very hot at the end of the programme. Allow themto cool until they are comfortable enough to handle before unload‐ing.

Only use detergent and rinse aid formulated for domestic dish‐washers. Do not use washing-up liquid.

Do not use commercial or industrial detergents as these maycause damage, and there is a risk of a severe explosive chemical re‐action (such as an explosive oxyhydrogen gas reaction).

Do not fill the rinse aid reservoir with powder or liquid detergent.This will cause serious damage to the reservoir.

Inadvertently filling the salt reservoir with powder or liquid dish‐washer detergent will damage the water softener. Make sure youhave picked up the correct packet of dishwasher salt before fillingthe salt reservoir!

Only use special coarse grained dishwasher salt for reactivation.Do not use other salts such as cooking salt, agricultural grade orgritting salt. These may contain insoluble additives which can impairthe functioning of the water softener.

In an appliance with a cutlery basket (depending on model), cut‐lery is cleaned and dried more efficiently if placed in the basket withthe handles downwards. However, to avoid the risk of injury, placeknives and forks etc. with the handles upwards.

Plastic items which cannot withstand being washed in hot water,such as disposable plastic containers or plastic cutlery should notbe cleaned in the dishwasher. The high temperatures in the dish‐washer may cause them to melt or lose shape.

If you use the "FlexiTimer/Delay start" option (depending on mod‐el), make sure that the dispenser is dry before adding detergent.Wipe dry if necessary. Detergent will clog if poured into a damp dis‐penser and may not be thoroughly dispersed.

Please observe the information given in "Technical data" regard‐ing the capacity of the dishwasher.

Accessories

Only use genuine original Miele accessories and spare parts withthis appliance. Using accessories or spare parts from other manu‐facturers will invalidate the guarantee, and Miele cannot accept lia‐bility.

Disposal of your old dishwasher

Make the door lock inoperative so that children cannot acciden‐tally shut themselves in. Make appropriate arrangements for the dis‐posal of the appliance.

Caring for the environment

Disposal of the packing mate‐rialThe packaging is designed to protectthe appliance from damage duringtransportation. The packaging materialsused are selected from materials whichare environmentally friendly for disposaland should be recycled.

The packaging consists of the followingmaterials:

Outer packaging:

– Corrugated cardboard made from upto 100% recyclable material:or: Polyethylene (PE) shrink wrap

– Polypropylene (PP) strapping

Inner packaging:

– Chlorine and fluorine free expandedpolystyrene (EPS)

– Base, lid frame and support battensmade from untreated natural woodfrom renewable forests

– Polyethylene (PE) protective wrap

Recycling the packaging reduces theuse of raw materials in the manufactur‐ing process and also reduces theamount of waste in landfill sites.

Disposing of your old appli‐anceElectrical and electronic appliances of‐ten contain valuable materials. They al‐so contain materials which, if handledor disposed of incorrectly, could be po‐tentially hazardous to human health andto the environment. They are, however,essential for the correct functioning ofyour appliance. Please do not thereforedispose of it with your householdwaste.

Please dispose of it at your local com‐munity waste collection / recycling cen‐tre or contact your dealer for advice.

Ensure that it presents no danger tochildren while being stored for disposal.

To enable sorting by type of plastic forrecycling, all plastic parts of the appli‐ance are labelled with internationalstandard symbols.

Energy saving washingThis dishwasher is exceptionally eco‐nomical in its use of water and electrici‐ty.You can make the most of your appli‐ance by following these tips:

– For most economical dishwashing,make full use of the baskets withoutoverloading the dishwasher.

– Choose the programme to suit thetype of crockery being washed andthe degree of soiling.

– Select the ECO programme (depend‐ing on model) for energy-saving dish‐washing. This programme is the mostefficient in terms of its combined en‐ergy and water consumption atcleaning normally soiled crockery.

– If your dishwasher is connected to ahot water supply select the SolarSaveprogramme for washing a lightly tonormally soiled load. Because thewater is not heated in this pro‐gramme, crockery may still be slightlydamper at the end of this programmethan it would be with other pro‐grammes.

– Follow the detergent manufacturer'srecommendations on detergent dos‐age.

– When using powder or liquid deter‐gent you can use 1/3 less detergent ifbaskets are only half full.

EcoFeedback consumption in‐dicatorThe Consumption function is used forcalling up information about the energyand water consumption of your dish‐washer (see "Settings menu, Consump‐tion").

Three different types of information canbe displayed:

– an estimate of the consumption be‐fore the programme begins

– the actual consumption at the end ofthe programme

– the total consumption of the dish‐washer

1. Consumption estimate:

After a programme has been selected,first the name of the programme and af‐ter a few seconds the estimated energyand water consumption will appear inthe display.

The estimated consumption levels willbe displayed as a bar chart. The morebars ( ) in the display, the more ener‐gy or water will be used.

The values are influenced by the pro‐gramme selected and any programmeoptions selected.

The display will change automatically toshow the time remaining.

The consumption indicator is switchedon as standard. However, you can alsoswitch the indicator off (see "Settingsmenu, Consumption").

2. Actual consumption

At the end of the programme you cancall up the actual amount of energy andwater used by the programme whichhas just been run.

Press OK when the Consumption (OK)message appears in the display.

Switching the dishwasher off at theend of the programme will delete theactual consumption values for theprogramme which has just been run.

3. "Consumption" setting

The Consumption setting gives a total ofthe energy and water which has beenused in all previous dishwasher pro‐grammes (see "Settings menu, Con‐sumption").

Before using for the first time

Opening the doorAt the end of programmes with a dryingphase (see "Programme chart"), thedoor will open automatically a little inorder to help the drying process. This function can be deactivated, if pre‐ferred (see "Settings menu,AutoOpen").

To open the door, reach under thedoor grip and pull.

Open the door completely to re-en‐gage the door closing mechanism.

If the door is opened during operationall functions are automatically interrup‐ted.

Water in the dishwasher may behot. Danger of scalding.Only open the door during operationif absolutely necessary and exerciseextreme caution when doing so.

Keep the area around the doorfree of obstructions.

Closing the door Push the baskets right in.

Then raise the door up, and push un‐til it clicks into position.

Danger of injury.Do not put your hand inside the dooras it is closing.

Safety lockUse the safety lock to prevent childrenopening the dishwasher door.

To lock the door, push the slide un‐derneath the door grip to the right.

To unlock the door, push the slide tothe left.

Basic settings Switch the dishwasher on with the

button.

