LOCAL HISTORY FAIRSOur Sporting Stories; MiningCommunities and the OlympicsFor the special summerexhibition of 2012, theNational Coal MiningMuseum is hoping tointerview people from exmining communities about their sporting interests. The Exhibitioncalled Our Sporting Stories; Mining Communities and the Olympicswill look at, amongst other things, the development of sporting facilities and groups withinmining communities and what has happened to them since the decline of the pits.We are really keen to make contacts with people in former mining communities. GET SET!Olympians and Paralympians 5. UNIVERSITY STUDENTS NCMME 6. STANLEY WHEELERS AND WOBBLERSProposalMembers of the Wheelers and Wobblers group preparea video that demonstrates the playing of a selection ofparalympic sports. The featured sports would befamiliar to the group e.g. boccia. This video wouldform part of our sports exhibition and would run, on aloop system, throughout the duration of the exhibition. 7. Outcomes for the group To help celebrate their 21stanniversary by presenting theirachievements as a sports group to awider community To demonstrate their expertise to awider audience To provide an opportunity toexperience sport in a dif ferentcontext i.e. opportunity to developplanning and presentational skills 8. Outcomes for NCM to encourage and inspire exhibitionvisitors to try the new sports to develop visitors understanding ofhow sport can support health andwell being to provoke an awareness of thesense of challenge andachievement experienced by thosewho play sport at all levels. 9.
