ADULT CHOIR/ORCHESTRA CHRISTMAS MUSICAL - THANK YOU!

We want to thank our Adult Choir and Orchestra for their hard work and the wonderful presentation of the Christmas Festival, which included the Christmas Musical WERE YOU THERE ON

THAT CHRISTMAS NIGHT on December 13. And on the postlude - “Sleigh Ride” - when Richard Burrell played the sound of the ‘horse’, I almost looked around to see if there was really

one in the sanctuary!

Let’s take the powerful message of this worship time and this musical with us through Christmas, and right into next year! Let’s ever praise HIM for the greatest Gift ever given, and the

greatest story and event that ever happened - the coming of the Messiah, and the fulfillment of God’s salvation for mankind.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Ken’s Korner From Ken… “Merry Christmas”! As I entered FATZ restaurant yesterday a man came out the door and said, “Happy Holiday”! He didn’t even say, “Happy Holidays”! I replied, “Merry Christmas”. His face snarled and he grunted! In this turbulent, upside down world there are so many people that just don’t get it. This “festive time of holidays” was begun because of the birth of Jesus Christ. The lights, the trees, the shopping, the angels, the manger scenes, the days off work, the parties, the cheer..… even Santa Claus ……..ARE ALL BECAUSE OF JESUS! In worship this year we have celebrated the lighting of the Advent Candles with “Advent at the Altar”. The first three candles represent “Hope”, “Love” and “Joy”. We will finish this week with the candle of “Peace” followed by the Christ Candle during the Candlelight Lord’s Supper. May your “Merry Christmas” be filled with hope, love, joy, peace and the fullness of the Christ-child, born one starry night, long ago, in Bethlehem. That baby boy, the Son of God would bring us the way to enjoy hope, love, joy and peace forever. That alone is the greatest gift anyone could ever receive. I pray that you have received that gift through Jesus Christ our Lord!

Winter Mission Trip – Disaster Relief to rebuild Hickory Hill Baptist Church

A number of churches in the Walhalla area are partnering to help a congregation rebuild their educational and fellowship building after the devastating floods that overcame many parts of South Carolina. Our trip is set for January 28-31, 2016. We will have a follow-up weekend the next week for additional work.

Currently we have enlisted “Team Leaders” for electrical, sheet rock, plumbing, tile floor work and additional carpentry work. We still need additional plumbers, painters, helpers, etc. to begin signing up as the dates approach.

I will give an overview of the project on Sunday evening, January 10th, at 6:30 pm in our sanctuary for those who might be interested in helping on this mission trip. By that time we will know the process that we will use and where we need the most help.

Annual Staff Planning! - Pray for your staff as they take a day to pray and plan for

the new year of opportunities. If you have ideas that you wish for the staff to discuss on Monday, January 4th please e-mail them to the staff as soon as possible. The

staff will bring their calendar, ideas and recommendations to the next Church

Council in January and then to the deacons in February. We are looking forward

to a great new year of ministry at CSBC.

Youth Ministries - Brandon Howard, Director of Youth

First off, Merry Christmas everyone! Megan and I want you guys to know that we are deeply grateful to be a part of this church family and want to thank you all for continuing to make us feel welcome. Youth is continuing to go well. We are currently going through the book of James on Wednesday nights. The biggest thing that we are learning is that faith without works is dead. When it comes to following Jesus, sitting on the sidelines is not an option. Jesus has called us all to actively love Him and love others, and this is what I am challenging the students with daily. I want our students and this church to be known for how much we love Jesus and how well we love others. On Sunday nights we are going through the Follow Me study by David Platt. This study focuses on what it truly means to follow Jesus. I feel like a big epidemic in American Christianity is the idea that following Jesus is easy and all we have to do is check certain things off of a checklist and we will receive health, wealth and prosperity. This study is helping us to see that following Jesus is actually a call to lay down our lives. That picking up our cross daily is what real Christianity looks like, and it is hard. The reason that we are doing both of these studies is because I have a deep desire to see our students be genuine followers of Jesus who impact the world with the Gospel. I tell our students all of the time that they all have the potential to change the world. God used twelve average men to change the world, and he can certainly use them. Thank you all for your support. Please pray that God will continue to use these studies to sanctify our students and that He will use them to advance His Gospel in their schools, in this state and to the ends of the earth.

Children’s Ministries

Lauren Beddingfield, Director of Children

Merry Christmas!

If you’re like me, I LOVE all things Christmas! It’s fun being a part of so many traditions with my family! We always watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” on Christmas Eve. My mom always hides a shiny green pickle ornament somewhere in our tree and my sister and I always look for it together just like we did when we were girls. Our house is always full of cookies that my mom and grandma make the week after Thanksgiving. We always look forward to seeing our family and friends all throughout the Christmas season!

I really can’t believe the difference a year makes! This time last year, we were introducing our youth to their new youth pastor, Brandon, and I was preparing to take my place as the Children’s Director. It has been so wonder-ful to be a part of all of our Christmas activities and presentations with all of our children as we have reached our halfway mark of our second year of MARK Club! I hope that it has blessed your heart to see God change the lives of our children! I know my life has been so enriched because I have had the opportunity to love them and teach them about Jesus. It is definitely a different type of ministry! Working with just the children is definitely not what I had been used to and has been a HUGE learning experience for me. I am so thankful for the opportunity that God has provided for me. It brings so much life and laughter into my world.

As we approach Christmas, let us always be mindful of what this time of year is really about. We all know that Jesus came to earth as a baby to grow up to be a man and take on the punishment of sin because He was the only one who could. I hope we never forget that or take it for granted. Jesus also came to earth to show us who God is because at the time many people did not understand. Many people still do not understand. God is love. God sent us Jesus to show us His love for us! God is the creator of laughter and joy and music and fun and all the many wonderful things we cherish this time of year. Ponder on that this Christmas because if you believe in Him, that same God lives inside of YOU! Don’t neglect an opportunity to share His love with others this Christmas! Because of Him, Lauren
