Changes in LegislationNew fire safety rules affecting all non-domestic premises in England & Wales have been in force since October 2006. Fire certificates ceased to have legal status, the responsibility for complying with the Fire Safety Order now resting with the 'responsible person'. In a workplace for example this is the employer and any other person who may have the control of any part of the premises, e.g the occupier or owner.

Roomsaver Design

The sliding door system provides significant benefits to the occupant. With the door sliding into the wall the 'Roomsaver' design combines optimum stability with maximum free passage, ideal for situations which require wider openings or simply where space is limited. The ability to provide single doors up to 1230mm wide makes Orbis Pocket doors particularly useful for wheelchair users or in healthcare applications, allowing the passage of beds without the need for double doors.

Orbis Pocket Doorset Range is a heavy duty sliding door system in which the door slides neatly into the wall cavity. It is suitable for heavy traffic applications in areas such as care homes, schools and hospitals.

Orbis Pocket Doorsets can be supplied in sizes up to and including 1230 x 2700mm as a single leaf and can be installed into wall thicknesses of 100mm, 125mm and 150mm.

Frame Construction

Frames are produced in 1.5mm steel with a highly resilient white powder coated finish as standard.

All frames are supplied with a double recess and reinforcement. The mechanism requires no floor guides and the smooth action of the sliding system includes built-in brush seals and end buffers giving a perfectly smooth and stable action.

Split Head Facility

A split head frame construction allows a ceiling mounted hoist system to pass cleanly through the doorway without interupting the action of the door.

Laidlaw Pocket Doorsets are available in a factory painted finish, faced both sides with a high quality durable laminate or with fully veneered front and back faces with solid lipping all round.

Painted Doors

All fully factory painted doors provide a more durable, higher quality finish than can be achieved on-site. Orbis Pocket Doors are available as standard in white RAL9010 (with matching powder coated frame) and are also available in an extended range of RAL colours depending on quantities.

Laminate Doors

Doors are faced with laminate from the Formica PSM Door Collection Range, plain colours or wood grain effect. All doors are hardwood lipped on all edges

Veneered Doors

Orbis veneered doors are supplied with crown cut wood veneer. The veneers are book matched to provide an attractive and carefully balanced pattern across the width of the door. All doors are hardwood lipped on all edges.

As standard, veneers are available in Ash, Beech, American White Oak and Maple. Other veneers may be provided depending on quantities.

Vision Panels

Vision panels of various sizes can be incorporated into the door leaf as shown below. The vision panel is always central within the door leaf. A shallow glazing bead ensures the door continues to slide smoothly into the frame recess.

As standard, the Orbis Pocket Doorset Range is supplied with our Orbis Range of ironmongery. Orbis ironmongery offers a wide selection of products designed to combine high performance and good looks. In addition to the standard doorset items, we are also able to supply a whole range of fittings from bathroom hooks to door bolts or sliding door pulls which will co-ordinate with the door hardware. Lockcases

Laidlaw Pocket Doorsets are supplied either without a lock or with factory prepared mortice nightlatch or mortice bathroom lock. Each lock has a hook bolt, designed specifically for sliding door applications.

Doorsets supplied with a lock have a stainless steel strike plate installed in the frame (see opposite).

The lock forend is supplied in a satin stainless steel finish.

Levers, Pull Handles and Bathroom Turns

The Orbis Range of ironmongery includes a wide range of lever handles and pull handles which can be specified on the Orbis Pocket Doorset. All lever handles are available with a rose or backplate fixing which incorporate bolt through fixings and a 'Break Through' spindle for a strong and durable assembly.

Face fixed, bolt through or back to back fixed pull handles are also available in a wide range of sizes and centres.

To complement the lever and pull handles we are able to provide a number of bathroom turns and emergency release indicators, including large lever turns designed specifically for less able users.

Hardware Finishes

The Orbis Range of ironmongery is available in satin finished aluminium, satin and polished stainless steel. We also have a wide range of solid nylon and steel cored nylon ironmongery which is available in a range of colours. Within the nylon range is a comprehensive programme of WC and washroom fittings including fittings for Special Needs applications. This provides a perfect opportunity to integrate the door hardware with the other fittings, particularly those used in a hospital environment. Rose mounted return to door lever handle in a satin stainless steel finish is mounted vertically, whereby the handle will retract the hook bolt.

A typical nightlatch application or where there is no locking function, a pair of pull handles is supplied for back to back fixing.
