New York Times bestselling author Steve Berry will visit Barr Memorial Library Wednesday, September 26 at 6:30 PM as part of the ongoing Authors at Your Library series. Berry, the author of 11 bestselling thrillers, including The Columbus Aair, The Jeerson Key and The Paris Vendetta, will speak about his work and autograph books as part of the program.

As part of his visit to Fort Knox, Berry will also visit with wounded warriors at the installation’s Warrior Transition Battalion. He will present a special program for them in gratitude for their service and sacrices. A proud member of the rst USO tour featuring thriller writers, Berry is an avid supporter of Soldiers and Families. Berry visited Iraq and Afghanistan in 2010 with authors Douglas Preston, David Morrell, James Rollins and Andy Harp as part of Operation Thriller.

Known for his thrillers with a historic twist, Berry has 14 million books in print, which have been translated into 40 languages and sold in 51 countries. He has three standalone thrillers, including 2012’s The Colum-bus Aair, which introduced disgraced Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist Tom Sagan, who nds himself caught up in an international game of intrigue that will change everything the world thinks it knows about the discovery of America. Berry’s Cotton Malone series, which began with The Templar Legacy, follows former Justice Department operative turned book-seller Cotton Malone on a series of globetrotting adventures that have involved everything from the Terra Cotta warriors of ancient China to the secrets of the Knights Templar.

Berry is the author of the Cotton Malone series featuring The Jeer-son Key, The Emperor's Tomb, The Paris Vendetta, The Charlemagne Pursuit, The Venetian Betrayal, The Alexandria Link, and The Templar Legacy. His four stand-alone thrillers are The Columbus Aair, The Third Secret, The Romanov Prophecy and The Amber Room. He has published three e-book original short stories: The Admiral's Mark, The Balkan Escape and The Devil's Gold.

The trademark of a Steve Berry thriller nd is that something forgot-ten from the past holds relevance today. Berry’s meticulous research has taken him and his wife, International Thriller Writer Executive Director Elizabeth Berry, all over the world. During their travels, the Berrys realized that many communities do not have the resources available to restore and preserve important cultural touchstones, such as the ones Berry mentions in his books, for future generations. As a result, the Berrys founded History Matters, a foundation designed to help communities ensure that elements of the world’s collective heritage are not lost or fall into ruin.

Among Berry’s awards are the Georgia Writer’s Association Author of the Year in 2005 for The Romanov Prophecy and a 2005 Amelia Island Book Festival Stellar Award. The Charlemagne Pursuit was selected as one of the ve Best Thrillers for 2008 by Library Journal. The Amelia Island Book Festi-val made him their rst Literary Leader in 2010. He received the Royden B. Davis Distinguished Author Award from the University of Scranton in 2011. Berry was named as the American Library Association’s rst spokesperson for National Preservation Week in April of this year.

The Library program begins at 6:30 PM. Copies of Berry’s books will be available at the PX, in advance, at the program and at the Library the evening of the event. For further information, contact Barr Library at (502) 624-1232.

POOCH PLUNGE POOL TIMEThe Fort Knox Water Park is open for the dogs-again! Bring your ca-

nine friends to wash o the summer heat with our third annual "plunge" into the pool. The Pooch Plunge will be on Saturday, September 8 from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM and invites local dogs to go for a dip or just re-lax on the deck! There will be contests, activities, and local pet friendly businesses for you to enjoy.

“This is a great opportunity for the dog lovers in our community to get together,” said Assistant Aquatics Manager Jessica Todd. “Last year’s event had 68 dogs and we had such an overwhelming response to the event, we had to host it again!”

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsor, Armed Forces Bank, the event is free of charge! Several pet organizations and vendors will pro-vide demonstrations on the day of the event. While owners may regis-ter at the door, pre-registration is preferred. The rst 100 dogs to reg-ister and show up, will receive a goody bag! From 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM, The Plunge will be open to dogs up to 30 pounds, after that, it’s for any dog's enjoyment! Register your "best" friend at Anderson Pool prior to the event or, at the Water Park the day of the event. All dogs must have proof of current shots at time of registration, as well as, a signed waiver for participation. Pick up a waiver at the Fort Knox Vet Clinic, or at Ander-son Pool.

COUPONING 101: SURVIVING THE ECONOMIC CRUNCH

“Coupon clipping and organizing are too complicated and time consuming.” How many times have you said this to yourself as you wade through the stack of coupons in the Sunday newspaper? Or perhaps you think, “If I use coupons, I buy things I don’t need or want.” However, coupons are es-sentially free money and with a little time, eort and self-control, you can reap substantial savings by using coupons.

The Hardin County Cooperative Extension Service will present ‘Couponing 101: Surviving the Economic Crunch’ on Wednesday, September 12 at 11 a.m. and Thursday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. at Barr Memorial Library. This workshop will teach pointers for nding coupons, tips for get-ting organized, coupon lingo, and coupon etiquette. “Couponers will learn how to get started with saving a lot of money,” said Patsy Higgason, Barr Memorial Library Children’s Program Coordinator.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with the Coupon Mania Clipping Club which meets every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Barr Memorial Library. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

“When you attend the Coupon Mania, you gain so much information from each other. The experienced ladies give tips on couponing. Many ladies gather while their husbands are deployed not only to save money but also for the camaraderie,” said Higgason. “The coupon ladies have fun talking, laughing and having a good time.”

Couponers bring in expired and non-expired coupons to Barr Memorial Library. According to Higgason, the expired coupons are boxed up and shipped to an OCONUS location where they can be used for six months past their expi-ration date. The non-expired coupons are exchanged at the Coupon Mania sessions. “However, you can come and collect coupons even if you do not bring any,” notes Higgason.

“I have been couponing for three weeks now. The rst time I saved $25, the second time I saved $40 and the third time I got stu for free. It’s like winning the lottery,” states couponer Nelida Frias.

Seasoned couponer, Penique Burroughs-Allen, saves almost $100 a month on her shopping bill. “I save about 20% every week and that includes everything from toiletries, paper products, food, and more.”

For more information on the Coupon Mania Clipping Club, contact Higgason at (502) 624-1232.

Meet the businesses you can trust at the Accredited Business Fall Expo celebrating the Better Business Bureau’s 100 year anniversary. Up to 100 lo-cal BBB accredited businesses will team up with the Fort Knox Military com-munity and represent their products and services at an open-door expo event on Friday, September 21 from 8 AM until 8 PM at Harmon Hall, Bldg. 1720. This free event is open to everyone.

According to its website, the BBB is an unbiased non-prot organiza-tion that sets and upholds high standards for fair and honest business be-havior. Every year, more than 87 million consumers rely on the BBB. The BBB was consulted more than 103 million times in 2011. The BBB has been the leader in advancing marketplace trust for over 100 years.

“This is a great opportunity for Soldiers and their Families, installation personnel and the general public to learn where to turn for businesses you can trust, plus learn what to do if you have been treated unfairly by a busi-ness,” said Cathy Williamson, Branch Manager of the Lincoln Trail Area BBB.

In addition to door prizes, giveaways and exhibitors on site, education-al workshops will be oered throughout the day by BBB professionals. Work-shop topics will include Cyber Crime, Credit Scams, Retiree Scams, ID Theft, Giving Wisely to Charity, and Top Military Scams. Check www.knoxmwr.com for a list of all workshops and scheduled times. For more information, call Williamson at (270) 982-1289.

“We are so excited about this opportunity and hope this will become an annual event for our Military community,” said Williamson.