The welcome screen will appear whenthe dishwasher is switched on for thefirst time.

Language

The display will then change automati‐cally to the screen for setting the lan‐guage.

Use the arrow buttons to selectthe language you want and also thecountry, if appropriate, and confirmyour selection with OK.

See "Display / Settings menu" formore information about the displayand controls.

A tick will appear next to the lan‐guage that has been set.

Time of day

The display will then change to thescreen for setting the time.

The time of day needs to be set beforethe "FlexiTimer" programme option canbe used.You can also show the current time ofday in the display.

Use the arrow buttons to set thehour and confirm with OK.

Then set the minutes and confirmwith OK.

Keeping the arrow buttons press‐ed in, will increase and decrease thetime automatically.

The display will then change to thescreen for setting the clock display.

Select whether or not the time of dayshould show in the display and con‐firm your selection with OK.

If you have selected Display On, con‐firm the message about higher ener‐gy consumption with OK.

Water hardness

The display will change to the screenfor setting the water hardness.

– The dishwasher must be program‐med to the correct water hardnessfor your area.

– Your local water authority will be ableto advise you of the water hardnesslevel in your area.

– Where the water hardness fluctuatese.g. between 1.8 and 2.7 mmol/l (10 -15 °d - German scale) always pro‐gramme the dishwasher to the highervalue (2.7 mmol/l or 15 °d in this ex‐ample).

In the event of a fault, it will help theservice technician if you know the hard‐ness of your local water supply.

Enter the water hardness below:

The dishwasher is programmed at thefactory for a water hardness level of 2.7mmol/l (15 °d - German scale).

Use the arrow buttons to selectthe hardness you want and confirmwith OK.

See "Settings menu, Water hardness"for more information.

The message Set up finished will then ap‐pear in the display.

After confirming this with OK, theprompts Add salt and Add rinse aidmay appear.

Add salt and rinse aid if necessary(see "Before using for the first time -"Dishwasher salt" and "Rinse aid").

Confirm the messages with OK.

The programme selected will appearbriefly in the display and the appropri‐ate indicator light will come on. Then, if applicable, the estimated ener‐gy and water consumption for the pro‐gramme selected will appear for a fewseconds.Finally, the display will show the esti‐mated programme duration for the pro‐gramme selected.

These basic settings will be saved inmemory after the dishwasher has beenthrough one complete programme.

Before using the appliance forthe first time, you require:– approx. 1 kg dishwasher salt,

– domestic dishwasher detergent,

– rinse aid formulated for domesticdishwashers.

Every dishwasher is tested at the fac‐tory. There will be residual water in theappliance from this test. It is not an in‐dication that it has been used previ‐ously.

Dishwasher saltIn order to achieve good cleaning re‐sults, the dishwasher needs to operatewith soft water. Hard water results in abuild-up of calcium deposits on crock‐ery and in the dishwasher. Mains water with a hardness level high‐er than 0.7 mmol/l (4 °d - Germanscale) needs to be softened. This takesplace automatically in the integratedwater softener. The water softener inthe dishwasher is suitable for a waterhardness level of up to 12.6 mmol/l (70°d - German scale).

The water softener requires dishwashersalt. Depending on the water hardness level(< 3.8 mmol/l, or 21 °d - German scale),dishwasher salt is not required if combi‐nation tablets are being used (see "Op‐eration, Detergent").

If the water in your area is very softand constantly lower than 0.9 mmol/l(5 °d - German scale) you do nothave to add dishwasher salt. Theprompt to add salt will be switched offautomatically.

Dishwasher detergent will dam‐age the water softener.Do not fill the salt reservoir withpowder or liquid detergent.

Only use special coarse graineddishwasher salt for reactivation,as other salts may contain insolubleadditives which can impair the func‐tioning of the water softener.

Adding salt

When filling the salt reservoir onlyopen the door halfway to ensurethat all the salt gets into the reservoir.

Press the button on the top of thesalt reservoir in the direction of thearrow.

The flap will spring open.

Lift up the funnel.

Do not fill the reservoir with water.

Add salt only until the reservoir is fullor until water runs out of the opening.The salt reservoir holds approx. 1 kgof salt, depending on the brand used.

Do not add any more than 1 kg ofsalt.

As the salt reservoir is filled, displacedwater may overflow.

Clean any excess salt from aroundthe reservoir opening, and then closethe flap.

Immediately after filling the salt reser‐voir, run the Quick wash programmewith the Short programme option se‐lected and without any crockery inthe dishwasher, to remove any tracesof salt from the cabinet.

Add salt reminder

Fill the salt reservoir with dishwashersalt for reactivation when Add saltappears. (If it appears during a pro‐gramme, wait until the end of the pro‐gramme).

Confirm with OK.

The refill reminder will go out.

Risk of corrosion. Immediately after filling the salt res‐ervoir, run the Quick wash pro‐gramme with the Short programmeoption selected and without anycrockery in the dishwasher to re‐move any traces of salt from thecabinet.

After the salt reservoir has been filled,the refill reminder may still appear in thedisplay if the salt concentration has notyet reached the correct level. If this isthe case, confirm again with OK.

The refill reminder will be switched off ifyou have programmed the dishwasherfor a water hardness below 0.9 mmol/l(5°d - German scale).

If you only ever use combination prod‐ucts containing salt and rinse aid inyour dishwasher, you can switch thereminders off if you wish (see "Set‐tings menu - Refill reminders").

If you switch to using detergent thatdoes not contain salt or rinse aid, itis important to remember to add saltand rinse aid and to switch the re‐minders back on.

Rinse aidRinse aid is necessary to ensure waterdoes not cling and leave marks oncrockery during the drying phase andhelps crockery dry faster after it hasbeen washed. Rinse aid is poured into the storage res‐ervoir and the amount set is dispensedautomatically.

Inadvertently filling the rinse aidreservoir with washing-up liquid orpowder or liquid detergent will dam‐age the reservoir. Only pour rinse aidformulated for domestic dishwashersinto the reservoir.

Alternatively, it is possible to use

– Household vinegar with a max. 5%acid content

or

– Liquid citric acid up to 10% acidcontent

The resulting rinsing and drying qualitywill not, however, be as good as whenrinse aid is used.

Do not use vinegar with a higheracid content (e.g. vinegar essence25% acid).This would damage the dishwasher.

If you only ever use combinationproducts containing rinse aid in yourdishwasher, you do not need to addrinse aid.

