Description
The CHALLENGER LITE System consists of a transmitter and the
Challenger terminal and allows operating a computer from a distance
of max. 200m (650ft). In addition, a local operator station can be
connected at the transmitter. Operation is optional local or
remote.
The monitor, keyboard and mouse signals are transferred via
category 5 (or higher) cables. The feature of individual video
tuning compensates different cable qualities and lengths so that
the user has always available an optimum picture. We recommend
CAT7-cable.
In addition to the monitor, keyboard and mouse information, the
system can transfer - as option - also a RS232 interface and - as
option – audio data via the data cable. As additional option we can
integrate the delay function that compensates time delays on the
data cable used.

Installation Earthing the Enclosures:
All earth bonding (grounding) measures must be undertaken before
all connection measures are undertaken. This is required to comply
with all product specifications.
Earthing on the inside of the STF Earth connection to the main
using the MB coupling bolt bonding stud in the enclosure
An earth bonding lead is pre-installed in the enclosure and
connected to the main bonding stud. The other end of this earth
lead is for connection to the M6 x 20 self tapping bolt inside the
STF or EBF stand that locks the MB coupling in place. See drawing
10100251 and the above pictures for details.
The threaded hole for M6 screw on the base of the STF or EBF stand
MUST be used for grounding the terminal enclosure to the local
earth on site. Please note that the earth cable should not exceed a
length of 3 meters.

System operation/setting IVT - Individual Video Tuning
The CHALLENGER xx Lite - system allows adapting videos. This
functionality can be used by the user to compensate different cable
qualities and lengths. Individual execution of this function allows
setting the subjective perception of the individual as a standard
for a good picture.
Adaptation is made via the keyboard of the CHALLENGER xx
Lite.
The system covers the range from 10 - 200m (33 - 560ft); adaptation
can be made in 2m-steps (6,5ft).
The Challenger xx Lite System provides the option to individually
select the used cable type. For video adaptation, select the cable
type, which corresponds to the cable type used in most cases.
Optional you can compensate time delays from the data cable with
the delay function.
When you start up the system for the first time, a menu appears on
the display using which you may select the IVT-modus. If you do not
want to see this menu after every system starts, you may switch it
off by pressing the ESC key while holding the Ctrl key.
[ Strg / Control / Control ]
[ Esc / Esc / Esc ].
Press the Scroll Lock Key while holding the Ctrl key.
[ Strg / Control / Control ]
[ Rollen / Scroll / Arrêt Dêfil ].
On releasing both the keys, the IVT mode is activated , a menu
appears on the display and the scroll lock LED [ Rollen / Scroll
Lock / Arrêt Dêfil ] on the keyboard blinks.

Notes for setting the IVT
The above steps should be understood to be reference values. As the
quality of a video picture depends both on the monitor, the graphic
card and the transfer cable it is possible that you will achieve
the subjectively best picture with the setting for 100m (330ft)
despite a cable length of, for instance, 80m (260ft). To guarantee
the best picture quality we recommend a max. length of data cable
of 150m (500ft). At longer distances you get poor picture
quality.
If you are not satisfied with the picture quality after IVT
settings, you may additionally make some fine adjustment as
follows:
- Press „CTRL + NUM“ and select „SYS INFO“ with the cursor keys. -
Press „CTRL + F10“. - Enter „SERVICE“ and „3223“ for login. -
Select „Video Adjust“. - Adjust the setting „gain“ until you have
best picture quality. - Save the settings with „F1“.
These settings are only valid for the previous IVT-settings. If you
change the IVT- settings, you need to repeat the steps described
above. You will be warned before you try to change the
IVT-settings.
Try out the best settings for your application.
If your monitor remains black, please check whether the set
resolution and refreshing rate of the graphic card is supported by
the Challenger Lite. It is possible that the values are beyond the
supported range.
Resolutions
The following cable lengths and resolutions provide good picture
qualities:
Challenger Lite Length of Data cable Resolution Refreshing

Automatic change-over
The CHALLENGER xx Lite - system allows the optional operation of
the computer from both work stations (local and CHALLENGER xx
Lite).
Both keyboards and mouse/TB are disconnected in the basic state. As
soon as an input is made via the keyboard or mouse/TB the
keyboard/mouse/TB of the other station are blocked.
If no operation is made for a time-out of approx. 1 s, the system
is released again.
The display of the CHALLENGER xx Lite and the connected monitors
show the videos from the PC simultaneously.
Defining the Time Out
Using this setting you may change the time – out period (1 - 90sec)
for the automatic change-over between the local and the remote
console.
The non-active console cannot be accessed until the time passed
after the last access on the active console exceeds the defined
time-out period.
Call Function Menu for setting Timeout:
Press the Num Lock while holding the Control-key.
[ Strg / Control / Control ]
[ Num / Num / Num ].
The Function Menu mode is activated as soon as both keys are
released and you see a menu at the display.
Move the cursor to the entry Config or confirm with
and press
Then the Config-Menu will open.

Select the System Config with cursor up/cursor down and then
confirm with
button.
Move the cursor to the entry Timeout.
By entering a value in the range of 1 to 90 seconds you can define
the delay time.
For saving the settings and closing the menu press F1.
Hold function
The CHALLENGER xx Lite- system allows that either the local or the
remote (CHALLENGER xx Lite) work station to operate the computer
exclusively. Thus it is prevented that the system isolates the
other work station after the pre-set time-out of approx. 1 s.
In order to activate the hold function, Press the Print key while
holding the Ctrl key
[ Strg / Control / Control ]
[ Druck / Print / Impr ècran ]
The activated mode is indicated by the flashing Scroll Lock LED [
Rollen / Scroll Lock / Arrêt Dêfil ] on both keyboards. The station
that activated
the hold function, can thus operate the computer exclusively.
Press the Print key [ Druck / Print / Impr ècran] while holding the
Ctrl key [ Strg / Control / Control ] , the hold function is
deactivated and the Scroll Lock LED [ Rollen / Scroll Lock / Arrêt
Dêfil ] on the keyboard turns on.
Now automatic change-over is active again.
