    Typical example

    Mount the machine and dismount the machine onlyat locations that have steps and/or handholds. Beforeyou mount the machine, clean the steps and thehandholds. Inspect the steps and handholds. Makeall necessary repairs.

    Face the machine whenever you get on the machineand whenever you get off the machine.

    Maintain a three-point contact with the steps and withthe handholds.

    Note: Three-point contact can be two feet and onehand. Three-point contact can also be one foot andtwo hands.

    Do not mount a moving machine. Do not dismount amoving machine. Never jump off the machine. Donot carry tools or supplies when you try to mount themachine or when you try to dismount the machine.Use a hand line to pull equipment onto the platform.Do not use any controls as handholds when youenter the operator compartment or when you exit theoperator compartment.

    Alternate ExitMachines that are equipped with cabs have alternateexits. For additional information, see Operation andMaintenance Manual, Alternate Exit.

    Daily InspectionSMCS Code: 1000; 7000

    NOTICEAccumulated grease and oil on amachine is a fire haz-ard. Remove this debris with steam cleaning or highpressure water, at least every 1000 hours or each timeany significant quantity of oil is spilled on a machine.

    Note: For maximum service life of the machine,make a thorough daily inspection before you operatethe machine. Inspect the machine for leaks. Removeany debris from the engine compartment and theundercarriage. Ensure that all guards, covers, andcaps are secured. Inspect all hoses and belts fordamage. Make the needed repairs before youoperate the machine.

    Perform the following procedures on a daily basis.

    Service IntervalsEngine air filter primary element Cleanthe primary air filter element or replacethe primary air filter element. The air

    filter service indicator indicates when servicing isnecessary.

    Engine air filter secondary element Replace the secondary air filter elementwith every third change of the primary

    air filter element or replace the secondary air filterelement when it is necessary.

    Grease zerk Lubricate the designatedlocations after every ten service hours orat the end of each day.

    Hydraulic oil level check Check thehydraulic oil level at the sight gauge afterevery ten service hours or at the end of

    each day.

    Engine oil level check Check the engineoil level after every ten service hours or atthe end of each day.

    Fuel system water separator Drainthe water separator after every ten servicehours or at the end of each day.

    Coolant level (radiator) Check thecoolant level in the radiator at the sightgauge after every ten service hours or at

    the end of each day.

    Coolant level (reservoir) Check thecoolant level in the coolant reservoir afterevery ten service hours or at the end of

    each day.

    Engine Air Filter Service Indicator Check the indicator after every ten servicehours or at the end of each day.

    Engine oil Change the engine oil afterevery 500 service hours or every threemonths.

    Fuel System Water Separator Element Replace the fuel system water separatorelement after every 500 service hours or

    every three months.

    Engine oil filter Change the engine oilfilter after every 500 service hours or everythree months.

    Hydraulic oil filter Change the hydraulicoil filter after every 500 service hours orevery three months.

    Diesel fuel filter Change the fuel filterafter every 500 service hours or every threemonths.

    Hydraulic oil Change the hydraulic oilafter every 1000 service hours or one timeper year.

    Coolant additive Add the extender tothe extended life coolant after every 3000service hours or every 2 years.

    Cooling system coolant Change theELC (Extended Life Coolant) after every6000 hours or every 4 years.

    Bogie oil level check and Idler oil levelcheck Check the oil level in the Bogiewheel tubes and the Idler wheel tubes after

    every 1000 hours or every year.
