Summer marks the beginning of fun in the sun! With school out for vacation, summer tends to become a boredom-fest for most of our active youth, and parents tend to go crazy trying to nd an activity that will get their kids o the couch! The challenge is trying to nd the perfect activity that will highlight the season as the Best Summer Ever! Parents, have no fear because Fort Knox Morale, Welfare & Recreation is the best place to start planning out the summer!

Turn o the T.V. and head down to the Falls Landing Mini Golf Course located adjacent to the Fort Knox Water Park for a delightful family-oriented activity. Falls Landing is a beautiful 18-hole course surrounded by trickling streams, cascading waterfalls, and realistic rock formations for people of all ages to enjoy. It’s the perfect way to spend the outdoors with family and friends. For more information on Falls Landing Mini Golf, call (502) 624-2435.

June promises to bring some sizzling, hot weather, so be prepared! Hold on to your swimsuits and go

for a splash at the Fort Knox Water Park located on 5539 Chaee Avenue, behind the Devers Middle School & Teen Center. Take a ride down the thrilling tube slide, or wade and play with the little ones at the kiddie pool area. Annual and seasonal passes can be purchased at the Anderson Aquatics Center. The Water Park is open Monday through Sunday and is the perfect choice for a nice cool down. For more information, call (502) 624-1253.

Youth Sports and Fitness is hosting a Flag and Tackle Football Camp this month. The camp is open to boys and girls and limited to the first 70 participants. Flag football is offered to ages 7 through 9 years old, and tackle football is offered to ages 10 through 12 years old at the Cornwell Ball Field, next to Newgarden Inn. This sport is a great way for youth to get active, and participate in an exciting game of football. All youth interested in participating should be registered with the Parent Central Enrollment & Registration Office located at Bldg. 1384, Vine Grove Rd., and must have a sports physical on file. For more information, call (502) 624-6198.

Whether it’s a relaxing game of minigolf with the family, or a wet and wild splash at the Water Park, there’s an exciting program for all to enjoy. So, plan out the summer and kick it off with Fort Knox MWR because there’s guaranteed fun for everyone! For more information on any MWR activities, visit www.knoxmwr.com.

There is one thing you can count on as a military family. One of the many challenges that you will be faced with on your journey is a Permanent Change of Station (PCS). Moving is a necessary and inevitable part of military life, so you’ve received your Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, and after the panic subsides, you know you’ll need to get yourself and your family organized for the relocation process. So what’s your next move? Once you have your PCS orders in hand, make sure to take the following steps:

Depending on your service branch, the name of the

all the moving options available to you and start making preliminary arrangements for your move.

ACS offers relocation assistance programs that provide moving information to you and your family. Relocation also offers individual relocation counseling and newcomers support material. Ask questions, and learn about your new community and what it offers.

If you’re living in government quarters, make sure you also know all the regulations about cleaning your home before you move out.

Making a move will be a drain on your bank account. The

Relocating to a new duty station or town is physically and emotionally exhausting. But with the help of military groups,

to your new home.

Internships come in all shapes and sizes. Some are paid and some are unpaid. Some last for a summer while others continue through the school year. Some internships are local, but others offer employment abroad. Many people think internships are for college students, but opportunities for high school students exist as well. A high school internship can open the doors to the working world, showing you what it’s like to have a boss, attend meetings, and meet deadlines. Internships also introduce you to experienced people who can help guide you toward a career. The HIRED! Apprenticeship Program provides just that! Open for 15- to 18-year-old high school teenagers seeking meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in FMWR and military facilities on Fort Knox.

The HIRED! Program is open to dependents of DOD civilians and military personnel (15 to 18 years old). Besides that, the apprentice needs to be registered with

out) and a proof of a GPA 2.0 or better. The program is a 12-week long apprenticeship program and the participants work 15 hours after school and/or on the weekends within a 7-day period.

The goal of the apprenticeship is to provide teenagers with meaningful career exploration and experience, workforce preparation trainings, and jobs they can actually put on their resume. We don’t want them

to work a “normal” summer hire job, e.g., cleaning, mowing lawns, making coffee, etc. This is a great opportunity for the teens to get an idea about “real” work life! For some college applications and college scholarships they need to have those hours on a resume! The apprentices will have to attend 6 educational workshops during a term which may include skill training involving problem solving, public speaking,

skills, leadership styles, nutrition, college application process, effective communication, and more.

Schedule: June 28 and August 20 registration. Class begins on Oct 4 and will end Dec 25 with a graduation on Jan 2.

For more information about this program please contact the HIRED! Coordinator at (502) 624-3167.