Adding rinse aid

Press the button on the lid of therinse aid reservoir in the direction ofthe arrow until the flap springs open.

Add rinse aid only until it is visible inthe opening.

The rinse aid reservoir holds ap‐prox. 110 ml.

Close the flap firmly so that it clicksinto place. Otherwise water can enterthe rinse aid reservoir during a pro‐gramme.

Wipe up any spilled rinse aid. Thisprevents over-foaming occurring dur‐ing the next programme.

You can adjust the rinse aid dosagefor best results (see "Settings menu,Rinse aid").

Add rinse aid reminder

When the Add rinse aid message ap‐pears, the reservoir contains sufficientrinse aid for 2 - 3 programmes only.

Add rinse aid in plenty of time.

Confirm with OK.

The refill reminder will go out.

NotesRemove coarse food residues fromcrockery.

There is no need to rinse items underrunning water.

Do not wash items soiled withash, sand, wax, lubricating grease orpaint in the dishwasher. These willdamage to the dishwasher.

Crockery can be loaded anywhere inthe baskets, but the following notesshould be observed:

– Do not place crockery and cutlery in‐side other pieces where they may beconcealed.

– Load the crockery so that water canaccess all surfaces. This ensures thatthey get properly cleaned.

– Make sure that all items are securelypositioned.

– Hollow items such as cups, glasses,pans, etc. must be inverted in thebasket.

– Tall, narrow, hollow items, e.g.,champagne glasses, should beplaced in the centre of the basket toensure better water coverage.

– Wide based items should be placedat an angle so that water can run offthem freely.

– The spray arms must not be blockedby items which are too tall or hangthrough the baskets. If in doubt, testfor free movement by manually rotat‐ing the spray arms.

– Make sure that small items cannotfall through the holders in the bas‐kets.Small items, e.g. lids, should there‐fore be placed in the cutlery tray orcutlery basket (depending on model).

Some foodstuffs may contain naturaldyes, e.g. carrots, tomatoes orketchup. Plastic items in the dish‐washer may discolour if large quanti‐ties of these foodstuffs find their wayinto the dishwasher on the crockery.The stability of plastic items is notaffected by this discolouration.Cleaning silver cutlery in the dish‐washer may also cause plastic itemsto discolour.

Items not suitable for dishwashers:

– Wooden cutlery and crockery oritems with wooden parts: these maydiscolour and fade. The glue used inthese items is not dishwasher-proofand wooden handles may comeloose after being washed in a dish‐washer.

– Craft items, antiques, valuable vasesand decorative glassware: suchitems are not suitable for dishwash‐ers.

– Plastic items which are not heat re‐sistant: the high temperatures in thedishwasher may cause them to meltor lose shape.

– Copper, brass, tin and aluminiumitems: these may discolour or be‐come matt.

– Colours painted over a glaze: thesemay fade after a number of washes.

– Delicate glassware and glasswarecontaining lead crystal: clouding mayoccur over time.

Please note

Silverware previously cleaned with asilver polish may still be damp or spot‐ted at the end of a programme, wherewater has not run off smoothly. It mayneed to be rubbed dry with a soft cloth.

Silver which has been in contact withfoods containing sulphur can discolour.These include egg yolk, onions, mayon‐naise, mustard, pulses, fish, fish brineand marinades.

Aluminium components (e.g.cooker hood grease filters) must notbe cleaned with caustic alkalinecommercial or industrial cleaningagents.These may damage the material, orin extreme cases, there is a risk of asevere explosive chemical reaction(such as an explosive oxyhydrogengas reaction).

Tip: When purchasing new crockeryand cutlery, make sure they are dish‐washer-proof.

Glass care

– Clouding may occur on glasses afterfrequent washing. If delicate glass‐ware is washed in the dishwasher en‐sure that only very low temperaturesare used (see programme chart), or aspecial glass-care programme isused (depending on model). This willreduce the risk of clouding.

– Purchase glassware which is dish‐washer safe (e.g. Riedel glassware).

– Use detergents with glass protectiveadditives (e.g. Miele CareCollectiontabs).

Upper basket

See "Loading the dishwasher / Load‐ing examples" for examples of how toload crockery and cutlery.

For safety reasons, do not oper‐ate the dishwasher without the upperand lower baskets in place (exceptwhen running the Tall items pro‐gramme, if available).

Use the upper basket for small, light‐weight and delicate items such ascups, saucers, glasses, dessertbowls, etc. Shallow pans or casserole dishes canalso be placed in the upper basket.

Long items such as soup ladles, mix‐ing spoons and long knives shouldbe placed lying down across the frontof the upper basket.

Cup rack

Raise the rack upwards to makeroom for tall items.

Glasses can be arranged along the cuprack for support during the programme.

Lower the cup rack and lean theglasses against it.

Hinged spikes

The rows of spikes can be lowered tomake more room for larger items suchas casserole dishes.

Adjusting the upper basket

In order to gain more space for tallerpieces of crockery in the lower or upperbasket, the upper basket can be adjus‐ted on three levels with 2 cm betweeneach level.

The upper basket can also be set at anangle with one side high and the otherside low. This can be useful to help pre‐vent water being left in deep dishes etc.Ensure, however, that the basket canbe inserted smoothly into the cabinet. Itis better to adjust the basket beforeloading it.

Pull out the upper basket.

To raise the upper basket:

Lift the basket up until it clicks intoplace.

To lower the upper basket:

Pull upwards on the levers at eitherside of the upper basket.

Adjust the basket to the desiredheight and then push the levers se‐curely back down into position.

Depending on the setting of the upperbasket, the following plate dimensionscan be accommodated.

3D cutlery tray (depending on model)


Arrange the cutlery in the tray asshown.

To make unloading much easier, cutleryshould be grouped in zones, one forknives, one for forks, one for spoons,etc.

Spoon heads should be placed in con‐tact with at least one of the serrated re‐tainers on the base of the cutlery tray toensure that water runs off them freely.

The upper spray arm must not beblocked by items which are too big(e.g. cake slices).

The side sections of the tray can bemoved into the middle to accommodatetall items of crockery in the upper bas‐ket.

If spoon handles do not fit between theholders, then lay them the other wayround.

You can use the yellow slide to adjustthe height of the middle section of thecutlery tray to make more room forlarge items of cutlery, such as servingspoons and ladles.

The cutlery basket can be placed any‐where on the front rows of spikes in thelower basket.

To avoid the risk of injury, knives andforks should be placed with the han‐dles upwards in the basket. However,cutlery placed handle down in thebasket will come out cleaner and dri‐er.

