eIs a Multi-Level-Marketing Company Right for me?

If so, which one?By James Carter

There are many Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) companies out onthe market that sell everything fromfood to cleaning supplies to beautysupplies to health and wellness, andeverything in-between. While these can be a goodway of making some much-needed-cash, not everyone is suited toevery company, and some peoplemay not have the necessary meansor personality to get involved at all.

Before thinking about whether or notyou should look into selling for aMLM or starting your own, there area few things to consider. Ask yourself the following ques-tions:

WHO would I sell to? Do Ihave a good enough network of con-tacts to start doing this? If not, am Iwilling to go out and build such anetwork? Some good places to lookwould be church groups, your circleof friends, associates who may havesimilar interests as you, and peopleyou meet at the grocery store. WHAT would I sell? Am Iinto health and nutrition? Do I loveusing a specific brand of cookwareor cutlery? Do I like to keep myhouse clean? Am I the type of a per-son who doesn’t leave the housewithout makeup on? Am I a stylishperson and love clothing and jew-elry? There are companies that sellall these things and more! Do I have experience withthe product? Do I absolutely loveit? If not, can I convince others tobuy it? WHERE would I sell? Am Ilooking to “pound the pavement”and go door-to-door hawking mywares? Are there entrepreneurgroups I could “plug into” in order toget leads? Are there art and craftshow, business fairs and exposwhere I can give demonstrationsand samples in order to get leadsand potential sales? If necessary,am I willing to open up my home forthe purposes of demonstration –and if not, am I able to find a suit-able location in order to do so? WHEN would I do this? Am Ilooking for this to be an extrasource of income that I am able todo during nights and weekends, oram I looking for this to replace mycurrent job? How much time am I willingto devote to this? How much moneydo I need back for my efforts? WHY am I wanting to dothis? Is this a means of having agood time with my friends? Is this away of earning money? Am I simplylooking for something to do with mytime?

HOW would I do this?Would I run this as an extra thingthat I do when I have a spare mo-ment’s time or would I run it like anactual business that I would work atregularly and the only reason that Iwould not do it is because I amsick?HOW are complaints dealtwith? Is it on me, the salesperson,to make restitution if something isnot right or does the main companyget involved? Are the products guar-anteed in any way? HOW MUCH will it cost? Al-most all MLM companies have somesort of “startup” kit that you need tobuy in order to start. Many suchcompanies also have a monthly feethat you have to pay in order to re-main on their sales role. In sellingfor (or starting) such a company, amI willing to risk losing money, if sohow much?

In answering all of these questions,it’s vitally important to be brutallyhonest with yourself. If you can’tsatisfactorily answer these ques-tions to yourself, then perhaps aMLM company isn’t right for you orperhaps you need to look into a dif-ferent MLM company. If you can an-swer these questions and are willingto take a risk on the company andproduct, you’ve found yourself awinner.