Place small items of cutlery in the in‐dividual slots on three sides of thecutlery basket.

Cutlery insert for the cutlery basket

Use the insert supplied for heavilysoiled items of cutlery. The insert sepa‐rates the items so that they can bemore easily accessed by water.

Only use detergents formulatedfor domestic dishwashers. Do notuse washing-up liquid.

Active ingredients

Modern detergents contain various ac‐tive ingredients, the most important ofwhich are:

– Complexing agents to prevent calcifi‐cation.

– Alkalis to aid removal of dried on soil‐ing.

– Enzymes to break down starch andloosen protein.

– Oxygen based bleaching agents toremove coloured stains (e.g. tea, cof‐fee, tomato sauce).

Most dishwasher detergents are mildlyalkaline and contain enzymes and oxy‐gen based bleaching agents.

Types of detergent:

– Powder and liquid gel detergents.These detergents allow you to adjustthe amount dispensed according tothe amount of load and level of soil‐ing.

– Tab detergents. These are suitablefor most levels of soiling.

You can also buy combination products(see "Programme options, Detergent‐Agent", if applicable). In addition to detergent, these productscontain rinse aid and salt substitutes.They are available as "3 in 1" or whenthey also contain other componentssuch as glass and stainless steel pro‐tective additives and enhanced clean‐ing power, as "5 in 1", "7 in 1", "All in 1"etc. Refer to the manufacturer's packagingas to whether combination products aresuitable for the water hardness level inyour area. Please note that the cleaning and dry‐ing results of combination detergentscan vary greatly.

For optimum cleaning and drying re‐sults, use Miele dishwasher detergentand add Miele salt and Miele rinse aidseparately. See "Optional accesso‐ries".

Detergent dosage

Follow the dosage recommended bythe manufacturer on the packaging.

Unless directed otherwise, use onedetergent tab or add 20 to 30 ml de‐tergent to compartment II, dependingon the level of soiling. With veryheavy soiling you can also add asmall amount of detergent to com‐partment l.

Tabs may not dissolve completelywhen the Quick wash programme (ifavailable) is used.

Failure to dispense the recommen‐ded amount of detergent may impaircleaning results.

Dishwasher detergents cancause burning in the nose, mouthand throat if swallowed, or inhibitbreathing.Avoid inhalation of powder deter‐gents and do not ingest dishwasherdetergent. Seek medical attentionimmediately if detergent has beenswallowed or inhaled.Keep detergent out of the reach ofchildren at all times. Keep childrenaway from the dishwasher when thedoor is open. There could still be de‐tergent residues in the cabinet. Onlyadd detergent just before starting theprogramme and close the door, acti‐vating the safety lock (if your dish‐washer is fitted with one).

Adding detergent

Press the opening catch on the de‐tergent dispenser. The flap will springopen.

The flap is always open at the end of aprogramme.

Add the required amount of detergentand close the flap.

Make sure that the detergent packag‐ing is properly closed after use toavoid it getting damp and clumpingtogether.

For information

Compartment I holds max. 10 ml, Compartment II holds max. 50 ml ofdetergent.

There are marks in compartment II toassist with dispensing: 20, 30. Themarks indicate a level of approx. 20 or30 ml when the door is open in a hori‐zontal position.

The durations shown in the Programmechart refer to standard test loads andtemperatures.

Each time a programme is run, theelectronic unit takes the new conditionsinto account, and calculates the pro‐gramme duration required.

Energy managementTo save energy, the dishwasher willswitch off automatically 10 minutes af‐ter the last time a button is pressed or10 minutes after the end of the pro‐gramme.

Press the button to switch thedishwasher back on.

The dishwasher will not switch off auto‐matically if the time of day display hasbeen activated (see "Settings menu,Time of day").

The dishwasher will not switch offwhilst a programme or the FlexiTimeris running or if there is a fault.

At the end of a programmeThe programme has finished when Finished appears in the display and thedoor has opened slightly (if applicable).

If the Consumption programmable func‐tion is switched on, you can now call upthe actual energy and water consump‐tion of the programme which has justfinished (see "Caring for the environ‐ment, EcoFeedback consumption indi‐cator").

The drying fan may continue to run fora few minutes at the end of the pro‐gramme.

Open the door completely to re-en‐gage the door closing mechanism.

You can now empty the dishwasher.

If you have deactivated the auto‐matic door opening function (see"Settings menu, AutoOpen"), butwould like to open the door as soonas the programme has finished makesure that you open the door fully.Otherwise steam from the dishwash‐er could damage the edge of theworktop because the fan is no longerrunning.

Switching offAt the end of a programme:

The dishwasher can be switched offat any time using the button.

Switching the dishwasher off during aprogramme stops the programme.

Switching the dishwasher off during therun-up to a delay start time (FlexiTimer)will also stop the process.

If the dishwasher is not going to beused for a longer period of time, e.g.whilst on holiday, the stopcockshould be closed.

Unloading the dishwasherDishes tend to break and chip moreeasily when they are hot. Allow thedishes to cool until they are comforta‐ble enough to handle before unloadingthem.

If you open the door fully after switch‐ing off, the dishes will cool much faster.

First unload the lower basket, then theupper basket and finally the cutlery tray(depending on model). This will prevent water drops from theupper basket and cutlery tray from fall‐ing onto the dishes in the lower basket.

Interrupting a programmeA programme is interrupted as soon asthe door is opened. If the door is closed again, the pro‐gramme will continue from the point itwas at before the door was opened.

Water in the dishwasher may behot. Danger of scalding.Only open the door if absolutely nec‐essary and exercise extreme cautionwhen doing so. Before closing thedoor again, leave it ajar for approx.20 seconds. This will enable the tem‐perature in the wash cabinet to set‐tle. Then raise the door up and pushuntil the catch engages.

Changing a programme

If the detergent dispenser flap hasalready opened, do not change theprogramme.

If a programme has already started andyou wish to change it, proceed as fol‐lows:

Switch the dishwasher off with the button.

Switch the dishwasher on again withthe button.

Select the programme you want, andthen start it.

Programme options

OptionsYou can select and deselect the optionsusing the appropriate buttons and thedisplay.

Switch the dishwasher on with the button.

The Start indicator light will flash.

Select a programme.

Press the button for the option youwant.

The indicator light will come for the rel‐evant button will come on if the optionis available for the programme selected.

If the option is not compatible with theprogramme selected, a message to thiseffect will appear in the display.

In this instance, confirm the messagewith OK.

Short

The Short option reduces the durationof programmes in which this option isavailable by up to 30%.

When used in combination with the"Quick wash" programme, the Shortoption results in a wash programmewithout drying or automatic opening ofthe door (if available).

Energy save

The Energy save option reduces the en‐ergy consumption of programmes inwhich this option is available by up to20%.

In order to achieve optimum cleaningresults the programme duration is ex‐tended with this option.

FlexiTimer with EcoStartThe FlexiTimer gives you three waysof starting the programme by means ofdelaying the start. You can set the starttime or the finish time of a programme.You also have the option of taking ad‐vantage of time variable economy ratesof electricity using the EcoStart function.

When using the FlexiTimer, makesure that the detergent compartmentis dry before adding detergent. Wipedry with a cloth if necessary. If thecompartment is wet, powder deter‐gent can become lumpy and stick tothe dispenser, with the result that itis not fully dispensed.Do not use liquid detergent as it canrun into the dishwasher before it isrequired.

To prevent children coming intocontact with dishwasher detergent:Do not fill the detergent dispenseruntil just before starting the pro‐gramme, i.e. before you activate theFlexiTimer with OK. Also activate thedoor safety lock.

Switch on the dishwasher with the button.

The Start indicator light will flash.

Select the programme you want.

Press the button.

You can use the arrow buttons toselect the Start at, Finish at, or EcoStartfunction or Back .

Confirm selection of the function youwant with OK.

The current time of day will appear andthe hour number block will be highligh‐ted.

You can now enter the time you wantusing the arrow buttons and con‐firm with OK.

If, while you are setting the time, you donot press any buttons for several sec‐onds, the display will revert to the previ‐ous menu. You will then have to enteryour settings again.

If the time of day (clock) display hasbeen switched off (see "Settingsmenu, Time of day") the display willgo out after a few minutes and onlythe Start indicator light will flash slow‐ly.

Press any button to switch the displayback on again for a few minutes.

The EcoStart function allows you to takeadvantage of time variable economyrates of electricity. Before you can usethis option you must set up to threeelectricity tariff time zones (see "Set‐tings menu, EcoStart"). You then set the latest time at which theprogramme selected should end. The dishwasher will start automaticallyin the cheapest tariff zone within thetime set.




The estimated start time of the pro‐gramme selected will appear in the dis‐play.The and Start indicators will light up.

The programme selected will start auto‐matically in the cheapest time zone andwill finish at the latest at the finish timeset. The time remaining will appear in thedisplay, the indicator will go out andthe indicator light for the programmeselected will light up.

Changing or deleting set times

You can change the set times or theprogramme before the start time in thedisplay is reached.

Press the button.

Use the arrow buttons to selectthe setting you want to change andconfirm with OK.

After confirming the Change functionyou can change the set time.

After confirming the Delete function, theprogramme duration will appear in thedisplay and the programme will start. The indicator light will go out and theStart indicator will light up.

DetergentAgentFor optimum cleaning results, the dish‐washer automatically adjusts the pro‐gramme sequence to the type of deter‐gent being used. Depending on theprogramme, this can mean that the run‐ning time and energy consumption varyslightly.

If you only ever use combination prod‐ucts containing salt and rinse aid inyour dishwasher, you can switch the re‐minders off if you wish (see "Settingsmenu - Refill reminders"). The Deter‐gentAgent function will not be affectedby this.

Programme with a short duration for re‐moving fresh food residues that havenot dried on. This programme is alsosuitable for glasses and plastic itemsthat do not tolerate high temperatures.

Extra quiet

Very quiet programme with a longer du‐ration. Suitable for mixed loads ofcrockery, pots and pans with normal,slightly dried on food residues.

SolarSave

This programme does not heat the wa‐ter. To use it the water intake tempera‐ture must be at least 45 °C / 115 °F(see "Plumbing / Connection to the wa‐ter supply"). This programme is suitablefor mixed loads of crockery and glass‐ware with normal, slightly dried on foodresidues.

Maintenance programme

Check your dishwasher regularly (ap‐prox. every 4 - 6 months). This wayfaults and problems can be avoided.

The external surfaces of thedishwasher are susceptible toscratching.Contact with unsuitable cleaningagents can alter or discolour the ex‐ternal surfaces.

Cleaning the wash cabinetThe wash cabinet is largely self-clean‐ing, provided that the correct amount ofdetergent is always used.

If, however, there are limescale orgrease deposits in the cabinet, thesecan be removed with a special dish‐washer cleaner (see "Optional accesso‐ries"). Follow the instructions on thepackaging.

If you mainly use low temperature pro‐grammes (below 50 °C), there is a riskof bacteria and unpleasant odoursbuilding up in the wash cabinet. To pre‐vent this happening the dishwasher willautomatically increase the temperaturein the final rinse of the selected pro‐gramme after several programmes us‐ing low temperatures have been run.

Clean the filters in the wash cabinetregularly.

Cleaning the door and the doorsealMould could build up on the door sealand the sides of the dishwasher dooras these surfaces are outside the washcabinet and so not accessed andcleaned by the spray arm jets.

Wipe the door seal regularly with adamp cloth to remove food deposits.

Wipe off any food or drink residueswhich may have dripped onto thesides of dishwasher door before clos‐ing it.

Cleaning the door front

Soiling that is left too long mightbecome impossible to remove andcould cause the external surfaces toalter or discolour.Remove any soiling immediately.

Clean the front with a clean spongeand a solution of hot water andwashing-up liquid. After cleaning drywith a soft cloth.A clean, damp microfibre cloth with‐out cleaning agent can also be used.

To avoid damaging the external sur‐faces, do not use:

– cleaning agents containing soda,ammonia, acids or chlorides,

– cleaning agents containing descalingagents,

Checking the filters in thewash cabinetThe filter combination in the base of thewash cabinet retains coarse soil fromthe suds solution, preventing it access‐ing the circulation system and re-enter‐ing the cabinet through the spray arms.

This dishwasher must not beused without all the filters in place.

Collection of coarse soil may cause thefilters to clog. The level of soiling andtime it takes before the filters needcleaning will vary depending on use.

The message Check filters will appear inthe display after every 50 programmecycles (factory default setting).

You can set the interval for this mes‐sage to appear to between 30 and 60programme cycles (see "Settings menu,Check filters").

Check the filter combination.

Clean it, if necessary.

Then confirm the message with OK.

The message will go out.

Cleaning the filters Switch the dishwasher off.

Turn the handle anti-clockwise to re‐lease the filter combination .

Lift the filter combination out of thedishwasher . Remove any coarseparticles and rinse the filter well un‐der running water. Use a nylon brush if necessary.

Make sure that when cleaningthe filters, no coarse soil falls into thecirculation system, causing a block‐age.

Then close the flap so that the catchengages.

Take care when you are fittingthe filter combination that it is se‐cured in position correctly.Otherwise coarse soil could get intothe circulation system and cause ablockage.

Cleaning the spray armsParticles of food can get stuck in thespray arm jets and bearings. The sprayarms should therefore be inspected andcleaned regularly (approx. every 4 - 6months).

Switch the dishwasher off.

Remove the spray arms as follows:

Take out the cutlery tray (if your dish‐washer is fitted with one).

Push the top spray arm upwards toengage the inner ratchet. Then un‐screw the spray arm.

Push the middle spray arm upwards to engage the ratchet. Then un‐screw the spray arm .

Remove the lower basket.

Pull the lower spray arm firmly up‐wards to remove it.

Use a pointed object to push foodparticles into the spray arm jets.

Rinse thoroughly under running wa‐ter.

Replace the spray arms and checkthat they rotate freely.

Most minor faults in the performance of the appliance, some of which may resultfrom incorrect operation, can be put right without contacting the Service Depart‐ment.

The following guide may help you to find the reason for a fault, and to correct it.You should, however, note the following:

Unauthorised or incorrect repairs could cause personal injury or damage tothe appliance.Repair work to electrical appliances must only be carried out by a suitablyqualified and trained person in strict accordance with current local and nationalsafety regulations. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorisedwork.

Technical problems

Open stopcock The stopcock is closed. Open the stopcock fully.

Water intake Before rectifying the problem: Switch the dishwasher off with the button.

The water intake is restricted. Open the stopcock fully and start the programme

again. Clean the water inlet filter (see "Maintenance"). The water pressure at the intake is lower than 30

kPa (0.3 bar).Seek professional advice.

The intake water has not reached the required tem‐perature of 45°C (see "Plumbing, Connection to thewater supply"). Start the programme again. If the fault message appears again, select a differ‐

The indicator lights anddisplay are dark.

The display has switched off automatically to saveenergy. Switch the dishwasher on again with the but‐

ton.

The following fault mes‐sage is appears in thedisplay: Salt reservoir lid

The salt reservoir lid has not been closed properly. Close the salt reservoir lid.

If the salt reservoir lid has opened during a pro‐gramme: Switch the dishwasher off and back on again with

the button. Close the salt reservoir lid. Start the programme again.

Detergent residue is leftin the dispenser at theend of a programme.

The dispenser was still damp when detergent wasadded. Make sure the dispenser is dry before adding de‐

tergent.

The detergent dispens‐er lid cannot be closedproperly.

Clogged detergent residue is blocking the catch. Clean the detergent from the catch.

At the end of a pro‐gramme there is a filmof moisture on the in‐side of the door and theinterior cabinet walls.

This is caused by the drying system and does not in‐dicate a fault. The moisture will dissipate after awhile.

Water remains in thewash cabinet at the endof a programme.


The filter combination in the wash cabinet is clogged. Clean the filter combination (see "Cleaning and

care, Cleaning the filters").

The drain pump or non-return valve may be blocked. Clean the drain pump or the non-return valve (see

"Maintenance").

The drain hose is kinked. Remove any kink from the drain hose.

Noises


Knocking noise in thewash cabinet.

A spray arm is knocking against an item in a basket. Interrupt the programme, and rearrange the items

which are obstructing the spray arm.

Rattling noise in thewash cabinet.

Items of crockery are insecure in the wash cabinet. Interrupt the programme, and rearrange the items

of crockery.

A foreign object (e.g. a cherry stone) has becomelodged in the drain pump. Remove the foreign object from the drain pump

(see "Maintenance, Cleaning the drain pump andnon-return valve").

Knocking noise in thewater pipes.

This may be caused by the on-site installation or thecross-section of the piping. This has no influence on dishwasher function. If in

doubt, contact a suitably qualified plumber.

Unsatisfactory washing result


The dishes are notclean.

The dishes were not loaded correctly. See notes in "Loading the dishwasher".

The programme was not powerful enough. Select a more powerful programme (see "Pro‐

gramme chart").

There is some stubborn soiling although most of thecrockery is only lightly soiled (e.g. with tea stains). Use the Sensor wash programme option (see "Set‐

tings menu, Sensor wash").

Not enough detergent was dispensed. Use more detergent, or change your detergent.

Items are blocking the path of the spray arms. Rearrange the items so that the spray arms can

rotate freely.

The filter combination in the base of the wash cabinetis not clean or is not correctly fitted. This may cause the spray arm jets to get blocked. Clean and/or fit the filter combination correctly. Clean the spray arm jets, if necessary (see "Clean‐

ing and care, Cleaning the spray arms").

The non-return valve is open and blocked. Dirty waterhas flowed back into the wash cabinet. Clean the drain pump and the non-return valve

(see "Maintenance, Cleaning the drain pump andnon-return valve").

Smearing appears onglassware and cutlery.There is a bluish sheenon the surface of glass‐ware; film can be wipedoff.

The rinse aid dosage is set too high. Reduce the dosage (see "Settings menu, Rinse

aid").

Crockery is not dry orcutlery and glasses areflecked.

The rinse aid dosage is set too low or the rinse aidreservoir is empty. Replenish the reservoir, increase the dosage or

change the brand of rinse aid (see "Before usingfor the first time, Rinse aid").

Crockery was taken out of the cabinet too soon. Leave it in for longer (see "Operation").

Combination products have been used which haveimpaired drying performance. Change your detergent, or replenish the rinse aid

(see "Before using for the first time, Rinse aid").

Glassware has a brownor blue tinge, and filmcannot be wiped off.

This may be caused by the detergent. Change your detergent.

Glassware is dull anddiscoloured; film cannotbe wiped off.

The glassware is not dishwasher-proof. The surfacesare affected. There is no remedy.

Purchase glassware which is dishwasher-proof.

Tea or lipstick stainshave not been com‐pletely removed.

The wash temperature of the selected programmewas too low. Select a programme with a higher wash tempera‐

ture.

The bleaching effect of the detergent used is too low. Change your detergent.

Plastic items are discol‐oured.

Natural dyes e.g. from carrots, tomatoes or ketchupmay be the cause. The amount of detergent used orits bleaching effect was not sufficient to deal withnatural dyes. Use more detergent (see "Operation, Detergent").

Discolouration is irreversible.

White residue is visibleon crockery and cut‐lery, clouding occurs onglassware; film can bewiped off.

The rinse aid dosage is set too low. Increase the dosage (see "Settings menu, Rinse

aid").

There is no salt in the salt reservoir. Fill the salt reservoir (see "Before using for the first

time, Dishwasher salt").

An unsuitable combination product has been used. Change your detergent. Use a standard liquid,

tablet or powder detergent, and fill the salt andrinse aid reservoirs in the dishwasher.

The water softener is programmed to too low a waterhardness level. Programme the water softener to a higher water

hardness level (see "Settings menu, Water hard‐ness").

There are rust stains oncutlery.

The affected items are not corrosion resistant. There is no remedy.

Purchase cutlery which is dishwasher-proof.

A programme was not run after dishwasher salt wasadded. Traces of salt have got into the wash cycle. Always run the Quick wash programme with the

Short programme option selected and without anycrockery in the dishwasher after adding dishwash‐er salt.

Maintenance

Cleaning the water inlet filterA filter is incorporated in the screw con‐nection of the valve on the water inlethose. The filter must be cleaned whendirty, otherwise insufficient water flowsinto the wash cabinet.

The plastic housing of the waterconnection contains an electricalcomponent.The housing must not be dipped inwater.

Recommendation

If the mains water contains a largenumber of insoluble substances, werecommend fitting a large-area filter inthe connection between the stopcockand the water inlet hose threaded un‐ion. This filter is available from Miele.

Cleaning the filter:

Disconnect the dishwasher from themains supply. Switch off at the mains socket andwithdraw the plug.

Close the stopcock.

Unscrew the inlet hose.

Carefully remove the seal.

Withdraw the filter using pointed pli‐ers and rinse clean under runningwater.

Replace the filter and seal, makingsure they are sitting correctly.

Reconnect the inlet hose to the stop‐cock, making sure it goes on correct‐ly and is not cross-threaded.

Open the stopcock.

If water leaks out, the inlet hose maynot be connected securely or it mayhave been screwed on at an angle.

Unscrew and reconnect the water in‐let valve correctly.

Cleaning the drain pump andnon-return valveIf the water has not been pumped awayat the end of a programme the drainpump or the non-return valve might beblocked. They are, however, easy toclean.

Disconnect the dishwasher from themains supply. Switch off at the mainssocket and withdraw the plug.

Take the filter combination out of thewash cabinet (see "Cleaning andcare", "Cleaning the filters").

Scoop the water out of the cabinetusing a suitable container or utensil.

Press the catch for the non-returnvalve inwards .

Lift out the non-return valve andrinse well under running water.

Remove all foreign objects from thenon-return valve.

The drain pump is situated under thenon-return valve (see arrow).

Remove all foreign objects from thedrain pump carefully (watch out forglass splinters which are particularlydifficult to detect). Turn the drainpump impeller by hand to check thatthere are no more obstructions. Youwill feel a little resistance when youturn the impeller.

Carefully replace the non-returnvalve.

Ensure that the catch engagescorrectly.

Be very careful not to damagesensitive components when cleaningthe drain pump and the non-returnvalve.

Connection to the water sup‐ply

Water in the dishwasher mustnot be used as drinking water.

– The dishwasher may be connected toa cold or hot water supply, max.60 °C. We would only recommend connec‐tion to a hot water supply if it is eco‐nomical, e.g. a solar powered supply.When connected to a hot water sup‐ply all programme stages whichwould otherwise be carried out withcold water will be carried out with hotwater.

– The SolarSave programme (if availa‐ble) requires a hot water supply ofbetween 45 °C (minimum) and 60 °C(maximum). The higher the water intake tempera‐ture, the better the cleaning and dry‐ing results.

After connecting the dishwasher tothe water supply, check that allplumbing connections are watertight.

To avoid any damage to the ap‐pliance, the dishwasher must only beoperated when it is connected to afully vented plumbing system.

The inlet hose must not beshortened or damaged in any way asit contains electrical components(see illustration).

Drainage– The appliance drainage system is fit‐

ted with a non-return valve, whichprevents dirty water from flowingback into the dishwasher via thedrain hose.

– The dishwasher is supplied with ap‐prox. 1.5 m of flexible drain hose withan internal diameter of 22 mm.

– The drain hose can be extended us‐ing a connection piece to attach afurther length of hose. The drainagelength must not be longer than 4 m,and the delivery head must not ex‐ceed 1 m.

– If the hose is to be directly fitted tothe drainage outlet on site, use thehose clip supplied (see installationplan).

– The hose can be directed to the leftor the right of the appliance.

– The on-site connector for the drainhose can be adapted to differentwidths of hose. If the connector pro‐trudes too far into the drain hose, itwill need to be shortened. Otherwisethe drain hose may become blocked.

– The drain hose must not be short‐ened.

Make sure that there are nokinks in the hose, and that it is notsquashed or stretched.

After connecting the dishwasher tothe drainage system, check that allplumbing connections are watertight.

Venting the drainage system

If the on-site drain connection is situ‐ated lower than the guide path for thebottom basket rollers in the open door,the drainage system must be vented.Otherwise a siphoning effect during aprogramme can cause the appliance toempty itself of water.

To vent it: Open the dishwasher doorfully.

Pull the lower spray arm firmly up‐wards to remove it.

Cut off the top of the vent valve in thewash cabinet.

Settings menu for changingstandard settings

To open the Settings menu Switch the dishwasher off with the

button, if it is switched on.

Press and hold the Start buttonpressed in.

Switch the dishwasher on with the button. Release this button as soonas the background lighting lights upin the display. Keep the Start buttonpressed in for at least a further 4 sec‐onds.

The first option in the Settings menuwill appear in the display.

See "Display / Settings menu" formore information about the displayand controls.

Use the arrow buttons under‐neath the display to select the optionyou want to change and confirm yourselection with OK.

Sub-menu options which have alreadybeen selected will have a tick be‐side them.

To exit a sub-menu, use the ar‐row buttons to select Back andconfirm with OK.

The display will revert to the menuabove.

Language The display can be set to appear in oneof several different languages.

You can change the language in thedisplay via the Language sub-menu.

Select the language you want as wellas the country, if appropriate, andconfirm with OK.

The flag after the word Language acts as a guide if a language whichyou do not understand has alreadybeen set.If this the case, keep selecting the op‐tion which has a flag after it until youreach the Language sub-menu.

Time of dayThe dishwasher is delivered with thetime of day (clock) display deactivated.

To save energy the dishwasher willswitch off automatically a few minutesafter the last time a button is pressed orafter the end of a programme.

Setting the time of day (clock) dis‐play

When the time of day (clock) displayhas been activated, the current time ofday will appear in the display a few mi‐nutes after the last time a button ispressed or after the end of a pro‐gramme.

Select the Display option and confirmwith OK.

Select the setting you want and con‐firm with OK.

If you have selected On, confirm themessage about higher energy con‐sumption with OK.

Setting the clock format

You can select either a 24 hour or 12hour clock.

Select the Clock format option.


Setting the time of day

You can set the current time of day.The current time of day must be set be‐fore you can use the "FlexiTimer" pro‐gramme option.

Select the Set option.

Set the hour with the arrow but‐tons and confirm with OK.Then set the minutes and confirmwith OK.

The time of day has now been saved.

Water hardnessYour dishwasher is fitted with a watersoftener which you need to programmeto the water hardness level in your area.

– The dishwasher must be program‐med to the correct water hardnessfor your area.

– Your local water authority will be ableto advise you of the water hardnesslevel in your area.

– Where the water hardness fluctuatese.g. between 1.8 and 2.7 mmol/l (10 -15 °d - German scale) always pro‐gramme the dishwasher to the highervalue (2.7 mmol/l or 15 °d in this ex‐ample).

Select the water hardness you want,and confirm your selection with OK.

A tick will appear beside the waterhardness which has been set.

Rinse aidYou can adjust the rinse aid dosage forbest results. The rinse aid dosage is set in stagesfrom 0 to 6. It is set to 3 at the factory.

If the "Adjust Sensor wash" programmefunction (depending on model) hasbeen activated, the amount of rinse aiddispensed in the Sensor wash pro‐gramme can be higher than that set.

If spots appear on crockery and glass‐ware:

– Increase the rinse aid dosage.

If clouding or smearing appears oncrockery and glassware:

– Decrease the rinse aid dosage.

Select the setting you want and con‐firm your choice with OK.

Consumption (EcoFeedback)You can programme the dishwasher sothat the energy and water consumptionof the currently selected programmeappears in the display. The estimatedconsumption can be displayed beforethe programme starts and the actualconsumption can be displayed after theprogramme has finished. In this menu you can also call up the to‐tal energy and water used in all previ‐ous dishwasher programmes (see "Car‐ing for the environment, EcoFeedbackconsumption indicator").

Select the (Consumption) Display op‐tion and confirm with OK.


Total consumption

Select the Total consumption optionand confirm with OK.

You can call up the values for Energyand Water with the arrow but‐tons.

You can also reset the values for the to‐tal consumption to 0.

Select the Reset option and confirmwith OK.

Select the Yes option and confirmwith OK.

Confirm the message with OK.

The values are now reset to 0.

EcoStartIn order to run your dishwasher in themost economical way, you can use theEcoStart option to take advantage ofyour electricity supplier's time variabletariffs (see "Programme options, Flexi‐Timer with EcoStart"). With this option selected, your dish‐washer will start automatically at yourelectricity supplier's cheapest tarifftimes.

To use this option you must first set upto three electricity tariff time zones inwhich the dishwasher can start. Youcan allocate different priorities to thesetime zones. The time with the cheapestelectricity tariff will be given Priority 1.

Contact your electricity supplier to findout the times of the cheapest electricitytariffs.

Once the electricity tariff times havebeen set, you can use the EcoStart op‐tion to set the latest finish time requiredfor each programme. The dishwasher will then start automati‐cally in the cheapest electricity tarifftime and the programme will end at thelatest at the finish time set.

Before you can use the EcoStart option,you must set at least one electricity tar‐iff time.

Use the arrow buttons to selectthe electricity tariff time (T1-T3) youwant to set and confirm with OK.

The start of the electricity tariff time se‐lected will appear in the display and thehour number block will be highlighted.

Use the arrow buttons to set thehours and minutes for the start timeand confirm both with OK.

The end of the electricity tariff time se‐lected will appear in the display and thehours number block will be highlighted.

You can change the start, finish or pri‐ority of a electricity tariff time.

Use the arrow buttons to selectthe electricity tariff time (T1-T3) youwant to change and confirm with OK.

The change will be saved.

Deleting the electricity tariff times

You can delete the settings for aelectricity tariff time and in doing sodeactivate the EcoStart option for thistime zone.

Use the arrow buttons to selectthe electricity tariff time (T1 - T3) youwant to delete and confirm with OK.

For example, select Delete T1 andconfirm with OK.

Sensor washYou can adjust the Sensor wash pro‐gramme so that it will remove stubbornsoling in a lightly soiled load.


AutoOpenAt the end of programmes with a dryingphase (except Extra quiet) the door willopen automatically a little in order tohelp the drying process (see "Pro‐gramme chart"). In the ECO programme (depending onmode) the door will open automaticallyduring the drying phase.

This function can be deactivated ifwished.


If you have deactivated the auto‐matic door opening function andwould like to open the door as soonas the programme has finished makesure that you open the door fully.Otherwise steam from the dishwash‐er could damage the edge of theworktop because the fan is no longerrunning.

Refill remindersIf you only ever use combination prod‐ucts containing salt and rinse aid inyour dishwasher, you can switch the re‐minders for salt and rinse aid off if youwish (see "Settings menu - Refill re‐minders"). Switching off the reminderswill not affect the DetergentAgent func‐tion (see "Programme options, Deter‐gentAgent").

Check filtersYou can adjust the interval at which thereminder to check the filters appears. You can set an interval of between 30and 60 programme cycles.

The reminder to check the filters is setat the factory to appear after every 50programme cycles.

Select the interval you want and con‐firm with OK.

SoakYou can use this function to loosendried-on food residues in the pro‐gramme selected.Once activated, this function will becarried out with all programmes untilyou deactivate it.If you are using powder dishwasher de‐tergent, add approx. 5 g to compart‐ment I.

BrightnessThere are seven different display bright‐ness settings.

Select the brightness you want andconfirm this with OK.

MemoryWith the Memory function activated,the dishwasher will save the last pro‐gramme selected. When you switch the dishwasher offand back on again, the last programmeselected will appear in the display in‐stead of the ECO programme.
